What GIA’s Shift in Lab-Grown Diamond Grading Means for Your Next Design

What GIA’s Shift in Lab-Grown Diamond Grading Means for Your Next Design

The diamond world is a fascinating, ever-evolving landscape, and with its shifts come changes in the very standards used to grade these magnificent stones. Recently, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), the global authority on diamond grading, announced a significant evolution in how they will report on lab-grown diamonds. This is a pivotal shift that we at Morgan & Co, your trusted Sunshine Coast jewellers, are closely monitoring. While we design with both natural and lab-grown diamonds, we believe in keeping our cherished clients fully informed on every aspect of the diamond market.

So, what exactly is the GIA's role, what are these latest changes, and most importantly, what does it mean for your journey to finding the perfect diamond?

First, A Bit of Context: What is the GIA?

The GIA (Gemological Institute of America) stands as the world’s most trusted and respected diamond grading authority. They are the creators of the universally accepted 4Cs system—Cut, Colour, Clarity, and Carat Weight—a meticulous methodology that provides a consistent and objective assessment of a diamond’s quality. For decades, their grading reports have been the undisputed gold standard, offering unparalleled transparency and confidence to consumers worldwide.

For a period, as the lab-grown diamond market matured, the GIA began issuing full 4Cs grading for these stones, mirroring the reports for natural diamonds. This move aimed to provide consistency in a growing segment of the industry. However, the market, and the very nature of lab-grown production, has continued to evolve rapidly, prompting GIA to refine its approach once more.

The Latest Shift: What’s Changing for GIA Lab-Grown Reports (from late 2025)?

Beginning later in 2025 (as announced on June 2, 2025), the GIA is making a significant change to how they report on lab-grown diamonds. They will no longer use the precise colour and clarity nomenclature (like D-Z for colour or FL-I3 for clarity) that they developed for natural diamonds.

Instead, GIA will now use descriptive terms to characterise the quality of laboratory-grown diamonds. These will typically fall into one of two categories: 'premium' or 'standard,' based on a combination of metrics related to their colour, clarity, and finish. If a lab-grown diamond fails to meet GIA's minimum quality standards, it will not receive a designation from them.

Why is the GIA Evolving Its Approach Again?

This latest change by the GIA is a response to the rapid expansion and unique characteristics of the lab-grown diamond market. As Tom Moses, GIA Executive Vice President and Chief Laboratory and Research Officer, noted, "More than 95% of laboratory-grown diamonds entering the market fall into a very narrow range of colour and clarity."

The GIA developed its universally accepted colour and clarity scales in the 1940s to describe the vast and continuous spectrum of characteristics found in natural diamonds. This new descriptive system for lab-grown diamonds aims to:

  • Reflect the Manufactured Product: Acknowledge that lab-grown diamonds, being manufactured, tend to cluster within a much narrower, higher-quality range of colour and clarity.
  • Prevent Consumer Confusion: Clearly differentiate the two products based on their origin, ensuring that consumers understand the inherent differences between a mass-produced item and a rare natural wonder. This helps maintain confidence in both sectors by providing distinct, relevant assessment methods.

It’s crucial to understand that even with this change, the GIA will still clearly label whether a diamond is lab-grown or natural on every report. Furthermore, a laser inscription on the diamond's girdle will continue to unambiguously state its origin.

Beyond GIA: Are the GIA the only diamond certifiers?

No, GIA is certainly not the only diamond certifier globally. There are many other reputable companies that grade diamonds, including the International Gemological Institute (IGI). Both GIA and IGI are highly respected authorities, known for their high standards in grading diamonds.

At Morgan & Co, we meticulously source our diamonds to offer you the best options available. We generally purchase GIA-graded diamonds for our natural stone selections. For our lab-grown diamonds, we source from both GIA and IGI, though we predominantly rely on IGI when sourcing lab-grown diamonds.

Is IGI Changing Their Lab-Grown Grading Approach?

As of now, there has been no public announcement from IGI indicating they will change their grading methodology for lab-grown diamonds in the same way GIA plans to. IGI continues to be a major player in grading lab-growns using the standard 4Cs terminology (Cut, Colour, Clarity, Carat Weight), alongside clear origin disclosure. This means that for the lab-grown diamonds we predominantly source through IGI, our process for selecting and presenting your forever lab-grown diamond will see very little, if any, immediate change.

What Does This Mean for Morgan & Co Clients?

At Morgan & Co, located here in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast, our foundational philosophy revolves around crafting exquisite jewellery that truly embodies your unique story. We believe in empowering our clients with knowledge and offering the best options available to create your perfect piece. To serve your diverse preferences, we proudly source both natural diamonds (cherished for their inherent rarity, proven value retention, and undeniable status as enduring heirlooms) and lab-grown diamonds (celebrated for their accessible brilliance and ethical origins).

Here’s what these evolving GIA changes, and our sourcing strategy, mean for you:

  1. GIA Reports for Lab-Growns: A Shift in Terminology: If you encounter lab-grown options from sources utilising GIA's new reporting system, you will see descriptive terms ('premium'/'standard') rather than precise 4Cs grades. This highlights GIA's intention to differentiate grading terminology based on origin.
  2. Consistent 4Cs with IGI for Lab-Growns: Since we predominantly source IGI certified diamonds for our lab-grown diamonds, you can expect continued consistency. IGI will still provide the detailed 4Cs grading (Cut, Colour, Clarity, Carat Weight) on their lab-grown reports, ensuring clear, consistent information about your chosen lab-grown diamond's qualities.
  3. The Critical Importance of Origin Verification: Regardless of the certifier or the diamond's origin, it remains absolutely vital to verify your diamond's source. Every diamond we source at Morgan & Co comes with a verified grading report. For natural diamonds, this will be a GIA Natural Diamond Grading Report. For lab-grown diamonds, it will predominantly be an IGI report, clearly stating "LABORATORY GROWN." We are always delighted to sit with you in our Buderim studio, walk you through your certificate, explain every detail, and ensure complete transparency about your stone’s unique journey.
  4. Informed Investment & Enduring Value: The GIA’s updated approach, alongside IGI's consistency, further clarifies the fundamental differences between natural and lab-grown diamonds in terms of market dynamics and long-term value retention. While lab-grown diamonds offer incredible brilliance at an accessible price point, natural diamonds retain their inherent rarity, historical significance, and proven value over time. As the diamond market continues to evolve, working with a trusted expert like our team at Morgan & Co becomes even more important. We help you navigate these nuances, understand the long-term implications for both natural and lab-grown options, and ensure your investment perfectly aligns with your values and expectations.

Final Thoughts

The GIA’s updated grading reports reflect the dynamic nature of the diamond market and underscore their commitment to clear, science-based distinctions. At Morgan & Co, we will continue to monitor all changes brought in by leading certifiers like GIA and IGI, constantly educating ourselves on what this looks like for the diamonds we source for our clients.

For us, these evolutions simply reinforce the core values that have always guided our craft: a belief in natural, lasting beauty, integrity in sourcing for both natural and lab-grown options, and creating jewellery that holds deep meaning and enduring value for generations.

So Your Girlfriend Has Been Dropping Hints About an Engagement Ring — What Do You Do?

So Your Girlfriend Has Been Dropping Hints About an Engagement Ring — What Do You Do?

Let's face it, gentlemen. The subtle nudges have likely escalated beyond mere suggestion. A strategically saved Instagram post showcasing a dazzling diamond here. A wistful sigh about her best friend's newly acquired engagement ring there. Perhaps even a "casual" detour past the glittering windows of a jewellery store… Sound familiar? If your partner has entered the not-so-subtle phase of dropping hints about an engagement ring, congratulations! It likely signifies one beautiful thing: she's ready to take that next step with you – and she's hoping you are too.

But before you feel the weight of expectation settle upon your shoulders, reframe this moment. This isn't about pressure; it's an incredible opportunity. Your partner is essentially providing you with a personalised roadmap to creating something truly meaningful, a tangible symbol of your unique connection that resonates deeply with her individual style and desires. The groundwork is being laid, and you now have a valuable head start in crafting a piece she'll cherish for a lifetime.

So, what's the savvy groom-to-be to do when the hints start flying?

1. Become a Master Clue Reader: Her seemingly casual comments and pointed glances are actually invaluable insights waiting to be deciphered. Pay close attention to the nuances of her "hints." Notice the specific shape of diamonds that catch her eye – is it a classic round, a romantic oval, a vintage-inspired marquise, or a modern emerald cut? Observe the metal she gravitates towards in her everyday jewellery – is it the warm glow of yellow gold, the sleek sophistication of white gold, or the timeless elegance of platinum? Does her overall style lean towards the understated beauty of minimalism, the intricate details of vintage designs, or the bold statements of modern aesthetics? These seemingly small details are crucial pieces of the puzzle that will guide you towards a ring style she'll genuinely adore. Furthermore, these observations will provide our expert team at Morgan & Co with the right foundation to offer tailored recommendations when you're ready to discuss the design process.

2. Embrace the "I Don't Know" – It's Perfectly Okay: Feeling overwhelmed by the sheer variety of engagement ring styles is completely normal. You're not expected to be a diamond expert overnight! That's precisely where our expertise comes in. At Morgan & Co, we understand that navigating the world of engagement rings can be daunting. We're here to be your trusted guides, helping you refine the general direction you've gleaned from her hints, asking the right questions to uncover her deeper preferences, and exploring a myriad of possibilities you may not have even considered. You don't need to have every detail perfectly mapped out before you reach out. Taking that initial step – acknowledging the hints and seeking guidance – is all it takes to begin this exciting journey.

3. The Grand Reveal: Surprise or Shared Adventure? The tradition of a completely surprise proposal with a pre-selected ring holds a certain romantic allure. However, more and more couples are opting for a different approach, one that involves shared decision-making. Some of our clients love the idea of meticulously designing the ring solo, pouring their heart and thoughtfulness into a stunning surprise. Others choose to involve their partner in the design process, perhaps proposing with a temporary stone or a simple placeholder setting, and then embarking on the exciting journey of refining the final design together as an engaged couple. There is no definitive "right" or "wrong" way to approach this; the best path is simply the one that feels most authentic and meaningful for the unique dynamic of your relationship.

4. Start with a Conversation, Not a Credit Card: The initial stages of exploring engagement ring options should be an enjoyable and informative experience, free from any pressure to commit immediately. Our private consultations at our Buderim studio are designed with this in mind. Conducted by appointment only, these personalised sessions provide a relaxed and comfortable environment where you can ask all your burning questions, explore the vast array of design possibilities, and gain a clear understanding of timelines, various ring styles, and the associated price ranges. This initial conversation is about gathering information, building confidence, and taking the first step towards creating the perfect ring.

5. Let Your Love Story Be the Blueprint: At Morgan & Co, we firmly believe that your engagement ring should be as unique and special as your relationship. Every ring we craft is a bespoke creation, custom-designed to eloquently reflect your individual story, your shared style, and your personal vision for your future together. Whether you already have a clear picture in mind based on her hints, or you simply know you want to create something she will absolutely adore, our experienced team will guide you through every stage of the design process with complete transparency, exceptional craftsmanship, and genuine care. We'll translate your inspiration into a tangible symbol of your commitment.

The Most Coveted Sparkle: Popular Engagement Ring Styles of the Year

While creating a custom ring allows for boundless individuality, certain styles have captured the hearts of many in recent times. Keeping an eye on these popular trends can offer further insight into what might be catching your girlfriend's eye:

  • The Timeless Oval Cut: With its elegant elongated shape, the oval-cut diamond offers a flattering and sophisticated look. Its brilliance and ability to appear larger than its carat weight make it a consistently popular choice.
  • The Warm Embrace of Yellow Gold: Yellow gold has made a significant resurgence, bringing a classic warmth and vintage charm to engagement rings. Its rich hue beautifully complements various diamond cuts and skin tones.
  • The Romantic Elongated Cushion Cut: This modified cushion cut features softer, elongated corners, offering a vintage-inspired yet contemporary feel. Its exceptional sparkle and romantic shape make it a highly sought-after style.

Understanding these popular styles, alongside the specific hints your girlfriend has been dropping, will provide you with a well-rounded foundation as you begin your engagement ring journey.

In the End—It’s Never Just About the Ring Itself

Ultimately, the engagement ring transcends its material value. It's a tangible representation of your love, your commitment, and the exciting beginning of a lifelong journey together. And that's where we at Morgan & Co truly come in. We're not just crafting jewellery; we're helping you create a meaningful symbol of your unique bond.

Ready to take the next step and translate those subtle hints into a breathtaking reality? Book your private consultation at our Sunshine Coast studio today – and let's embark on the exciting journey of designing an engagement ring that feels absolutely, perfectly right for her.

How Do I Buy a Ring Within My Budget?

How Do I Buy a Ring Within My Budget?

An Interview with Morgan & Co’s Co-Founder, Morgan.

Q: One of the biggest questions we hear from couples is—how do I buy a ring within my budget? Can you walk us through it?

Morgan: Absolutely. First things first — budget is not a dirty word. Whether you’re looking to spend $5,000 or $30,000, what matters most is making smart, informed choices so you’re investing in a piece you’ll love for decades.

At Morgan & Co, we begin by helping clients understand what’s actually impacting price. One of the biggest differentiators? The diamond itself — specifically, whether it’s a natural or lab-grown diamond.

Q: Can you explain the difference when it comes to price?

Morgan: Yes — lab-grown diamonds can be up to 60% less expensive than natural diamonds of the same size and grading. That’s a huge difference. And for some couples, it means they can go bigger or choose a more intricate setting without stretching beyond their comfort zone.

It’s important to note that lab-grown diamonds are chemically and visually identical to natural ones. The only real difference is origin — and perception. Some of our clients love the idea of a natural stone because it feels connected to the Earth and its history. Others prefer lab-grown for value, ethics, or environmental reasons. There’s no wrong choice — it’s about what feels right for you, and of course your price point.

Q: Are there other ways to make the most of your budget?

Morgan: Definitely. It’s all about balancing the elements of the diamond — cut, colour, clarity, and carat. For example, a well-cut diamond with slightly lower clarity or colour can still appear incredibly bright and beautiful, especially when set correctly. We guide clients through that sweet spot where value meets beauty. We will provide a quote for you that is within your budget, but also within our parameters of what we are happy to sell. We will not sell a diamond that we wouldn't wear ourselves, which is why we will source diamonds between G and D (near colourless - colourless) and always eye clean.

Also — consider shape. Rounds are the most expensive shape per carat. If you’re open to an oval, pear, or emerald cut, you can often get more visual impact for your spend.

Another area to consider is metal. You may like to consider opting for 14ct gold rather than 18ct, this is something we can offer if you are on a tight budget. All the metals we use at Morgan & Co are premium quality, so it comes down to personal style and how you want the piece to feel on your hand.

And finally, don’t underestimate the impact of the setting. You might opt for a slightly smaller centre stone and elevate it with a bespoke setting that makes it feel entirely unique. Remember you can always add more sparkle with your wedding bands, so I always like to look at the whole picture and ask our clients to consider their wedding bands at the same time.

Q: What’s your advice for couples who feel overwhelmed or unsure where to start?

Morgan: Start with us. We’ll sit down, listen, and work with you to understand your priorities — not just your budget, but your style and values too. The process is relaxed and transparent. No pushy sales. No overwhelming jargon.

At Morgan & Co, we believe buying a ring should feel exciting and intentional — not stressful. You don’t need to know everything. You just need the right guidance.

The Golden Opportunity: Why Starting Your Bespoke Ring Design Now Can Secure Savings and Your Vision

The Golden Opportunity: Why Starting Your Bespoke Ring Design Now Can Secure Savings and Your Vision

The journey of creating a bespoke engagement ring, a wedding band that perfectly complements your style, or a unique piece of fine jewellery is a deeply personal and exciting one. It's a process that involves imagination, collaboration, and the promise of a cherished heirloom. While the timing of your proposal or special occasion might be top of mind, there's another crucial element to consider: the opportune moment to begin your custom design journey. At Morgan & Co, your dedicated Sunshine Coast jewellers, we believe that starting this creative process sooner rather than later can offer significant advantages, particularly when it comes to the precious metal that forms the very foundation of your envisioned piece – gold.

Every bespoke creation at our Buderim studio is a testament to our commitment to quality and ethical practices. We meticulously source certified materials, hand-select ethically mined or lab-grown diamonds, and employ a refined design process that ensures not only breathtaking beauty but also enduring quality and longevity. However, the final cost of your custom ring, a factor we strive to make transparent and fair, is also influenced by the dynamic global market, and one element in particular – the ever-fluctuating price of gold – warrants careful consideration.

Understanding the Golden Tide: The Impact of Rising Gold Prices

In today's global landscape, the demand for gold continues its upward trajectory, driven by various economic and geopolitical factors. As global markets experience shifts and uncertainties, gold, a traditional safe-haven asset, often sees a corresponding increase in price. For those of you in Buderim and beyond who are contemplating a bespoke engagement ring, wedding band, or a special piece of fine jewellery crafted in gold, this steady climb in gold prices has a direct implication. Delaying the start of your design process could unfortunately lead to higher material costs down the line.

Even seemingly minor fluctuations in the price of gold can accumulate and significantly impact the final quote for your custom piece. This is particularly true for designs that incorporate a substantial amount of gold, such as thicker, more substantial bands, intricate layered settings, or designs featuring significant gold detailing. The weight of the gold required to bring your unique vision to life directly correlates with its market value at the time of creation.

Seizing the Moment: The Advantage of Locking in Today's Gold Price with Morgan & Co

Here at Morgan & Co in Buderim, on Australia's Sunshine Coast, we believe in empowering our clients with transparency and control throughout their bespoke jewellery journey. One of the key advantages of initiating your custom ring design with us today is the valuable opportunity to secure today's gold price. When you take that exciting first step and pay your initial deposit, the quoted price for your piece, including the cost of the gold based on the current market value, is locked in. This crucial step provides you with a significant layer of financial security and peace of mind. Regardless of whether global gold prices continue their upward trend in the weeks or even months that follow as we work together to perfect your design and bring it to fruition, the material cost reflected in your initial quote remains.

This price lock-in offers several tangible benefits. Firstly, it provides certainty in your investment, allowing you to plan your budget with confidence, knowing that unexpected increases in gold prices won't affect the final cost of your cherished piece. Secondly, it fosters transparency in our process, ensuring that you understand the factors influencing the price from the outset. And finally, it instills confidence in your decision to create a bespoke piece, knowing that you've proactively secured a favourable price for a key component of your design.

Crafted with Intention, Designed to Endure: The Morgan & Co Promise

As a dedicated by-appointment fine jewellery studio right here in Buderim, we are passionate about crafting modern heirlooms that transcend fleeting trends. Each ring that leaves our workshop is a unique expression of your personal story, meticulously tailored to your individual style and designed to be cherished and passed down through generations. We believe in creating pieces with intention, using high-quality materials and time-honoured techniques to ensure their enduring beauty and structural integrity. And when you choose to embark on this creative journey at the opportune time, you're not just securing a stunning piece of jewellery; you're also making a smart and informed financial decision by taking advantage of the current gold pricing.

Your Golden Opportunity Awaits: Start Your Bespoke Journey Today

Whether you've recently celebrated a proposal and are eager to design the perfect symbol of your commitment, or you're beginning to dream about a unique wedding band that reflects your shared journey, or perhaps you envision a special piece of fine jewellery to mark a significant milestone, starting the conversation with Morgan & Co today can make a meaningful difference – not just in the creative process of bringing your vision to life, but also in the economic aspect of securing the best possible value for your investment.

Caring For My Engagement Ring: When Should I Take My Engagement Ring Off?

Caring For My Engagement Ring: When Should I Take My Engagement Ring Off?

Your engagement ring is one of the most meaningful pieces you’ll ever wear or own, but it’s also delicate and not built for everything. To keep it safe, clean, and damage-free, here’s when Morgan Co Jewellery recommends you should  absolutely take it off.

 1. Cleaning (Especially with Chemicals)

Bleach, ammonia, and harsh cleaning sprays can dull metals and loosen stones. Always take your ring off before cleaning—and wear gloves if you’re unsure.

 2. Working Out or Lifting Heavy Objects

Whether it’s a home workout, lifting furniture, or even intense gardening, pressure and impact can bend prongs or scratch the band.

 3. Applying Lotions, Perfume or Hair Products

Creams and oils can create a film on your diamond, dulling its sparkle. They can also build up in detailed settings and become difficult to remove.

 4. Showering or Bathing

Shampoo and conditioner can coat your diamond, and wet fingers make rings easier to slip off sometimes without you noticing. It's best to keep your ring dry and safe.

 5. Cooking or Baking

Kneading dough, marinating meat, or using messy oils can trap food particles in your setting. Not only is it unhygienic—it can be tricky to clean out.

 6. Sleeping

It might sound harmless, but tossing and turning can loosen prongs or cause small scratches. Plus, you risk bending a delicate band if you clench your hands in your sleep.

Bonus Tip:

Have a dedicated ring dish or box in a few key spots around your home like your kitchen, bathroom, or bedside table. That way, it always has a safe place to go.

Protect What You Love

At Morgan & Co, we believe jewellery should be lived in but lovingly cared for too. Taking these small steps helps ensure your engagement ring stays as perfect as the day it was placed on your finger.

Need a professional clean or a prong check? We’ve got you covered pop into the studio anytime.

Would you like this turned into a branded care card to include with ring purchases or a mini “how-to” guide for Instagram?

How Often Should I Clean My Ring at Home?

At home:
Once a week is ideal for routine cleaning—especially if you wear your ring daily. A gentle soak with warm water and dish soap will remove lotions, dirt, and natural oils that build up over time.

Professionally:
Every 6–12 months, take your ring to a trusted jeweller (like Morgan & Co!) for a deep clean and prong check. This ensures your stones are secure and your setting stays strong and polished.

Why Regular Cleaning Matters:

  • Keeps your diamond or gemstone sparkling bright

  • Prevents build-up of grime that can hide or damage settings

  • Helps you spot any loose stones or wear and tear early

If your ring is exposed to makeup, hand cream, or cooking oils regularly, you might want to clean it even more frequently—every few days or as needed.

Where Should You Keep Your Engagement Ring at Home?

Safe spots to protect your sparkle when it’s not on your finger

Whether you’re sleeping, showering, cleaning, or cooking, there are times you’ll need to take your ring off—and where you put it matters just as much as when.

Best Places to Keep Your Ring at Home:

1. A Ring Dish or Tray
Keep a small dish or trinket tray in places where you often remove your ring—like the bathroom, kitchen sink, or bedside table.
Pro tip: Choose shallow dishes to avoid knocking your ring out.

2. A Fabric-Lined Jewellery Box
For overnight or longer periods, store your ring in a soft-lined jewellery box with individual compartments to avoid scratches or damage from other pieces.

3. A Secure Drawer or Hidden Spot
If you’re not wearing your ring for a few days (e.g. during travel or housework), place it in a jewellery pouch inside a drawer—somewhere cool, dry, and out of sight.

4. A Home Safe (for High-Value Rings)
If your ring is particularly valuable or sentimental, consider a small home safe or lockbox for added security—especially when you're away.

 Places to Avoid:

  • By the sink or on the edge of the bath

  • On countertops near drains

  • Loose in a handbag or drawer

  • In your pocket (easy to forget or fall out)

Morgan & Co Tip:

Consider keeping multiple ring dishes in the key places you tend to remove your ring—so it always has a safe place to go (and you don’t accidentally misplace it!).

Your work will not allow you to wear your engagement ring to work!

If your workplace prohibits wearing your engagement ring, you have several options to keep it safe and maintain its sentimental value. Here's a breakdown of practical solutions, along with their pros and cons.

Store It Safely at Home

Pros:

Security: Keeping your ring in a secure location, like a fireproof safe or a jewelry box with soft lining, minimises the risk of loss or damage.

Cons:

  • Accessibility: You won't have immediate access to your ring during the day.

  • Sentimental Distance: Some may feel a disconnect by not wearing the ring regularly.

Tips:

  • Use a dedicated jewellery box or a soft pouch to prevent scratches.

  • Consider a small home safe for added security.

 Wear It on a Necklace

Pros:

  • Visibility: Keeps the ring close and visible without wearing it on your finger.

  • Safety: Reduces the risk of damage during manual tasks.

Cons:

  • Workplace Policies: Some workplaces may restrict necklaces for safety reasons.

  • Comfort: May feel uncomfortable or unfamiliar if you're not used to wearing necklaces.

  • The chain will rub inside of the ring over time, creating scratches

Tips:

  • Choose a sturdy chain to prevent breakage.

  • Ensure the necklace length keeps the ring secure and out of the way.

  • Ensure the chain is the same carat grade as your engagement ring.

3. Use a Silicone Ring Substitute

Pros:

  • Durability: Silicone rings are resistant to damage and ideal for hands-on work.

  • Affordability: Inexpensive to replace if lost or damaged.

Cons:

  • Aesthetic Difference: Lacks the visual appeal of your actual engagement ring.

  • Sentimental Value: May not carry the same emotional significance.

Tips:

  • Select a silicone ring in a colour or design that resonates with you.

  • Reserve your actual ring for special occasions or non-work hours.

4. Invest in a Travel or Replica Ring

Pros:

  • Peace of Mind: Reduces anxiety about losing or damaging the original ring.

  • Flexibility: Allows you to wear a similar-looking ring without the associated risks.

Cons:

  • Additional Cost: Requires purchasing a separate ring.

  • Authenticity: May not feel the same as wearing your original ring.

Tips:

  • Consider materials like cubic zirconia or moissanite for the replica.

  • Use the replica during work hours and switch to the original afterward.

5. Store It in a Personal Safe at Work

Pros:

  • Convenience: Allows you to wear the ring to and from work.

  • Security: Keeps the ring protected during work hours.

Cons:

  • Accessibility: Requires a secure storage option at your workplace.

  • Risk: Potential for loss if the safe is not adequately secured.

Tips:

  • Use a compact, lockable jewellery case or safe.

  • Ensure the storage location is discreet and known only to you.

Ring Hero Wristband

The RingHero Wristband is a patented, zippered wristband designed to securely store your engagement or wedding rings, small jewellery, and other valuables during physical activities or situations where wearing rings isn't practical. It's particularly useful at the gym, during runs, while traveling, or even when cooking or cleaning, providing a discreet and stylish solution to keep your rings safe and close.

Key Features

  • Secure Zippered Pocket: Ensures your rings and small valuables are safely stored.

  • Versatile Wear: Can be worn on the wrist, forearm, or even wrapped around items like water bottles.

  • Multiple Sizes and Colors: Available in sizes like Small/Medium, Large, and Petite, and colors such as Jet Black, Slate Gray, Midnight Blue, Stone Blue, Pearl White, Camo Green, and Ultra Violet.

  • Washable and Breathable Fabric: Made from materials that are comfortable and easy to maintain.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the best option depends on your personal preferences, workplace policies, and the nature of your job. Consider factors like safety, convenience, and emotional attachment when deciding how to handle your engagement ring during work hours. If you need recommendations for specific storage solutions or ring alternatives available feel free to ask!

What is the most sought after diamond cut for 2025?

What is the most sought after diamond cut for 2025?

As diamond shape trends come and go in the world of engagement rings on the Sunshine Coast the Oval cut still reigns supreme. Modern yet timeless, elegant yet bold, the oval cut offers the perfect balance between style and symbolism.

If the oval-shaped diamond has captured your heart, here’s why the oval is here to stay in 2025.

Before we discover more about what makes Oval diamonds popular, lets take a look at —

The History of the Oval Engagement Ring :  Where It All Began

It's always interesting to know the background of where and how a stone became popular. The oval diamond cut as we know it was created in 1957 by a master diamond cutter named Lazare Kaplan. Building on the classic round brilliant cut, Kaplan designed the oval shape to retain the sparkle and brilliance of a round diamond—while giving it a longer, more unique silhouette.

His innovation wasn’t just about aesthetics. The oval shape cleverly elongated the diamond’s appearance, making it seem larger than its carat weight. It also had a flattering effect on the finger, something brides and designers quickly fell in love with.

Vintage Roots, Modern Appeal

Although the modern oval cut was perfected in the 20th century, elongated diamond styles date back centuries. Antique versions of oval and marquise shapes were favoured in Georgian and Victorian jewellery, often surrounded by ornate settings and handcrafted metalwork.

In the 1980s and 1990s, oval engagement rings had a quiet presence, often seen in family heirlooms or bespoke commissions. But the real resurgence began in the 2010s and has grown steadily ever since thanks to celebrities, custom jewellery makers, and a generation craving classic elegance with a modern twist.

Why the Oval is Loved Today

Fast forward to 2025, and the oval cut is a top choice for modern couples. Here’s why:

Elegant & Elongating: Its stretched shape flatters the hand and draws the eye.

Bigger Look for Less: Ovals appear larger than round diamonds of the same carat.

Endlessly Versatile: From minimalist solitaires to hidden halos and vintage settings, the oval plays beautifully with many styles.

Uniquely You: Slight variations in length-to-width ratio allow for personalised proportions—making each ring subtly unique.

Iconic Oval Engagement Rings

Some of the world’s most admired engagement rings have featured oval diamonds:

Princess Diana / Kate Middleton’s sapphire is an iconic oval (though it’s a blue sapphire, not a diamond!).

Blake Lively wears a stunning blush-toned oval diamond set in rose gold.

Hailey Bieber’s oval solitaire sparked a major trend in minimalist settings.

These rings helped place the oval cut firmly in the spotlight, loved for its understated drama and effortless sophistication.

Why the Oval Cut Diamond is leading in 2025

1. It Looks Bigger Than It Is

The oval cut has a stretched shape, which gives the illusion of a larger stone compared to a round brilliant of the same carat weight. In 2025, our clients  can get more visual impact without going up in carat size or price.

2. It's Universally Flattering

The elongated shape of an oval diamond makes fingers appear longer and slimmer—a flattering look for all hand shapes. Whether it's set in a sleek solitaire or surrounded by a hidden halo, the oval delivers a refined, feminine aesthetic that many brides are drawn to.

3. It’s Versatile and Modern

Ovals suit every style—from ultra-modern to vintage-inspired. Clients love pairing them with:

Minimalist bands

East-west settings (a rising 2025 trend)

Hidden halos or custom baskets

Chunky gold bands for a contemporary twist

At Morgan & Co Jewellery, Sunshine Coast leading bespoke engagement ring jeweller, we've seen oval stones in both lab-grown and natural diamonds flying out the door especially when paired with yellow gold.

4. Celebrities Love It So Do Millennials & Gen Z

From Hailey Bieber’s iconic oval diamond to Kourtney Kardashian’s minimalist setting, the oval cut has become the modern symbol of romance and understated luxury. It hits the sweet spot between timeless tradition and editorial edge and younger buyers are taking note.

Runner up Diamond Cuts for 2025

While the oval cut is leading the charge, here are a few other cuts growing in popularity that Morgan & Co Jewellery have noticed:

Emerald Cut: For lovers of clean lines and vintage glamour

Radiant Cut: Combines the brilliance of round with the shape of emerald

Pear Cut: Unique, elegant, and rising fast for non-traditional brides

Cushion Cut: A romantic favourite with soft, pillow-like edges

Choose What Speaks to You

Trends aside, the best diamond cut is the one that reflects your story and your partner’s personal style. The oval cut may be 2025’s favourite, but we always encourage our clients to choose based on meaning, not just marketing.

At Morgan & Co Jewellery, we specialise in helping you explore all your options from trending to timeless and designing a ring that feels like you.

THE PIECES THAT WALK WITH HER — A MOTHER’S DAY TRIBUTE

THE PIECES THAT WALK WITH HER — A MOTHER’S DAY TRIBUTE

At Morgan & Co, nestled here on the Sunshine Coast, we have the profound privilege of crafting jewellery that transcends adornment — it becomes a tangible vessel for emotion, a silent witness to life's most significant moments. Behind every gleaming facet and carefully chosen stone lies a woman with a unique story, a personal journey etched in love, loss, hope, and resilience. This Mother’s Day, we pause with heartfelt reverence to honour the diverse paths our cherished clients walk.

Some step into our Buderim studio as daughters, their eyes filled with love as they select a piece to celebrate their mum’s strength, a presence that has shaped their world. Others arrive as mothers themselves — radiant with a love that knows no bounds, resilient in the face of life's demands, and seeking a meaningful way to mark their own chapter of motherhood, a testament to their unwavering devotion. We also share moments with those carrying the heavy weight of loss, daughters and children seeking solace and remembrance in a tangible piece that keeps their mother's spirit close. And then there are those who sit with us in the delicate space between hope and heartache, their hearts yearning for the day they will finally hold a child of their own.

In these deeply personal moments, jewellery transforms from a beautiful design into something far more profound. It becomes an integral part of their story, a quiet companion that walks with them through moments of profound joy, quiet longing, heartfelt celebration, and gentle reflection.

Over the years, we’ve been honoured to create necklaces that whisper tales of a mother’s enduring legacy, engagement rings that sparkle with the promise of a new generation of love, and heirloom redesigns that breathe new life into cherished pieces once worn by those dearly missed, transforming them into contemporary symbols of enduring affection. We’ve also crafted countless bracelets gifted by daughters, tokens of appreciation offered with a simple, heartfelt “thank you, Mum” — no grand occasion needed, just pure love and gratitude expressed.

These are never just a transaction to us; they are deeply personal milestones, sacred moments of connection that we are privileged to witness and be a part of. We understand the weight of these occasions and approach each creation with the utmost care and intention.

This Mother’s Day, our hearts particularly go out to the daughters who have had to navigate life without their mothers for far too long. We have been humbled to create pieces for these incredible women, transforming their mothers' old, treasured jewellery into new, wearable memories. By carefully redesigning and reimagining these heirlooms, we aim to hold onto the sentiment, allowing a tangible connection to remain, a comforting presence in their lives. The stories behind these redesigns are powerful reminders of the enduring bond between a mother and child.

We have also had the joy of crafting engagement rings, wedding bands, and heartfelt "push presents" for couples transitioning from the early, exciting stages of married life into the transformative journey of becoming mothers and fathers. Witnessing their growing families and the desire to mark each milestone with a meaningful piece is a beautiful part of our work.

And for some, we’ve created rings that evolve with their growing families, adding tiny, precious birthstones with the arrival of each new blessing, a colourful and sparkling testament to the ever-expanding circle of love.

We have also sat with women navigating the quiet pain of loss, the yearning of those facing difficulties on their fertility journeys. Being a part of these intensely personal and often unspoken moments, both the joyful and the heartbreaking, is a profound responsibility that we carry with deep empathy and understanding.

So, this Mother’s Day, from our heart at Morgan & Co here on the Sunshine Coast, we see you. The mothers, the step-mums who embrace their role with open hearts, the grandmothers whose wisdom and love span generations, the cherished role models who guide and inspire, the beloved aunties who offer unwavering support, those who are grieving their child - the heartache that is unbearable, the women embarking on the incredible journey of giving birth, those gently grieving the absence of their own mother, and those holding onto the fervent hope of becoming a mother one day. Wherever you are on your unique and deeply personal journey, please know that we see you, we honour you, and we are here — to listen with open hearts, to design with profound intention, and to create something beautiful that will walk with you, a tangible symbol of the enduring strength and boundless love that defines the heart of a woman.

With Love,

Mother’s Day Reflections: Three Generations & The Heart of Morgan & Co

Mother’s Day Reflections: Three Generations & The Heart of Morgan & Co

By Morgan, Co-founder of Morgan & Co

When we first opened the doors to Morgan & Co here in beautiful Buderim, it wasn’t just about the sparkle of diamonds or the gleam of gold — it was about building something meaningful, something with roots that would grow deep and strong. What makes this business even more special, the very heart of it, is that I didn’t embark on this journey alone. I built it hand-in-hand with my mum, Laura.

She’s not just the co-founder of Morgan & Co; she’s the bedrock of our business. She brings the grounding force, the spirit, the years of dedication, and the wise heart that has helped shape every facet of what we do. We didn’t inherit a legacy of family jewellers stretching back generations. Instead, we forged our own path, driven by a shared vision, a passion for innovative design, a genuine love for connecting with our incredible clients, and a deep respect for the art of craftsmanship.

And just like any truly great piece of jewellery, building Morgan & Co has been a carefully considered process, layer by exquisite layer — each decision thoughtfully shaped by our core values and the unique tapestry of our shared story.

Now, as Mother’s Day approaches, the day carries an even richer, more profound meaning for me, viewed through the lens of motherhood to my two beautiful little girls. They are keen observers of everything we do. They witness the quiet resilience that fuels the late nights spent perfecting a design, the genuine joy that radiates when a client finds their perfect piece, and the immense pride we both feel when we hand over something that we know will be treasured for decades to come, becoming a part of their own family stories.

And that, I’ve come to realise, is the real legacy we’re building.

It extends far beyond the exquisite diamonds or the intricate beauty of our designs. It’s about demonstrating to the next generation, to my daughters and to all the young women who will follow, that women possess the strength and vision to build, to lead with conviction, to create with passion, and to hold space — both for nurturing others and for pursuing their own ambitions. It’s about shattering the outdated notion that motherhood and professional ambition are somehow opposing forces. It’s about showing them that working with genuine heart and integrity is just as valuable, if not more so, than sheer hustle.

At Morgan & Co, nestled here on the Sunshine Coast, we often say that our pieces are meticulously made to be worn, deeply loved, and eventually passed on, carrying stories and memories through generations. That very ethos extends to the business we’ve built. My deepest hope is that one day, my daughters will look back and see that we weren’t just designing and crafting beautiful jewellery; we were also shaping possibility. For them, and for every woman who walks through our doors, seeking a symbol of their own unique story.

This Mother’s Day, we pause to celebrate that enduring legacy. The quiet, stable, strength of women. The profound beauty found in the connections between generations. And the transformative power of creating something truly lasting, something imbued with heart and soul.

A Mother’s Wisdom: An Interview with Laura, Co-founder & Mum

To gain a deeper understanding of the heart behind Morgan & Co, I sat down with my incredible mum and co-founder, Laura, to reflect on her journey as a mother and grandmother. Here is what she said:

Q: What are some of your fondest memories of being a mum?

Laura — "As young children it was the way their faces lit up when they would spot me at school pick-up. As they grew up, it was the moment my kids confided in me like a friend — for the first time, and then over and over again.

I've loved watching my son and daughter grow into themselves. Strong, clever, kind. Watching them take on challenges, chase their dreams, and still turn to me when it matters."

Q: What are the biggest lessons motherhood has taught you that you’ve also applied to the business?

Laura — "Motherhood teaches you to slow down, breathe, and meet people where they are. The same applies in business, especially in the jewellery world. Clients need time to dream, to decide, to change their mind. Just like raising children, building trust takes time and it’s always worth it.

As a mum, I learned that sometimes the best thing you can do is just listen. That same quiet skill has been vital at Morgan & Co. Our clients aren’t just buying jewellery, they're sharing their stories, emotions, and life moments. It’s a privilege to hear them, and we honour that with empathy, not sales pressure.

Being a parent means learning to change course without warning. Plans go out the window. Emotions run high. You get creative. And in business, it’s the same. Motherhood made me resilient and taught me to expect the unexpected."

Q: How has seeing Morgan navigate motherhood while leading the business made you feel?

Laura — "Watching Morgan navigate motherhood while leading our business has been one of the most proud and awe-inspiring feelings of my life.

There’s a deep, quiet pride in seeing your daughter become a mother especially when you’ve walked that road yourself. But to see her do that while also showing up with strength and determination for Morgan & Co it’s overwhelming in the best way.

She’s juggling motherhood with the high-pressure demands of running a business and somehow she’s doing it with determination.

Above all, it’s made me fiercely proud. Proud of the mother she is. Proud of the leader she’s become. And proud that together, we’re building something that shows women you can create a life that holds both love and legacy, family and fulfilment."

Q: What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a grandmother to Morgan’s two daughters?

Laura — "The most rewarding aspect of being a grandmother to Morgan’s two daughters is the pure, uncomplicated joy of watching a new generation grow with all the love, patience, and perspective that only time can bring.

There’s something incredibly special about being a grandparent. You get to witness all the magic of childhood again but this time, with more presence, more softness, and a deeper appreciation for how fleeting it all is. I get to love them with my whole heart, without the same pressure I felt as a parent.

But the greatest gift? Watching Morgan be their mum. Seeing her nurture, guide, and pour her love into them knowing she was once that little girl in my arms is a full-circle kind of wonder I could never fully explain."

Q: What advice would you give to other mothers who are also pursuing their professional dreams?

Laura — "To every mother chasing a professional dream while raising a family:  there are many women pursuing the dream, you are more capable than you know, trust in yourself and your dreams.

My advice, start by letting go of the notion that balance means perfection. Some days, the business will get more of you. Other days, your family will. That’s not failure that’s reality. You’re building two beautiful things at once, a life for your family and a legacy of your own.

Trust your instincts, both as a mother and a leader. You’ve already mastered multitasking, emotional intelligence, and resilience, qualities every great business needs. Don’t underestimate how much motherhood has prepared you for this.

Ask for help. Say yes to support. Whether it’s a partner, a friend, a team, or a community.  Showing your children what it looks like to follow your purpose is one of the most powerful lessons you’ll ever give them.

Q: How do you see the values of motherhood reflected in the way Morgan & Co operates?

Laura — "Motherhood teaches you to care, to be present and to make people feel seen. That’s exactly how we run our business. Every client who walks through our door isn’t just buying jewellery; they're sharing a moment, a milestone, often something deeply emotional. And we treat that with the same respect, gentleness, and attentiveness we’d offer our own family.

There’s also a deep sense of patience and adaptability  in how we work, something motherhood teaches in spades. Whether it’s guiding someone through a custom engagement ring or navigating a last-minute design change, we approach it with calm, care, and the understanding that every journey is different.

Motherhood instills a powerful sense of legacy building something meaningful not just for now, but for the future. That’s what drives us at Morgan & Co. We’re not just creating beautiful pieces, we're helping people mark their stories, and in doing so, we’re also writing our own. One rooted in love, family, and the values we hope to pass down for generations."

A Balancing Act: An Interview with Morgan, Co-founder & Mum

I asked Mum to write me a list of questions to answer, so I took a moment to reflect on my own experience as a mum to two wonderful young girls while co-leading Morgan & Co:

Q: How has becoming a mother changed your perspective on working and balancing life with two young kids?

Morgan — "Before children, my concept of "busy" was a pale imitation of reality. Motherhood has unearthed a determination and energy I never knew I had – my internal "battery" has significantly increased its charge. It's ironic to think that I once wrongly assumed hiring a young mother was a risk, believing her focus would always be elsewhere. How completely wrong I was. My perspective now is that a young mother is an invaluable asset. Faced with the constraints of time, her drive to accomplish tasks efficiently and effectively is unparalleled. There's a unique and powerful work ethic that motherhood cultivates."

Q: What are some of the joys and challenges of balancing motherhood with the demands of running a business like Morgan & Co?

Morgan — "The guilt of absence is a constant companion – missing soccer matches, those irreplaceable moments of connection, the kid's birthday parties they attend. It's a deep ache when I feel I've fallen short for my children. I understand that these situations can foster their independence and resilience, but that doesn't fully soothe the sadness I see on their faces when I miss something important to them.

It's a core value for me to show my kids that as a woman, building a successful career and nurturing personal well-being aren't mutually exclusive. I often think about the subtle distinction between encouraging them with "you can do anything" and also guiding them towards self-compassion and healthy boundaries, because the risk of burnout is always present."

Q: How do you hope to inspire your daughters through the work you do at Morgan & Co?

Morgan — "I want them to see that passion and creativity can be the foundation of a fulfilling career. We built this business from the ground up, driven by a love for design and a desire to create beautiful, meaningful pieces. I hope they witness that dedication and understand that work doesn't have to be just a job – it can be an outlet for your talents and interests.

I want to show them that women can be both ambitious and nurturing. Running Morgan & Co while being a present mother is a constant balancing act, but I hope they see that it's possible to pursue your professional goals with determination while still prioritising family and connection."

Q: What are some of your favourite ways to connect with your daughters amidst the busy-ness of running a business?

Morgan — "I love stepping into my daughters' worlds. With Harriet, that's often through games like "Guess Who" and Charades, as well as our shopping trips and watching a series together. Cuddling on the couch and our bedtime chats about her day are also incredibly important to me.

I've learned that it's the quality of the moments, not just the quantity, that truly counts. And with my beautiful three-year-old Giselle, our connection is through drawing and puzzles – her greatest joys. She's just so adorable, I could stare at her all day."

Q: What’s one piece of advice you’ve received from your mum, Laura, about motherhood that has resonated with you?

Morgan — "To let go of control - although this is still a work in progress for me. One of the greatest gifts Mum gave me was her approachability; I always felt safe talking to her. I truly hope I can create that same open line of communication with my girls, although knowing them, they'll probably beeline straight to Lulu (Laura) for those conversations too".

Q: How do you hope the legacy of Morgan & Co will impact your daughters in the future?

Morgan —"It brings me such joy to hear Harriet talk about potentially working for Morgan & Co one day. Her creative mind is constantly buzzing, whether it's through imaginative games or her love for all things design. I can picture her creating beautiful pieces of jewellery. Of course, I want her to follow her own dreams, but if those dreams align with continuing the generations at Morgan & Co, we'd love that.

What I truly hope my girls take away is the understanding of how much dedication, love, and hard work went into building something we are passionate about and have made successful by being good at what we do and treating people with genuine care. Our clients entrust us with their most significant moments, and we are deeply grateful for that. For me, operating with integrity and raising kind, good-hearted daughters is what truly matters."

Thank You

This Mother’s Day, as we pause to honour the enduring strength and wisdom of women, we also reflect on the profound beauty found in the connections that bind generations together. At Morgan & Co, our story isn't just about crafting exquisite jewellery; it's about the transformative power of creation with heart, soul, and the unwavering spirit of family. As we celebrate this special day, our reflections offer a heartfelt glimpse into the very essence of Morgan & Co – a business built on love, family, and the timeless beauty of connection.

Pottery, Proposals, and the Perfect Ring: A Custom Engagement Ring Journey

Pottery, Proposals, and the Perfect Ring: A Custom Engagement Ring Journey

Sometimes, the most beautiful beginnings blossom in the most unexpected places. For Monique and James, their love story began amidst the creative energy of a pottery class. From shared moments over spinning wheels to a heartfelt proposal during a glazing session, their journey is as unique and handcrafted as the art they create.

Today, we're delighted to share Monique's experience of finding 'the one' and the equally special journey of designing her engagement ring with our team at Morgan & Co, a process that proved even more meaningful than she could have imagined.

Q — How did you and your fiancé meet?

Monique — "I was teaching a pottery class and James came along as one of the students. We started chatting during the session and found we had a lot in common. The conversation just flowed, and we really enjoyed each other’s company."

Q — Tell us a little bit about your proposal.

Monique — "James booked into one of my pottery classes — bringing things full circle to where we first met. Just before the class started, we were glazing some pieces together when he proposed. It was such a thoughtful and meaningful moment, and it couldn’t have been more us."

Q — How did you feel when you saw your ring for the first time?

Monique — "I felt a bit emotional, to be honest. It was so beautiful, but more than that, it really meant something — it was a symbol of our relationship and everything we’ve shared. It felt really special to wear."

Q — Tell us about your ring and the journey of creating it.

Monique — "I wasn’t sure what I wanted at all — I’ve never been much of a jewellery person and had no idea where to start. But the team at Morgan & Co made the whole process really easy. They explained everything clearly and helped me figure out what suited me and what I actually liked. In the end, we went with a marquise diamond on a yellow gold band — something I might never have picked on my own, but I absolutely love it. It feels so personal and really suits me."

Q —  How did you and your partner find the experience with Morgan & Co?

Monique — "We had such a great experience with Morgan & Co. Morgan and Laura were friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful. They made what could have been an overwhelming process feel really easy and enjoyable. We felt listened to and supported the whole way through, and the end result was something truly special."

Monique and James's story beautifully illustrates how the journey of creating a custom engagement ring can be just as significant as the sparkling symbol itself. For someone who initially felt unsure about jewellery, Monique's experience with Morgan & Co highlights the importance of guidance, understanding, and a collaborative approach in crafting a piece that truly resonates. Their story, born from a shared passion and culminating in a perfectly personal ring, is a testament to the power of connection – both in love and in creation. We were honoured to be a part of their story and wish them a lifetime of happiness together.

Your Engagement Ring Shouldn’t Feel Trendy — It Should Feel Like You

Your Engagement Ring Shouldn’t Feel Trendy — It Should Feel Like You

The excitement of getting engaged is often intertwined with the sparkle of a brand-new ring. It's a symbol of love, a promise of forever, and a piece many envision wearing every single day. But what happens when the dazzling design you once adored starts to feel…off? Perhaps the trendy halo now feels overwhelming, or the once-coveted metal tone no longer aligns with your evolving style. You're not alone, and this feeling doesn't diminish the significance of your commitment. It simply means your personal style journey has taken a new direction, and your engagement ring should reflect that authentic you.

The Pitfalls of Chasing Fleeting Trends in Diamond Engagement Rings

The world of engagement rings is constantly evolving, with new trends emerging season after season. From the enduring popularity of diamond engagement rings with oval cuts to the allure of hidden halos, the sleekness of skinny bands, the ethical considerations of lab-grown stones, and the romantic charm of vintage settings – it's easy to get caught up in what's currently "in."

In the initial excitement, fuelled by social media feeds and glossy magazines, choosing a ring that aligns with the prevailing trends can feel like the perfect decision. Maybe the design looked stunning in carefully curated photos, or perhaps it was the style everyone in your circle was embracing.

But as time passes and your personal style matures, that once-loved ring can start to feel less like a reflection of your true self and more like a relic of a bygone trend. This realisation can be disheartening, especially considering the profound emotional weight an engagement ring carries.

It's Absolutely Okay for Your Style to Evolve (And for Your Ring to Follow)

Your engagement ring, much like your home décor, your personal wardrobe, and your overall aesthetic preferences, should be an extension of who you are. Just as these aspects of your life evolve and shift over time, so too can your taste in jewellery.

Acknowledging that your current diamond engagement ring no longer resonates with you isn't a sign of ingratitude; it's a testament to your personal growth and self-awareness. This significant piece of jewellery sits on your finger every single day, a constant reminder of your love story. It should evoke joy and confidence, not a subtle sense of disconnect.

Reimagining Your Symbol of Love: What Can You Do?

The beauty of jewellery lies in its potential for transformation. If your engagement ring no longer feels like "you," there are several empowering options to consider:

Redesign Your Custom Engagement Ring: Many couples on the Sunshine Coast and beyond are choosing to revisit their original custom engagement ring design years down the line. This could involve resetting your existing diamond into a new setting that better reflects your current style, completely redesigning the band for a more contemporary feel, or even embarking on a custom ring design journey to create an entirely new piece that speaks to who you are today. A skilled custom jeweller can guide you through this exciting process.

Enhance Your Existing Ring: Sometimes, a complete overhaul isn't necessary. The simple act of adding carefully chosen stacking bands or a custom designed wedding band can dramatically alter the overall look and feel of your engagement ring, breathing new life into the original piece without changing its core sentiment.

Refine and Personalise Your Treasure: You don't have to part ways with the ring that marked such a special moment. A consultation with a knowledgeable custom jeweller on the Sunshine Coast can help you explore subtle yet impactful modifications. This could involve adding meaningful engravings, updating the proportions of the setting, or integrating personal details that feel more authentically "you."

Plan Ahead: Why Your Wedding Band Matters During Engagement Ring Design

Plan Ahead: Why Your Wedding Band Matters During Engagement Ring Design

When you’re designing the perfect engagement ring, it’s easy to get swept up in the excitement of centre stones, settings, and sparkle. But there’s one key detail that often gets overlooked: the wedding band. It may seem like something to think about later, but in reality, planning the engagement ring with the wedding band in mind can save you time, money, and stress — and make the overall look even more stunning. Many a time we see engagement rings that have been created without a thought to how the wedding band is going to look against it when the time comes.

Why It Matters

Your engagement ring and wedding band will be worn side by side, every day, for the rest of your life. These two rings need to not only fit together but also look like they belong together. Here’s why it’s worth considering both from the start:

Perfect Match

Designing both rings at the same time ensures they sit flush against each other and complement one another stylistically. You’ll avoid awkward gaps or mismatched styles.

Cohesive Design Vision

Planning ahead means you can get creative with how the rings interact — maybe your engagement ring has a curved band or halo that fits a contoured wedding band just right. It’s a chance to tell one complete story through both rings.

Budgeting Smarter

Thinking about the wedding band early on means you can build it into your budget, rather than being caught off-guard later. Some couples even opt to purchase both rings together and take advantage of bundled pricing.

 Less Hassle Later

You won’t need to worry about finding a band months later that fits your engagement ring—because you already solved that puzzle from the start.

Why Do It With Morgan & Co Jewellery?

Morgan & Co Jewellery offers a bespoke experience that brings your vision to life, with the care and craftsmanship only a passionate team can deliver. Here’s what sets their process apart:

Collaborative Design Experience

Whether you're designing solo or as a couple, the team works with you to design rings that feel personal, meaningful, and perfectly paired.

Expert Guidance

Morgan & Co’s jewellers understand how to balance form, function, and beauty. They’ll help you make decisions about how the rings will wear over time, not just how they look on day one.

Ethically Sourced & Custom Made

Each piece is handcrafted using high-quality materials with a commitment to sustainability and ethical sourcing.

Seamless Fit Guaranteed

Because the same team designs and makes both rings, you can trust they’ll nest together flawlessly.

Time Investment

Creating custom rings with Morgan & Co does take more time than buying off-the-shelf. But if you're after heirloom-quality pieces, this level of care and attention is worth every second.

What to Do When Your Engagement Ring Doesn’t Fit a Wedding Band Properly

So you’ve got a stunning engagement ring, but now you’re discovering that a traditional wedding band won’t sit neatly beside it. Maybe the setting sticks out, or the band curves in a way that leaves an awkward gap. Don’t worry you’ve got options, and Morgan & Co Jewellery can help you navigate them beautifully.

Here’s how we can help you resolve and refine this situation:

1. Custom Shaped (Contoured) Wedding Bands

If your engagement ring has a unique silhouette or a protruding setting, the best solution is often a custom contoured wedding band. This is a band that’s specially shaped to curve around the exact outline of your engagement ring.

Pros of this solution? Perfect fit, elegant and intentional look and still allows stacking with future anniversary bands if designed carefully.

Notched Bands

Another subtle solution is the notched band — a straight band with a small, precise cut-out where the engagement ring setting sits. This preserves the overall straight-line aesthetic of a classic wedding band, but still allows the rings to nestle closely.

Pros of this solution? Works well with solitaire or low-profile settings and maintains traditional look with a smart twist.

Redesigning or Adjusting your Engagement Ring

In some cases, it may be worth modifying the engagement ring itself — especially if you want a flush fit or stacking set but the current design doesn’t allow it. This could include:

Lifting the setting slightly to allow a straight band to tuck underneath, changing the basket style (the metalwork under the stone) to create more clearance or reshaping the shank (the band) to allow a snug pairing.

If your ring is sentimental, don’t worry, we treat it with the utmost care and only make suggestions that enhance and protect its original beauty and sentiment.

Wear Your Wedding Band on the Other Hand (Intentionally)

While less traditional, some clients choose to wear their engagement ring on one hand and their wedding band on the other, especially when the designs are bold or don’t pair comfortably. With the right styling, this can actually feel fresh and fashion-forward.

Morgan & Co can help you create a standalone statement wedding band that holds its own or ties into the engagement ring’s aesthetic even when worn separately.

Embrace the Gap — But Do It With Style

Sometimes, a tiny gap can actually look intentional, especially when paired with a unique or detailed band. We can guide you on styles like beaded, twisted, or gemstone-set bands that make the space a feature rather than a flaw.

If your engagement ring wasn’t designed with a wedding band in mind, you’re not alone—and it’s totally fixable. At Morgan & Co Jewellery, we’ve helped countless clients reimagine their ring sets in a way that feels thoughtful, personal, and beautifully balanced.

Whether you need a custom contoured band, a smart design tweak, or a fresh approach entirely, we’re here to create something that fits perfectly both in design and in meaning.
