How to Build the Perfect Bridal Stack

How to Build the Perfect Bridal Stack

The Art of Bridal Stacking: A Meaningful and Stylish Trend

Bridal stacks are becoming a leading trend in today’s bridal jewellery, and for good reason. Beyond their striking visual appeal, ring stacks offer a creative way for clients to express their unique style while celebrating more than just their engagement. By adding bands that commemorate important milestones, from engagements and anniversaries to personal achievements, a thoughtfully curated bridal stack can tell the story of your journey together.

Each ring represents a chapter in your life, giving you the opportunity to create a meaningful collection that’s truly yours. Whether you're looking to reflect your evolving style or mark significant moments, bridal stacks are a beautiful, personal way to celebrate life's milestones.

What is a Bridal Stack?

A bridal stack is a collection of rings, often centred around the engagement ring, that adds layers of meaning and significance. Each ring in the stack symbolises a milestone or moment in your life, whether it's to mark an anniversary, celebrate the arrival of a new baby, or refresh your style. This evolving collection allows you to personalise your bridal jewellery, creating a timeless and meaningful representation of your journey together.

With custom designs becoming one of the fastest-growing trends in jewellery, today’s brides are seeking bridal looks as unique as their love stories. A stackable collection of rings offers a perfect way for clients to express personal milestones and evolve their style over time. Each ring in the stack tells a chapter of their journey, making it a meaningful and adaptable choice that can grow with them as they celebrate life’s special moments.

Tips for Creating the Perfect Stack

Choose a Style or Aesthetic

The first thing to consider when building your bridal stack is your overall vision. At Morgan & Co, your trusted Sunshine Coast Jeweller, we can guide you through this exciting journey, helping you craft a personalised collection that reflects your unique story. From selecting the perfect engagement ring to adding stackable bands that commemorate special milestones, we'll help you bring your dream bridal stack to life.

Are you inspired by a classic and timeless style, or do you prefer something modern and bold? Understanding your aesthetic preferences will help us craft a custom engagement ring and wedding band stack that truly reflects your personal taste.

Add Personal Touches

A custom engagement ring or custom wedding band is a beautiful way to incorporate personal touches into your stack. Consider thoughtful options like engraving, mixed metals, or subtle design details that reflect your story while complementing your engagement ring. Whether it’s an engraving of an important date, a mix of gold and platinum to symbolise unity, or intricate detailing that holds special meaning, every piece in your stack should contribute to a cohesive, meaningful design.

Focus on Balance

When it comes to stacking, balance is key to achieving a well-rounded design. By combining a wider statement band, like Morgan & Co’s signature cigar band, with a more delicate piece, you can create a harmonious and eye-catching look. The contrast between bold and subtle elements brings depth and interest to the stack. Thoughtful balance is what makes a bridal stack both visually stunning and effortlessly wearable.

Step By Step Stacking

The Engagement Ring

Your custom engagement ring is the heart of your bridal stack, serving as the centrepiece around which all other rings are thoughtfully built. Each additional ring in the stack enhances the elegance of your engagement ring, adding layers of personal meaning and style.

The Showstopper

Morgan & Co crafts stunning eternity bands, anniversary rings, and offers the option to create a uniquely custom wedding band. Whether you choose a classic design or something tailored to your personal story, each ring brings more shine and character, making your stack even more meaningful.

The Cigar Band

Morgan & Co is well-known for our stunning Cigar bands. This bold, heavy style serves as the anchor of the bridal stack, bringing strength and structure to the overall design. Its commanding presence ties the entire look together, offering a perfect balance to the more delicate pieces while adding a touch of sophistication and edge to your stack.

Bridal stacks are more than just a trend; they are a celebration of love, milestones, and personal style. At Morgan & Co, your Sunshine Coast Jeweller, we are here to guide you through the process of stacking, helping you create something that is both beautiful and meaningful.

Do I Need to Ask for Her Father’s Blessing for marriage?

Do I Need to Ask for Her Father’s Blessing for marriage?

Tradition has long held that before proposing, a man should ask his partner’s father for permission. But in a modern world where relationships are built on equality and personal choice, is this step still necessary? The answer depends on your partner, her values, and the significance this tradition holds for her and her family.

At Morgan & Co, we believe a proposal should feel intentional, thoughtful, and true to your relationship. If you’re considering whether to ask for her father’s blessing, here’s what to keep in mind.

1. Understanding the Tradition

Historically, asking a father’s permission was tied to the idea of marriage as a family arrangement. Today, it has evolved into a gesture of respect rather than ownership—symbolising your commitment to becoming part of her family.

For some, this tradition still holds deep sentimental value. For others, it may feel outdated. The key is knowing what matters to your partner.

2. Does It Matter to Her?

The most important factor in this decision is how your partner feels about it. Consider:

• Has she ever mentioned this tradition? Some women find it romantic, while others strongly oppose it.

• How important is family approval to her? If she has a close relationship with her parents, they may appreciate being part of this milestone.

• Does she see marriage as a partnership between just the two of you, or does she value family involvement in big decisions?

If you’re unsure, subtle conversations about traditions and family expectations can give you clarity.

3. How to Approach the Conversation

If you decide to ask, do it in a way that feels natural and respectful. It’s not about asking for permission, but rather expressing your love and intention to marry their daughter.

Tips for the conversation —

• Keep it genuine and personal—mention what you love about her and why you want to marry her.

• Make it clear that this is her choice, first and foremost.

• If she’s especially close to her mother or another family figure, consider including them in the conversation.

4. When to Skip This Step

Not every proposal needs this tradition. You may choose to forgo it if —

• Your partner has expressed that she finds it outdated.

• Her family dynamics don’t align with this approach.

• You feel strongly that marriage is a decision between the two of you alone.

Instead, you might involve her family in a post-proposal celebration, showing them respect in a way that aligns with your relationship.

Final Thoughts

Asking for her father’s blessing isn’t a requirement—it’s a personal choice shaped by your values, her expectations, and your shared vision for marriage. The most important thing? That your proposal feels authentic, intentional, and deeply meaningful to both of you.

Planning your proposal? At Morgan & Co, we create engagement rings that are as unique as your love story. Discover designs crafted with precision and purpose—because this moment deserves nothing less. Book your Complementary Sunshine Coast Engagement Ring Consultation with our Bespoke Team.

The difference between a Garnet and a Ruby

The difference between a Garnet and a Ruby

Garnet

At Morgan & Co Sunshine Coast, we love to educate our clients on anything diamond or gem stones. Lets look at the difference between a garnet and a ruby.

A garnet is a group of silicate minerals that come in a wide range of colours, with the most well-known being deep red, but they can also be green, yellow, orange, pink, and even colourless. The different types of garnet have different chemical compositions, with some of the most common types being:

  • Almandine (red to reddish-brown)

  • Pyrope (deep red)

  • Spessartine (orange to reddish-brown)

  • Tsavorite (green)

  • Andradite (green, yellow, or brown)

  • Grossular (green, yellow, or colourless)

Garnets are also known for their hardness and durability, making them ideal for use in jewellery. Here at Morgan & Co Jewellery we see a lot of garnets that our clients love to remodel from jewellery from precious heirlooms handed down.

Ruby

Now let's look at the beautiful Ruby. A ruby is a precious gemstone, known for its striking red colour, which comes from the element chromium. It is actually a variety of the mineral corundum, which is the same mineral that forms sapphires, but rubies specifically have their red hue due to the presence of chromium.

Rubies are highly valued because of their color, which can range from a deep, rich red to lighter, pinkish hues. The most prized rubies are often described as having a "pigeon blood" red, a vivid, intense red with a hint of blue. This vivid colour, along with their hardness (they rank 9 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness, just below diamonds), makes rubies one of the most sought-after gemstones in the world.

In addition to their beauty, rubies have historical and cultural significance in many societies. They were considered symbols of passion, power, and protection. For instance, they were often used in crowns and royal jewellery.

Rubies are typically found in regions such as Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Mozambique.

Garnets and engagement rings

Garnets are a great choice if you are considering a custom ring design for your engagement ring.

Garnets can be a beautiful and unique option for your engagement ring, depending on your personal preference and style. At Morgan & Co we traditionally see clients lean towards diamonds, however we are seeing the tread lean towards coloured stones. Garnets offer a stunning alternative with their rich colour, historical significance, and affordability. Here are some reasons garnets might be a good option for an engagement ring:

Symbolism

Garnets have long been associated with love, passion, and commitment, making them a meaningful choice for an engagement ring. In ancient times, they were believed to bring peace, prosperity, and protection to the wearer.

Affordability

Compared to diamonds and other precious stones, garnets are generally more affordable. This allows you to choose a larger or higher-quality stone within a more reasonable budget. If you're looking for a striking, vibrant gemstone that doesn’t break the bank, garnets can be a great choice.

Durability

While garnets are durable (with a Mohs hardness of 6.5–7.5), they are softer than diamonds and sapphires, meaning they can be more prone to scratches or damage with daily wear. This doesn’t mean they can’t be used for engagement rings, but it’s important to take care of the ring and avoid exposing it to rough activities.

Unique and Eye-Catching

For those who want something different from traditional diamonds, a garnet engagement ring can be a bold and unique statement piece. The rich colors can give the ring a vintage or romantic look, and garnets often pair beautifully with different metals like yellow gold, rose gold, or platinum.

 Custom Designs

Garnets look stunning in a variety of ring settings, whether it’s a classic solitaire, halo, or vintage-inspired design. At Morgan & Co we also combine garnets with diamonds or other gemstones for a more intricate, one-of-a-kind design. Here at Morgan & Co we can help you create your dream ring using this unique stone.

Considerations

Maintenance: Since garnets are softer than diamonds, regular maintenance and care will help preserve their beauty. It’s important to clean the ring gently and store it properly.

Daily Wear: If you or your partner lead an active lifestyle, consider choosing a garnet with a protective setting to minimise the chance of damage.

Rubies and engagement rings

Morgan & Co love creating unique engagement ring designs highlighting the Ruby. Rubies are an excellent choice for engagement rings, offering a vibrant, luxurious alternative to traditional diamonds.

Here's why they make a great choice for an engagement ring

Symbolism

Rubies are often associated with love, passion, and vitality, making them a meaningful choice for an engagement ring. Their rich red color has long symbolized deep affection, desire, and commitment, making them perfect for expressing the depth of your relationship.

Durability

Rubies are incredibly durable, scoring 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, second only to diamonds and moissanite. This makes them a practical choice for an engagement ring, as they can withstand daily wear without easily scratching or chipping. Their durability ensures that the gemstone will maintain its beauty over time.

Vivid Colour

The striking red colour of rubies is one of their most alluring qualities. Rubies come in a variety of red shades, from deep crimson to pinkish-red, allowing you to choose a hue that suits your style. The most valuable rubies, known as "pigeon's blood" rubies, have a vivid, pure red with a hint of blue. This bold color can create a stunning focal point in an engagement ring.

Timeless and Classic

Rubies have a long history of being worn by royalty and have been prized for centuries. They are timeless and exude a sense of elegance and sophistication. For those who want a gemstone that will never go out of style, a ruby is an excellent choice.

Unique and Distinctive

While diamonds are the most common gemstone Morgan & Co use in engagement rings, choosing a ruby sets your ring apart and makes it more unique. Rubies offer a distinct, bold look that is both eye-catching and memorable. For someone who wants a ring that stands out from the crowd, a ruby can be the perfect choice.

Versatile in Design

Rubies pair beautifully with a variety of metals and settings. Whether you prefer a classic solitaire, a vintage-inspired design, or a modern ring with clean lines, rubies can fit seamlessly into different styles. Rubies look stunning with white gold, platinum, yellow gold, and rose gold, and they can also be paired with diamonds for added sparkle and contrast.

Things to Consider

The quality of a ruby is judged by its color, clarity, cut, and carat weight. The most desirable rubies have a vibrant, rich red color with good transparency. Morgan & Co are experts in choosing any coloured gem stones, especially rubies. It is  essential to choose a ruby from a reputable jeweler to ensure its authenticity and quality.

Treatment: Many rubies on the market are heat-treated to enhance their color and clarity, which is common and acceptable in the industry. However, it’s important to know if the ruby has undergone any treatments and to ensure it comes with proper certification.

Hidden Garnet and Rubies

Morgan & Co are synonymous for creating  beautiful engagement rings, we are known to add a hidden gem stone in our clients engagement ring band, with their permission of course. Usually the gem stone chosen is either the birthstone of the giver of the ring or the recipient. Lets find out who’s birthday celebrates either ruby and garnet gem stones.

Both ruby and garnet are associated with different months of the year as birthstones:

Ruby is the birthstone for July

It's a symbol of passion, love, and energy. Rubies are believed to bring strength, courage, and vitality to those born in this month, and their intense red colour is often connected with feelings of love and desire.

Garnet is the birthstone for January

Garnets are traditionally thought to symbolise protection, and they are also believed to bring good health, positive energy, and success to those born in January. The deep red of a garnet is often linked to friendship and loyalty.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re drawn to the deep, passionate red of a ruby or the rich variety of hues found in garnets, both gemstones offer a unique and meaningful choice for jewellery. From engagement rings to heirloom redesigns, these stones carry history, symbolism, and undeniable beauty.

At Morgan & Co, we love bringing our clients' visions to life with custom designs that celebrate their personal stories. If you're considering a garnet or ruby for your next piece, book a consultation with us today — we’d love to help you create something truly special.

White Gold: The Timeless Choice Making a Comeback in Engagement Rings

White Gold: The Timeless Choice Making a Comeback in Engagement Rings

In the world of engagement rings, trends may shift, but timeless elegance never fades. One classic choice that’s making a strong resurgence is white gold. Its sleek, modern aesthetic and durable nature have once again positioned it as a favourite among couples looking for the perfect ring. But what makes white gold so special, and why is it becoming the go-to choice for custom engagement rings? Let’s explore its appeal and how Morgan & Co., your trusted Sunshine Coast jewellers, can help you create a ring that is as unique as your love story.

The Sleek and Modern Look

White gold is celebrated for its sophisticated, contemporary appearance. Its silvery-white hue provides the perfect backdrop for diamonds and gemstones, allowing them to shine brilliantly. Whether you prefer a classic solitaire or an intricate halo setting, white gold enhances the beauty of your chosen stone. Unlike yellow or rose gold, which can create a vintage or romantic aesthetic, white gold offers a clean, modern finish that complements a variety of styles.

At Morgan & Co., we specialise in custom-made engagement rings, ensuring that every detail—from the band to the setting—is crafted to reflect your personal style. Our bespoke designs cater to those who appreciate quality craftsmanship and individuality. Whether you’re drawn to a timeless round brilliant diamond or a unique fancy-cut stone, our custom design process ensures that your white gold engagement ring is truly one-of-a-kind.

Durability for Everyday Wear

An engagement ring is more than just a piece of jewellery—it’s a symbol of love meant to be worn daily. Durability is a key consideration when selecting the perfect metal, and white gold is an excellent choice for everyday wear. Composed of gold mixed with white metals like palladium or silver, white gold offers resilience and resistance to scratches.

While it’s not as hard as platinum, white gold remains a strong and enduring metal that retains its beauty over time. To maintain its signature shine, white gold is coated with rhodium—a process that enhances its brightness and provides a protective layer. At Morgan & Co., we educate our clients on how to care for their white gold rings, ensuring they stay as stunning as the day they were first worn. Our expert team, located in Buderim, provides professional maintenance services, including rhodium re-plating, to keep your ring looking flawless for years to come.

Versatility with Diamonds and Gemstones

One of the biggest advantages of white gold is its versatility. Whether you opt for a traditional diamond engagement ring or want to incorporate a unique gemstone like sapphire, emerald, or morganite, white gold provides a neutral yet elegant setting that enhances the brilliance of your stone. Unlike yellow gold, which can cast a warm glow on diamonds, white gold allows the natural brilliance of the diamond to take centre stage, making it a popular choice for those who want their engagement ring to sparkle with maximum brilliance.

At Morgan & Co., we work closely with our clients to select the perfect gemstones and design elements that reflect their personal preferences. Whether you desire a custom-made diamond engagement ring featuring a striking oval-cut diamond or a vintage-inspired ring with intricate detailing, our bespoke process ensures that every piece is designed to tell your love story.

Custom Design at Morgan & Co.

At Morgan & Co., we believe that every engagement ring should be as unique as the love it represents. Our Sunshine Coast jewellers take a highly personalised approach, guiding you through every step of the design process. From selecting the ideal diamond to choosing the perfect white gold setting, we ensure that your vision is brought to life with precision and craftsmanship.

Whether you envision a modern white gold engagement ring with a sleek, minimalist design or a vintage-inspired piece with intricate details, our team is here to create a bespoke ring tailored to your style. Our intimate consultation process allows you to be involved in every aspect of the design, ensuring that your engagement ring is a true reflection of your personality and relationship.

Our Favourite Custom Made White Gold Engagement Rings

At Morgan & Co., we take immense pride in crafting custom-made engagement rings that embody timeless elegance and personal significance. Some of our favourite bespoke creations include Sky's ring, a modern interpretation of classic beauty, featuring a marquise-cut natural diamond set in a sleek two-claw white gold setting with sculptural shoulders. Zoe's ring exudes refined sophistication with its bold half-round white gold band and radiant-cut cultured diamond, offering the perfect balance of contemporary structure and classic brilliance. Mary's ring is a stunning masterpiece with a radiant-cut cultured diamond, elevated by a hidden halo of diamonds that add subtle sparkle from every angle. Lily’s ring, inspired by nature’s grace, showcases a brilliant round diamond in a delicate flower-inspired platinum setting, a perfect choice for those who love timeless romance with a unique touch. Each of these designs reflects our commitment to craftsmanship and storytelling, ensuring that every ring is as extraordinary as the love it represents.

A Return to Classic Elegance

While yellow gold and platinum have remained popular choices for engagement rings, white gold is making a strong comeback, thanks to its timeless yet modern appeal. It offers the perfect blend of sophistication and simplicity, making it an ideal choice for those who appreciate both tradition and contemporary design. Whether you’re drawn to its versatility, its ability to enhance diamond brilliance, or its sleek and polished look, white gold continues to stand the test of time as a favourite among couples.

Final Thoughts

White gold isn’t just a fleeting trend—it’s a metal that has long been cherished for its beauty, durability, and timeless appeal. Its modern look, ability to enhance diamond brilliance, and adaptability to various styles make it the perfect choice for an engagement ring that will be cherished for a lifetime. Whether you prefer a classic solitaire, a dazzling halo, or a custom-made engagement ring, white gold remains a stunning and sophisticated option.

Old Mine Cut Diamonds: A Timeless Choice for Your Engagement Ring

Old Mine Cut Diamonds: A Timeless Choice for Your Engagement Ring

Morgan & Co Jewellery Sunshine Coast are specialists in sourcing old mine cut diamonds. As we approach 2025, we anticipate a resurgence in this timeless diamond cut, with more clients incorporating it into their engagement ring designs.

So, what exactly is an old mine cut diamond? An old mine cut diamond is a historic style of diamond cutting, popular in the 18th and 19th centuries during the Georgian and Victorian periods. This cut stands out for its antique charm, and it’s a design that has captured the attention of many of our clients at Morgan & Co. "Couples looking for something unique, rather than the increasingly common lab-grown diamonds, are turning to old mine cut diamonds for their special day,” we’ve noticed through frequent inquiries.

Old Mine Cut Diamond: History and Significance

  • Origin of the Name: The term "old mine cut" comes from diamonds initially sourced from the early mines in India and Brazil, predating the discovery of diamonds in South Africa.

  • Early Brilliance: While not as dazzling as modern round brilliant cuts, old mine cut diamonds have a distinct charm and warmth, especially when viewed under candlelight.

  • Hand-Cut Craftsmanship: Each old mine cut diamond was hand-cut by a craftsman, giving every stone its own unique set of proportions and details. This individuality is a major draw for lovers of antique jewellery, as no two stones are exactly alike.

Key Features that Distinguish Old Mine Cut Diamonds from Modern or Lab-Grown Cuts:

  • Cushion Shape: Old mine cuts typically feature a cushion or soft, rounded square shape, rather than the perfect roundness of modern cuts.

  • High Crown, Small Table: The crown is higher, and the table (the flat top facet) is smaller than what you'd see on contemporary diamonds, providing a vintage aesthetic that reflects light more subtly.

  • Large Facets: These diamonds were cut with larger facets, designed to sparkle in candlelight, making the glow more romantic and understated than modern brilliance.

  • Deep Pavilion: The deep pavilion creates a slightly chunkier and more substantial appearance.

  • Open Culet: The culet, or the bottom tip of the diamond, is flat and open rather than pointed, another hallmark of antique diamond cutting.

Why Choose an Old Mine Cut Diamond?

  • Antique Appeal: For those with a love of history and vintage designs, old mine cut diamonds offer a beautiful connection to the past and a distinct look that’s different from today’s high-tech diamond cuts.

  • Romantic Uniqueness: The imperfect symmetry and larger facets give the diamond a softer glow, and many find the individuality of each stone adds a unique, personal touch to their engagement ring.

  • Eco-Friendly Choice: Selecting a vintage or antique diamond, like an old mine cut, means you’re choosing a more sustainable option, avoiding the need for new mining.

Are Old Mine Cut Diamonds Expensive? The price of an old mine cut diamond can vary, depending on factors like rarity, size, quality, and demand:

  • Rarity: Since these diamonds are no longer being cut, their limited availability increases their value. Their historical significance adds another layer of appeal, making them more desirable to collectors and vintage jewellery enthusiasts.

  • Size and Carat: Larger old mine cut diamonds are rarer and can command higher prices. Smaller stones, particularly those with imperfections, may be more affordable.

  • Cut and Quality: While modern diamonds aim for symmetry and brilliance, old mine cut diamonds were cut by hand, leading to less standardisation. Those with better proportions and brilliance will generally be more expensive, though the imperfections of lower-priced stones still hold great charm.

At Morgan & Co, we’ve found that many of our clients are drawn to these less-than-perfect stones because of their distinctive character, which gives their engagement ring a sense of individuality.

Old Mine Cut vs. Modern Diamonds While old mine cut diamonds may sometimes be priced lower than modern round brilliant diamonds due to their lower brilliance, higher-quality examples or those set in rare vintage rings can be comparable or even more expensive than modern diamonds.

Why an Old Mine Cut Diamond Could be Perfect for Your Engagement Ring

  • Unique and One-of-a-Kind: Hand-cut old mine diamonds ensure that no two stones are identical. Their unique shapes and imperfections add character and personality to your engagement ring, making it as unique as your love story.

  • Romantic Vintage Charm: Steeped in history, an old mine cut diamond evokes a sense of timeless romance. Their soft glow is perfect for those who prefer an understated vintage aesthetic over the sharp brilliance of modern diamonds.

  • Sustainable Choice: Opting for a vintage diamond is an environmentally conscious decision. These diamonds were mined long ago, and choosing a recycled stone avoids contributing to new mining activities.

  • Affordable with Character: Old mine cut diamonds often offer a better value than modern diamonds. Their appeal lies not in perfection but in the charm of their historical context and distinctive appearance.

Pairing Old Mine Cut Diamonds with Modern Designs At Morgan & Co, we believe that old mine cut diamonds look beautiful in both vintage-inspired and modern settings. For a traditional vintage feel, we recommend pairing an old mine cut with intricate detailing or a halo of smaller diamonds. For a more contemporary look, a simple solitaire setting can showcase the diamond’s antique beauty with a sleek, modern touch.

Timeless and Unique If you're searching for an engagement ring that combines historical allure, individuality, and enduring beauty, an old mine cut diamond is a wonderful choice. Its romantic, vintage charm brings a touch of the past into your future, creating an engagement ring that tells a story as unique as your own.

At Morgan & Co Jewellery, we specialise in sourcing these exceptional diamonds, helping you find the perfect stone to celebrate your everlasting commitment. Book your complementary consultation to learn more about old mine cut diamonds on the Sunshine Coast.

Frequently Asked Questions About Old Cut Diamonds

1. What is an old cut diamond?

An old cut diamond refers to a diamond cut by hand before modern cutting techniques were developed. These diamonds, including old mine cuts and old European cuts, were designed to sparkle beautifully under candlelight, giving them a unique vintage charm.

2. What is the difference between an old mine cut and an old European cut?

Old mine cut diamonds have a cushion-like shape with a high crown, small table, and a large open culet, while old European cut diamonds are rounder with more symmetrical facets and a slightly higher brilliance. Both are vintage cuts, but old mine cuts are typically older, dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries.

3. Why do old cut diamonds have an open culet?

The open culet (a flat facet at the bottom of the diamond) was intentionally cut to reduce the risk of chipping. This was a common practice before precision cutting tools existed. Today, it adds to the vintage appeal of old cut diamonds.

4. Do old cut diamonds sparkle as much as modern diamonds?

Old cut diamonds have a different type of sparkle compared to modern brilliant cuts. They reflect light in broader, more dramatic flashes rather than the continuous sparkle of modern diamonds. Their beauty shines best in soft lighting, giving them a romantic and warm glow.

5. Are old cut diamonds more expensive than modern diamonds?

The price of an old cut diamond depends on its rarity, quality, and demand. Some old mine cut or old European cut diamonds can be more affordable than modern cuts, but high-quality or rare vintage diamonds can be just as expensive, if not more.

6. Are old cut diamonds considered sustainable?

Yes! Since they are antique and pre-mined, choosing an old cut diamond is an eco-friendly option. It avoids the need for new mining, making it a sustainable choice for those looking to reduce their environmental impact.

7. Can I get an old cut diamond in a modern engagement ring setting?

Absolutely! Old cut diamonds pair beautifully with both vintage-inspired and modern settings. A simple solitaire setting highlights their uniqueness, while intricate or halo designs enhance their antique charm.

8. How do I know if an old cut diamond is authentic?

Authentic old cut diamonds will have hand-cut facets, a deeper pavilion, a high crown, and an open culet. If you’re purchasing one, always work with a trusted jeweller who specialises in antique diamonds, like Morgan & Co.

9. Can old cut diamonds be recut into modern shapes?

While old cut diamonds can be recut into modern brilliant shapes, doing so removes their vintage character and historical charm. Many prefer to keep them in their original form to preserve their uniqueness and value.

10. Why should I choose an old cut diamond for my engagement ring?

If you love history, romance, and individuality, an old cut diamond is a perfect choice. Each stone is unique, with a soft, warm sparkle that stands out from modern diamonds. It’s also a meaningful, sustainable option for those who appreciate antique jewellery.

Tami & Ben's Love Story: A Dream Proposal with a Bespoke Morgan & Co Ring

Tami & Ben's Love Story: A Dream Proposal with a Bespoke Morgan & Co Ring

At Morgan & Co, every engagement ring tells a unique love story, and Tami’s is one we’re so excited to share. From the moment her partner came to us with a vision to the magical proposal, every detail was crafted with love. In this special interview, Tami shares her engagement journey, her thoughts on the ring, and what made the moment unforgettable.

Interview with Tami

How did you and your fiancé meet?

"Ben and I first crossed paths on tinder where we exchanged one message asking if the other was going to the big pineapple music festival the next day. He said yes and I jokingly said I’d see him there, fully knowing that this was very unlikely. There isn’t any reception and thousands of people there.  To my surprise, during the end of the night I had a tap on my shoulder. It was Ben, he had lost his friends and spotted me in the crowd. Little did I know that would be the start of our forever."

Tell us a little bit about your proposal.

"Ben and I aren't able to keep secrets from one another, we tell each other absolutely everything. Which meant this was a very challenging thing to keep secret. Ben had organised for a beautiful beach picnic in Noosa. My friends had driven me to Noosa to meet Ben where I was blindfolded until we reached the beach where Ben proposed.  It was beautiful and I was definitely surprised."

How did you feel when you saw your ring for the first time?

"I have never seen something so beautiful, it's not only a ring but a symbol of being able to spend the rest of my life with the person I love more than anything. I genuinely can't stop looking at my ring, it's absolutely breathtaking."

How did you and your partner find your experience with Morgan & Co?

"Our experience with Morgan & Co has been nothing short of incredible! From the very first meeting, the process has been seamless and so easy. How Your Wedding Band is Made & How to Choose the Perfect Wedding Band

How Your Wedding Band is Made & How to Choose the Perfect Wedding Band

Choosing the perfect wedding band to complement your engagement ring is no small task. It’s a symbol of your commitment, your love, and your unique style, meant to last a lifetime. At Morgan & Co, we believe that your wedding band should reflect not only the beauty of your engagement ring but also your personal taste and lifestyle. Here’s a detailed guide to help you choose the ideal wedding band, along with how we customise each band to fit perfectly with your existing engagement ring.

Step 1: Know Your Engagement Ring Style

The first step in choosing a wedding band is to understand the style of your engagement ring. The wedding band should complement your engagement ring, so it's important to consider factors such as the shape of the diamond or gemstone, the setting style, and the metal type. At Morgan & Co, we specialize in creating wedding bands that fit seamlessly with your engagement ring, whether it’s a solitaire, a halo, or a vintage-inspired design. We’ll work with you to select a wedding band that enhances the overall look while ensuring it fits beautifully against your engagement ring.

Step 2: Consider Your Lifestyle and Daily Wear

Your wedding band will be worn every day, so it’s essential to consider your lifestyle and the level of activity it involves. Whether you’re constantly on the move, working with your hands, or have a more laid-back routine, your wedding band should be both comfortable and durable enough to withstand the wear and tear of daily life. At Morgan & Co, we take time to learn about your lifestyle—your job, your hobbies, and how active you are. We use this information to ensure that your wedding band is not only stunning but also practical for your everyday wear. For example, we can create low-profile bands that sit snugly against your engagement ring, or choose metals that are more resistant to scratching and bending, ensuring longevity and comfort.

Step 3: Think About the Fit

The fit of your wedding band is crucial for both comfort and aesthetics. Your band should fit comfortably alongside your engagement ring, sitting flush without gaps or discomfort. Our team at Morgan & Co works closely with you to take accurate measurements and ensure that your wedding band fits perfectly. We also take into account the height of your engagement ring’s setting, ensuring the two rings sit beautifully together. Whether you choose a simple band, a matching set, or a more intricate design, we’ll make sure that your wedding band is the right size and sits comfortably for everyday wear.

Step 4: Choose the Metal

When it comes to metals, there are a variety of options to choose from, including white gold, yellow gold, rose gold, platinum, and more. Each metal offers unique qualities, from the warm hue of yellow gold to the cool sophistication of platinum. At Morgan & Co, we offer a range of metal options to match both your engagement ring and your personal style. Our experts will guide you in selecting the right metal based on your preferences, skin tone, and the durability you require. We offer metals in 9ct, 14ct, and 18ct, and can create bespoke designs to ensure your band perfectly complements your engagement ring.

Step 5: Personalise Your Wedding Band

One of the most meaningful aspects of a wedding band is the ability to personalise it. A personalised wedding band can feature engraving, gemstones, or other elements that make it unique to you and your partner. Whether you wish to engrave a meaningful date, initials, or a personal message, Morgan & Co can work with you to create a one-of-a-kind piece. Personalisation adds an extra layer of significance to your wedding band, making it even more special.

Creating a Wedding Band with Morgan & Co

At Morgan & Co, we specialise in customising wedding bands that are perfectly suited to your engagement ring and your lifestyle. Our team will work with you to design a wedding band that complements your existing engagement ring, ensuring that the two pieces fit together beautifully. We take into account the height, setting, and design of your engagement ring to create a band that sits seamlessly alongside it.

We also consider your lifestyle and how you’ll be wearing the ring on a daily basis. For example, if you work in a hands-on job or enjoy outdoor activities, we may recommend a more durable metal or a design that is less prone to scratches. We take the time to understand your unique needs and preferences, ensuring that your wedding band is not only beautiful but also practical for everyday wear.

Step 6: Consider Matching Sets

If you're someone who prefers a more uniform look, you may want to consider a matching wedding band set. At Morgan & Co, we offer the option to create matching wedding bands that perfectly complement your engagement ring. Whether you want a simple band that mirrors the design of your engagement ring, or a more intricate set with additional gemstones or details, we can craft a matching set that aligns with your vision.

How Your Wedding Band is Made: The Art of Crafting a Morgan & Co Wedding Ring

At Morgan & Co, we are proud to use the highest-quality craftsmanship in the creation of every wedding band. When you choose a wedding band from us, you’re choosing a piece of jewellery made with care, precision, and attention to detail. Here's a look at how your Morgan & Co wedding band is created:

  1. Beads of Gold
Our alloys are melted in a temperature- and atmospherically controlled environment, ensuring the consistent quality of our metal. The molten gold takes a cold bath in a vat where golden granules form, ensuring the finest quality.

  2. Turning into Ingots
The gold granules are then melted again at a precise temperature and poured into molds to create ingots. These cool and harden before leaving the mold, forming the base of your band.

  3. That's How Ingots Roll
The ingot is then rolled into a flat plate of the required thickness. The roller pressure makes the metal hotter and easier to work with, also strengthening it by changing its grain structure.

  4. Stamping Gold Washers
The flat gold ingot is pressed into washer shapes. Any leftover gold is remelted to ensure there is no waste, contributing to more beautiful wedding bands.

  5. Washer is Coned in a Press and Die
Each washer is then pressed into a cone shape, creating strength in every ring.

  6. Cone Turns to Slug
The cone is pressed into a die, becoming what we call a ‘slug’—the essence of a strong and durable wedding band.

  7. Width Control
The gold ‘slug’ is then pressed to its required width, ensuring the ring has even sides and parallel edges.

  8. Rolled for Your Ring Size
The slug is rolled and turned to the exact size of your finger, ensuring a perfect fit.

  9. Lathed to Perfection, Inside and Out
Both the outside and inside of the ring are lathed to ensure a smooth, comfortable fit.

  10. Hand Crafting, a Specialty
Unique ring profiles and specialty pieces are turned using a manual lathe for a highly specialised finish.

  11. The Hallmark
Each Morgan & Co ring is stamped with a hallmark, a symbol of quality and a guarantee of lasting value.

  12. The Carat Stamp
The carat stamp ensures you are wearing the finest quality gold in the country.

  13. Polished by Hand
Each ring is hand-polished by our skilled jewellers, removing imperfections and enhancing the natural lustre of the precious metal.

  14. Sparkling Clean
The ring is immersed in an ultrasonic cleaner, removing any polishing residues for a brilliant shine.

  15. Quality Control
Finally, after a thorough quality inspection, your wedding band is ready to be dispatched—just in time for your big day!

Final Thoughts

Choosing the perfect wedding band is an important decision, but it should be a joyful one. With Morgan & Co, you can trust that we’ll guide you every step of the way, from selecting the right style and metal to ensuring the perfect fit. We believe that a wedding band should be a reflection of your unique love story, and we’re committed to creating pieces that will last a lifetime. Whether you choose a classic, timeless design or a custom creation, your wedding band will be a symbol of your love and commitment for years to come. Let us help you find the perfect match to your engagement ring and create a wedding band that fits seamlessly with your style and lifestyle.

How Much Should You Spend on an Engagement Ring? A Guide to Budgeting

How Much Should You Spend on an Engagement Ring? A Guide to Budgeting

The age-old question, "How much should I spend on an engagement ring?" continues to be a hot topic in 2025. With economic challenges, shifting priorities, and evolving traditions, the answer isn’t as straightforward as it once was. The outdated "three months' salary" rule is no longer the standard — today, couples are focusing on meaningful investments, balancing financial responsibility with the desire for a high-quality ring that will last a lifetime.

Finding the Right Budget for You

The reality is that every couple’s financial situation is different. With the rising cost of living and economic uncertainty, young couples are more conscious of their spending than ever before. However, an engagement ring isn’t just a fleeting purchase — it’s a lifelong symbol of love, commitment, and a future together. It’s also a piece of jewellery that can be passed down through generations, making quality a crucial consideration.

Instead of focusing on a fixed percentage of your salary, consider these factors when setting your budget:

  • Your financial situation – What can you comfortably afford without going into debt?

  • Long-term value – This ring will be worn every day, so investing in quality is key.

  • Your partner’s preferences – Would they prefer a traditional diamond, a unique gemstone, or a custom piece?

  • Your wedding plans – Many couples are choosing to reduce wedding costs, allowing them to invest more in their rings.

Smart Ways to Maximise Your Budget

If you’re looking for a stunning engagement ring without breaking the bank, there are several ways to maximise your budget without sacrificing beauty or quality.

Lab-Grown Diamonds – A Stunning and Affordable Option

Lab-grown diamonds have become a game-changer in the jewellery industry. These diamonds are chemically, physically, and optically identical to natural diamonds but come at a significantly lower price. Here’s why they’re worth considering:

  • More for Your Money – Lab-grown diamonds cost 30-50% less than their natural counterparts, allowing you to get a larger, higher-quality stone within your budget.

  • Sustainable and Ethical – For eco-conscious couples, lab-grown diamonds provide a conflict-free option without the environmental impact of mining.

  • Timeless Beauty – Unlike alternative stones like moissanite or cubic zirconia, lab-grown diamonds hold their value and brilliance over time.

Remodelling Pre-Loved and Heirloom Jewellery

A beautiful way to create a meaningful engagement ring is by remodelling old jewellery or incorporating heirloom diamonds. If you have a piece of jewellery passed down from a loved one, our team at Morgan & Co can breathe new life into it, crafting a design that feels personal and modern while preserving its sentimental value.

Benefits of remodelling jewellery —

  • Cost-Effective – Using existing diamonds or gold reduces the cost of sourcing new materials.

  • Deeply Meaningful – An heirloom ring carries history, love, and family traditions.

  • Fully Customisable – Our expert designers can transform old jewellery into a completely new, custom-designed piece that reflects your unique love story.

The Shift in Wedding Trends: Smaller Celebrations, Bigger Investments in Rings

With the rising cost of weddings, many couples are choosing to downsize their celebrations—or even elope. Intimate weddings, micro-weddings, and elopements allow couples to focus on what truly matters: their commitment to each other. Instead of spending tens of thousands on a one-day event, they are investing in lifelong symbols of love, such as high-quality engagement rings and wedding bands.

This shift means couples are prioritising:

  • Timeless quality over extravagant events

  • Bespoke, sentimental jewellery over mass-produced designs

  • Financial security while still celebrating their love in a meaningful way

Why Quality Matters in an Engagement Ring

While it’s important to be mindful of your budget, an engagement ring is not an area to compromise on quality. Unlike other expenses, this ring is something that will be worn every single day, for decades to come. Poor-quality rings may need costly repairs or replacements in the future, making them more expensive in the long run.

At Morgan & Co, we specialise in crafting high-quality, bespoke engagement rings tailored to your style and budget. Whether you’re looking for a custom-designed ring, a lab-grown diamond, or a remodelled heirloom piece, we’re here to guide you through the process and create something truly special.

Planning an Italian Wedding

Planning an Italian Wedding

“La Dolce Vita” — “The Sweet Life”

Ciao, beautiful readers! As the enchanting allure of Italy beckons, brides are finding themselves immersed in the whirlwind of planning their dream Italian wedding. Italian weddings, with their timeless elegance and romantic charm, have become all the craze for destination weddings in 2024 and I'm thrilled to take you on this journey of recommendations when planning an unforgettable celebration in the heart of Italy.

Before we begin our romantic dive into all things Italian Weddings, let’s first consider some important questions:

Do we want everyone to stay in the same place?

Is there extra accommodation nearby for other guests?

Do we need a venue close to a church or town hall?

How easy is it to reach the venue?

Are there indoor options for a reception in case of rain?

We are having our ceremony in the garden. Is there a plan B for that too?

Are there any music restrictions?

Are we allowed to choose our own vendors?

Does a particular wedding planning agency have a monopoly/exclusivity at this venue?

Is there a restaurant on-site, or do they provide some food and drink on request?

Once you have given the questions above some thought, you will have more of an understanding of the elements that you need to consider when planning your Italian wedding. Now let’s delve into finding the perfect Italian wedding venue!

The Venue: Where Romance Meets History

Picture this — rolling vineyards, historic villas, and the soft glow of the Tuscan sun. The first decision is perhaps the most challenging — choosing the perfect venue. After countless hours of research and daydreaming, you will find yourself drawn to a venue which reflects you as a couple, possibly a city or town that holds some old memories or a sentimental place that holds history for your family, your heritage or a special destination that you visited as a couple. Your choices are endless.

Tuscany —

With the centuries-old villas nestled in the hills of Tuscany which gives you the promise of exchanging vows amidst centuries-old olive groves and vineyards that feel like a fairy tale come to life.

Villa Cetinale, named “the most beautiful villa in Tuscany” by Architectural Digest, is marvellous, with a world famous garden, its own chapel, hermitage, and holy wood. The park contains seven votive chapels, sixteen full length statues and 29 busts, as well as many stone animals and monsters. With plenty of rooms for guests, staff on hand and amenities for days, this villa in Tuscany is the perfect wedding destination venue for you and your guests.

Sicily —

If you have settled on Sicily for your destination Italian wedding, you may opt to marry in a countryside boutique venue in Sicily. Do yourself a favour and explore the picturesque Sicilian estate, Dimora delle Balze. This romantic venue is full of Mediterranean atmosphere but with a contemporary design perfect for your exclusively private destination wedding. The 19th Century Sicilian retreat of Dimora dell Balze extends to about 27 hectares, a truly magical place with a great evocative power situated between two of the most attractive Sicilian cities: Noto and Siracusa.

Lake Como —

George Clooney, eat your heart out! If you imagine arriving to your private intimate villa on the coastline of Lake Como, you can’t go past this beautiful venue, Regina Teodolinda Laglio, with the enchantment of the lake and like a fairytale come true, this intimate Italian wedding venue allows for 70 guests and has both boat access and accommodation. The perfect choice for an intimate Italian wedding.

Invitations that Whisper Romance

Once the venue is secured, turn your attention to invitations that set the tone for the romance to come. Drawing inspiration from the scenic landscapes and rich cultural tapestry of Italy, the invitations echoed the timeless beauty of a Renaissance masterpiece. Each envelope holds not just an invitation but a whispered promise of an unforgettable celebration. Our recommendation for wedding invitations is Blue Bird Invitations - this stunning small business located in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and will help you create the most perfect invitations for your Italian Wedding.

A Culinary Symphony of Flavours

Italian weddings are synonymous with exquisite cuisine.Through speaking with your chosen venue, you will be assisted in selecting a menu that celebrates the regional flavours of Italy and the area you are tying the knot. From handmade pasta to the finest wines, each culinary choice is a nod to the country's gastronomic legacy. This may be the highlight of your wedding. Is there anything better than sipping Italian wines and enjoying the flavours of Italy?

The Dress: A Vision in Lace and Silk

Finding the perfect wedding dress for your Italian wedding will feel like stepping into a scene from a classic Italian film. Guided by the spirit of timeless elegance, you may wish to choose a gown adorned with intricate lace and flowing silk — a dress that echoes the grace of Italian fashion, capturing the essence of La Dolce Vita.

Tips on Planning Your Italian Wedding From Australia

Planning an Italian wedding from Australia is undoubtedly an exciting adventure that requires careful consideration and organisation. Here are some tips to help you navigate the process and create a dream wedding in the heart of Italy.

Start Early

Begin your wedding planning well in advance to allow ample time for research, decision-making, and coordination. Italy's popular wedding venues and vendors can book up quickly, so securing your choices early is key.

Research and Choose the Perfect Venue

Italy boasts a plethora of stunning venues, from historic villas to charming vineyards. Research different regions and venues, considering factors such as ambiance, capacity, and accessibility. Virtual tours and online reviews can be valuable resources.

Hire a Local Wedding Planner

Enlist the expertise of a local wedding planner who understands the ins and outs of planning weddings in Italy. They can navigate language barriers, local regulations, and provide recommendations for trusted vendors.

Lake Como Wedding Planner and Wanderlust Wedding are two wedding planners that caught our attention when investigating a destination Italian wedding. Do some research and you will find a selection of highly recommended wedding planners from the area you settle on for your Italian wedding.

Legal Requirements

Familiarise yourself with the legal requirements for getting married in Italy. This includes obtaining the necessary documents, such as a Nulla Osta, and adhering to any specific regulations for foreigners marrying in the country. You may like to consider getting married legally here in Australia and having your ceremony and reception in Italy - this may alleviate the complexities of formalising your nuptials overseas as this can be a difficult process.

Communication is Key

Clear communication is essential when planning a destination wedding. Use email, video calls, and messaging apps to stay in touch with your Italian vendors and wedding planner. Establish a regular communication schedule to address any concerns or updates.

Embrace Italian Traditions

Embrace the rich cultural traditions of Italy by incorporating local customs into your wedding. This could include traditional Italian cuisine, music, or even a symbolic gesture like the "Unity in Sand" ceremony on the beaches of Italy.

Visit in Advance

If possible, plan a trip to Italy before the wedding to finalise details, meet with vendors, and explore the local area. This visit can help ease any anxieties and ensure that everything is in place for the big day.

Cater to Your Guests

Consider the logistics for your guests travelling from Australia. Provide them with detailed information on accommodations, transportation, and any pre or post-wedding activities. Offering a welcome package with local tips and cultural insights can enhance their experience.

Flexible Planning

Be flexible and open-minded in your planning. Italian culture often embraces a relaxed pace, so be prepared for a more leisurely approach to certain aspects of the planning process.

Enjoy the Journey

Planning a wedding in Italy is an incredible journey. Embrace the experience, enjoy the process, and savour the anticipation of celebrating your love in one of the most romantic countries in the world.

Remember, with careful planning and a touch of Italian flair, your dream wedding in Italy can be a magical and unforgettable experience for both you and your guests. Buon viaggio e felice matrimonio! (Safe travels and happy marriage!)

2025 Engagement Ring Trends

As we delve into the latest trends for 2025, here are some of the most anticipated designs that you can bring to life with Morgan & Co Jewellery:

Maximalist Multi-Stones

This year, maximalist multi-stone engagement rings are set to make a significant impact. These rings feature multiple stones, often in different shapes and sizes, creating a dynamic and visually striking finish. This trend is perfect for those who want a ring that stands out and reflects their unique personality. Our stunning Lucy is the perfect Toi et Moi, multi-stone ring featuring a marquise and pear diamond in a claw setting.

Marquise Shapes

Marquise-shaped diamonds are predicted to be one of the hottest engagement ring shapes of 2025. This elongated shape, with its pointed edges, is not only finger-flattering but also incredibly versatile. It can be set in various ways, including prong and bezel settings, making it a favourite among those seeking a unique and personalised design.

Half Bezels

Half bezel set engagement rings are another trend gaining traction. This setting style combines the security of a bezel with the elegance of a prong setting, offering a modern twist on traditional designs. It's ideal for those who want a ring that is both stylish and secure

Vintage Cuts and Designs

Vintage-inspired designs are making a strong comeback in 2025. These rings draw inspiration from past eras such as Art Deco, Victorian, and Edwardian, offering timeless elegance and old-world charm. Morgan & Co Jewellery can help you create a vintage-inspired piece that is both romantic and unique.

Diamond Clusters

Diamond clusters, or halo engagement rings, particularly those featuring mixed setting styles and hybrid designs, are becoming increasingly popular. These rings often feature a central stone surrounded by smaller stones, creating a trefoil or other cluster designs that are both visually striking and meaningful

Architectural Designs

For the more adventurous, architectural designs are a trend to watch. These rings feature geometric stones on thick bands, creating an architectural look that is both modern and meaningful. This trend reflects a growing appreciation for engagement rings that challenge conventional ideas and feel connected to something larger, like architecture or the urban landscape

Bold Colour and Coloured Gemstones

Bold and colourful centre stones are also on the rise. Couples are looking for rings that reflect their personal style and story, and coloured gemstones offer a distinctive way to express this. Whether it's a bright sapphire or an emerald, Morgan & Co Jewellery can help you incorporate these vibrant stones into your engagement ring.

Asymmetry and Cocktail Style

Asymmetrical and cocktail-style engagement rings are gaining popularity as couples seek unique and individualised designs. These rings often feature oversized and coloured stones, showcasing stunning craftsmanship and artistic flair. They are perfect for those who want a ring that stands out and has a heirloom feel.
