Taylor Swift vs Cristiano Ronaldo: Engagement Ring Edition

Taylor Swift vs Cristiano Ronaldo: Engagement Ring Edition

When it comes to engagement rings, no two icons could embody contrast more than Taylor Swift and Cristiano Ronaldo. Both recently made headlines with their engagement news, and their ring choices highlight two very different approaches to love’s most enduring symbol.

Taylor Swift — The Old Mine Cut Romantic

Taylor Swift’s engagement ring is estimated at over $1 million, featuring a rare Old Mine cut diamond. This antique style—hand-cut in the 18th and 19th centuries—offers a softer, candlelight sparkle and a sense of history. It’s for those who lean into romance, artistry, and individuality, favouring sentiment and story over uniform perfection.

Choosing a ring inspired by Taylor means you’re drawn to:

  • Diamonds with character—unique faceting, antique cuts, or asymmetry.

  • Pieces that feel like modern heirlooms.

  • Designs that carry emotion and legacy as much as brilliance.

Cristiano Ronaldo — The Modern Power Statement

Cristiano Ronaldo proposed with a radiant-cut diamond ring, bold and contemporary. A radiant diamond blends the sleek geometry of an emerald cut with the brilliance of a round, making it dazzling yet strikingly modern. His choice reflects confidence, precision, and strength—a perfect pairing of tradition and status.

Choosing a ring in Ronaldo’s style means you’re drawn to:

  • Clean lines and bold symmetry.

  • Diamonds that maximise fire and brilliance.

  • Designs that make a statement and stand unmistakably in the present.

Two Icons, Two Styles

So—which one are you?

The romantic allure of Taylor’s vintage-inspired Old Mine cut, or the powerful brilliance of Ronaldo’s radiant diamond?

Morgan & Co — Crafting Your Iconic Ring

At Morgan & Co, we believe your engagement ring should echo your story—whether it’s timeless romance, bold modernity, or something entirely your own. We source both natural and lab-grown diamonds, including rare antique cuts like the Old Mine, as well as modern dazzlers like radiant and oval shapes. Every piece is custom-crafted within your budget, ensuring that the ring you wear feels as iconic as the love it represents.

The Engagement Ring Redefining Modern Romance: Taylor Swift’s Old Mine Cut Diamond

The Engagement Ring Redefining Modern Romance: Taylor Swift’s Old Mine Cut Diamond

When news of Taylor Swift’s engagement broke, all eyes turned to her dazzling Old Mine cut diamond. With an estimated value of over $1 million, her ring is a breathtaking nod to antique artistry — reviving interest in one of the most romantic diamond cuts of all time.

But while Taylor’s ring carries a celebrity price tag, the allure of an Old Mine cut isn’t reserved for the world’s biggest stars. Its beauty lies in its individuality: hand-cut facets, a soft cushion shape, and a glow that feels timeless yet deeply personal. These qualities can be translated into a design that reflects your story — without the need for a million-dollar budget.

So, how can you take inspiration from Taylor’s ring?

  • Choose an Old Mine cut diamond: Embrace the antique charm of this cut, either with a genuine antique stone or a newly cut cushion that nods to its heritage.

  • Play with scale: Taylor’s stone may be grand, but a smaller carat weight in the same cut still carries the same romance and individuality.

  • Focus on the setting: Her ring reportedly features a simple, refined band that lets the diamond shine. You might mirror this with a minimal solitaire, or add your own touch—like a fine pavé band for subtle sparkle.

  • Incorporate vintage details: Milgrain edges, a cathedral setting, or delicate claws can enhance the antique feel while keeping the design personal.

  • Experiment with metal choice: Platinum or yellow gold can both frame an Old Mine cut beautifully—your choice shifts the overall mood from modern sleek to warm vintage.

The essence is this: you don’t have to replicate Taylor’s ring exactly — you can capture its spirit. Whether through a hand-selected antique stone or a modern reinterpretation, the possibilities are as individual as you are.

Old Mine Cut Diamonds: A Return to Romance

In a world where precision rules and symmetry defines modern jewellery, the Old Mine Cut diamond is making a quiet yet powerful return. With its soft edges, glowing facets, and unmistakable charm, this antique cut speaks to those who value individuality, heritage, and enduring beauty.

What is an Old Mine Cut?

The Old Mine Cut dates back to the 1700s and remained a favourite until the late 1800s. Long before advanced cutting technology, each diamond was shaped entirely by hand. The result? Cushion-like silhouettes, high crowns, small tables, and a visible culet—a look that feels worlds away from the flawless brilliance of today’s modern cuts.

These diamonds were designed to capture the warm flicker of candlelight rather than the sharp sparkle of electric lighting, giving them a softer, more romantic glow. No two are alike, and this uniqueness is exactly what has made them so desirable in recent years.

Why They’re Resurfacing

Antique and vintage-inspired jewellery has found a new audience among modern couples. The Old Mine Cut, with its artisanal origins, offers a connection to the past that feels both rare and deeply personal. Celebrities and style icons have only accelerated this resurgence, choosing Old Mine Cut diamonds for their individuality and character over the uniform perfection of contemporary cuts.

Old Meets New

At Morgan & Co, we see the Old Mine Cut not as a trend but as a timeless expression of artistry. For clients seeking a design that balances heritage with modern craftsmanship, this cut is a perfect choice. Whether set in a classic solitaire or framed with contemporary detailing, an Old Mine Cut diamond offers a story that is as unique as the couple who wears it.

The Modern Heirloom

With every Old Mine Cut diamond, you’re not just choosing a ring—you’re choosing history. Each facet tells of a time when jewellery was made with patience, intention, and character. It’s this depth of story that transforms a diamond into a true heirloom, designed to be treasured for generations.

Our Process

At Morgan & Co, we pride ourselves on sourcing diamonds that truly align with your vision, values, and budget. Our network allows us to find both natural and lab-grown Old Mine cut diamonds — whether reclaimed antique treasures or newly cut in historic proportions. Each stone is carefully selected for its character and charm, ensuring that your ring tells a story as unique as yours. From there, we work with you to design a custom piece that balances beauty, craftsmanship, and practicality, while keeping your budget in mind. The result is not just a ring, but a meaningful heirloom that carries forward the romance of the Old Mine cut in a way that feels deeply personal and entirely your own. Taylor Swift Just Said Yes — And Put Old Mine Cut Diamonds Back in the Spotlight

Taylor Swift Just Said Yes — And Put Old Mine Cut Diamonds Back in the Spotlight

When Taylor Swift makes a move, the world takes notice. Her recent engagement, sealed with an old mine cut diamond, has not only captivated fans but reignited global fascination with antique diamonds. More than just a ring, it marks the revival of a cut steeped in history, artistry, and romance.

The Diamond That Defined an Era

The old mine cut dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries, when each diamond was shaped by hand, often by candlelight. Cutters worked with the natural form of the stone, creating gems with:

  • A cushion-like silhouette, softly rounded and organic

  • A higher crown and small table, giving depth and dimension

  • A visible culet—the tiny facet at the base that sets antique stones apart

  • Larger, fewer facets, producing a warm glow more like candlelight than the sharp sparkle of today’s brilliant cuts

Every old mine cut carries subtle asymmetries, the mark of human craftsmanship and individuality. This is what makes them so sought after: no two are ever alike.

Taylor Swifts's Engagement Ring: A Modern Love Story with Vintage Soul

Taylor’s engagement ring perfectly embodies the romance of the old mine cut. Her diamond is an elongated cushion shape, set in a vintage-inspired setting with filigree detail and a yellow gold band. The design feels both regal and nostalgic, echoing eras gone by while making a bold statement for today.

It’s a ring that feels intentional, meaningful, and timeless — just like the woman herself.

Why Taylor’s Choice Matters

When one of the most influential women of our time chooses an old mine cut, it signals more than personal preference — it sets a cultural direction. We anticipate a growing desire for:

  • Rarity and authenticity – stones that feel storied, soulful, and unique

  • Heritage-inspired design – jewellery that connects us to history

  • Individuality over perfection – a celebration of character, not uniformity

Taylor’s ring speaks to a collective yearning for meaning and depth in the objects we hold closest.

A Modern Revival

At Morgan & Co, we see this as the beginning of a new chapter for antique-inspired jewellery. Old mine cuts, whether sourced as genuine antiques or newly cut in their historic proportions, offer clients something extraordinary:

  • Scarcity as luxury – their limited availability ensures long-term value

  • Sustainability – many are reclaimed from historic pieces, giving new life to old treasures

  • Modern heirlooms – designs created with the intention of being worn, loved, and passed on

This is jewellery with presence—pieces that stand apart from the uniform brilliance of mass-market diamonds.

FAQs About Old Mine Cut Diamonds

Are old mine cut diamonds rare?
Yes — genuine old mine cuts are increasingly rare since they were hand-cut in the 1700s–1800s. Their scarcity adds to their value and appeal.

Can I buy a newly cut old mine style diamond?
Absolutely. Some cutters today recreate the historic proportions of old mine cuts, offering the romance of the original style with the option of a modern diamond.

Do old mine cut diamonds sparkle less than modern cuts?
They sparkle differently. Instead of the sharp, intense flashes of a modern brilliant, old mine cuts offer a softer, more romantic glow — perfect for those who love character and individuality.

Are they more affordable than modern cuts?
Not necessarily. Because of their rarity and growing demand, antique old mine cuts can be just as valuable, if not more, than modern brilliant cuts.

Can you get a lab grown old mine cut diamond?

Yes, old mine cut diamonds come in lab grown diamonds also. They are more expensive than your typical cut diamond in both lab and natural diamonds.

The Morgan & Co Perspective

Our design philosophy has always been to create modern heirlooms: pieces that transcend trend and carry meaning across generations. Old mine cut diamonds embody this perfectly — steeped in history, yet entirely relevant to the modern moment.

Taylor Swift’s engagement has placed them firmly back in the spotlight, but their true appeal lies in something deeper: romance, rarity, and the kind of artistry that never fades.

The Lab-Grown Radiant Diamond: A Simple 5-Minute Guide

The Lab-Grown Radiant Diamond: A Simple 5-Minute Guide

Radiant cut diamonds are where clean lines meet serious sparkle. Think the elegant rectangle of an emerald cut, but with lively, brilliant flashes. In lab grown, you get the same beauty and durability with excellent value and clear, modern sourcing. Here’s our guide to help you decide if a radiant is “the one.” View our full collection of radiant cut diamonds, made on the Sunshine Coast, here.

What is a radiant cut?

A radiant is a square or rectangular diamond with softly cropped corners. Those corners add strength for everyday wear, and the brilliant faceting gives it the “fireworks” people love. It looks sleek from the top and glittery from every angle.

Why people love it

  • Slimming, elongated look on the finger

  • Big sparkle without sharp, snaggy points

  • Looks larger face-up than many shapes of the same weight

  • Works with almost every setting style

Why go lab-grown?

Lab-grown diamond is real diamond with the same hardness, same sparkle but grown above ground. The appeal:

  • More size for your budget

  • Independent grading (IGI/GIA) and laser inscription for peace of mind

  • Modern, transparent sourcing with suppliers we’ve vetted

Is a radiant right for you?

Choose a radiant if you want:

  • A clean, modern shape that still throws lots of sparkle

  • A design that’s practical for daily wear (thanks to those cropped corners)

  • A stone that looks impressive on the hand without needing a bulky setting

Colour, clarity & what actually matters

Skip the jargon. Here’s the easy version:

  • Colour: In white metals (platinum/white gold), choose icy tones. In yellow or rose, soft warmth can look beautiful. We’ll help you find what suits your skin tone and metal choice.

  • Clarity: Aim for eye-clean no visible marks to the naked eye. You don’t need a loupe-clean stone to enjoy a flawless look day to day.

  • Light performance: You want a diamond that looks bright from edge to edge and dances when it moves. We check this in different lighting so you don’t have to guess.

Setting styles that flatter radiants

Solitaires

  • Four corner claws for a crisp, classic look

  • Cathedral shoulders for lift and protection

  • Full bezel for a sleek, low-profile, everyday ring

  • East to west setting

  • Claw set, north to south

  • Halos

  • A fine micro-pavé halo mirrors the cropped corners and adds presence

  • A hidden halo sits under the centre stone for side sparkle without changing the top view

  • Three-Stone

  • Tapered baguettes or trapezoids echo the radiant’s geometry and make the centre look even larger

Metal Options For Your Radiant Diamond

  • Platinum/white gold = brightest, cooler look

  • Yellow/rose gold = warm, romantic tone

  • Two-tone (white head + yellow band) keeps the stone bright and the band warm—one of our studio favourites

Make your wedding band fit perfectly (no surprises later)

The most common regret we fix is an engagement ring that won’t sit with a straight band. We plan this from the start:

  • Prefer a straight band? We’ll design a compact basket and the right height so everything sits flush.

  • Love an ultra-low setting? We’ll sketch a gentle contour band that hugs the radiant neatly.

  • Hard on your hands? We’ll recommend a bezel or a slightly sturdier profile so your ring stays beautiful for years.

How we help you choose (our 60-minute process)

  1. Style discovery – Try mosaic vs crushed-ice radiants under daylight and spotlights.

  2. Shortlist – We present a handful of IGI/GIA-graded stones, with clear videos and millimetre measurements (so you know the actual coverage on your finger).

  3. Design – Pick metal, band shape, prong or bezel, and plan the wedding-band fit now—not later.

  4. CAD & confirm – We show your ring from every angle and tweak proportions before we cast.

  5. Craft & care – Your ring is set, finished, and checked for alignment, security, and sparkle.

Care made easy

  • Soak in warm water with a little gentle detergent, brush softly underneath, rinse and pat dry.

  • Pop in for professional checks on claws and pavé; we’ll advise if ultrasonic/steam is right for your specific ring.

Quick answers

Q: Is lab-grown as durable as natural?
A: Yes — diamond is diamond, with the same top hardness for daily wear.

Q: Will a radiant show a “bow-tie” shadow?
A: Sometimes a faint one; we choose stones where it softens or disappears in motion.

Q:What if I’m between two stones?
A: Choose the one that looks brighter and more alive on your hand. Your eye will tell you.

Ready to design your radiant?

Oval Engagement Rings: Classic Style with Modern Appeal

Oval Engagement Rings: Classic Style with Modern Appeal

There’s something undeniably romantic about an oval-cut diamond. With its graceful, elongated shape and timeless brilliance, the oval has become one of the most sought-after cuts for modern engagement rings — and for good reason.

At Morgan & Co, we often guide clients who are drawn to this particular shape but aren’t sure why. More often than not, it comes down to a blend of elegance, practicality, and that little bit of visual magic an oval-cut brings.

The Allure of the Oval-Cut

Oval diamonds are essentially a stretched version of the round brilliant cut. They have 56 to 58 facets, which means they reflect light beautifully and offer a similar sparkle to a round diamond, but with a longer silhouette. This elongated form creates the illusion of a larger diamond and can make fingers appear longer and more slender.

Whether you’re after something classic, romantic, or a little more contemporary, the oval-cut lends itself to a variety of settings and styles. It works beautifully in solitaire settings, halo designs, or set east-west for a modern twist.

Why Our Clients Love the Oval

We’ve noticed a growing number of Morgan & Co clients leaning towards the oval-cut in recent years. It’s versatile, distinctive, and strikes the perfect balance between tradition and individuality. The elongated shape gives it an ethereal, almost vintage feel, while the brilliant faceting makes it ideal for those who still want a bit of sparkle.

Some of the reasons clients choose an oval-cut diamond include:

  • Visual impact: Appears larger than a round diamond of the same carat weight.

  • Finger-flattering: Its length has a slimming effect on the hand.

  • Sparkle: The faceting offers incredible brilliance, rivaling that of round diamonds.

  • Uniqueness: While gaining popularity, it’s still less common than rounds, making it feel a little more individual.

Oval Diamond Setting Options

An oval diamond is one of the most versatile shapes, and the way it’s set can completely transform its look and feel.

Solitaire Setting

The solitaire oval diamond is the most timeless choice for an oval diamond. Its simplicity allows the elongated shape to take centre stage, creating a clean and elegant look that never goes out of style.

Halo Setting

A halo oval engagement ring adds a ring of smaller diamonds around the oval, enhancing its brilliance and giving the illusion of a larger centre stone. This design is perfect for those who love maximum sparkle.

Three-Stone Setting

Pairing the oval with two side stones creates a meaningful design symbolising the past, present, and future. The side stones can be smaller ovals, pears, or even baguettes for a more modern feel. View our favourite three stone oval, accompanied by to pear cut diamonds here

Pavé or Diamond Band

For subtle shimmer, a pavé or diamond-encrusted band with your oval diamond adds sparkle along the ring shank. This enhances the centre stone without overpowering it, creating a romantic and refined look.

East-West Setting

A contemporary twist, the east-west oval style places the oval diamond horizontally across the finger. It’s modern, fashion-forward, and ideal for someone wanting something unique.

Hidden Halo or Basket Details

Adding a hidden halo to your oval engagement ring, or considering an intricate basket design, gives extra sparkle and character from unexpected angles. It’s a subtle yet personal way to make the ring feel one-of-a-kind.

Our Custom Design Process

Choosing your engagement ring is a deeply personal experience, and at Morgan & Co., we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

Whether you walk through the doors of our Buderim studio or connect with us via Zoom, the process always begins with you — your story, your style, your vision.

Here’s how it works:

1. Initial Consultation
We start with a one-on-one consultation — either in person or virtually — to understand your vision, budget, lifestyle, and timeline. If you’re not sure what you want yet, we’ll explore ideas together and help you find the perfect direction.

2. Diamond or Gemstone Selection
Once we’ve discussed your preferences, we source a curated selection of high-quality diamonds (natural or lab-grown) tailored to your priorities — including shape, colour, clarity, and budget. Every stone we offer is certified, and we’ll talk you through the finer details so you feel confident in your choice.

3. Design & CAD
With your diamond selected, we move into the design phase. You’ll receive a CAD rendering of your ring — a realistic 3D visualisation that shows how your chosen stone will sit in your setting. This is where you can review the design, make any adjustments, and ensure the proportions, setting height, and band details are perfect.

4. Final Approval & Production
Once you’re happy with the design, we move into production. All of our pieces are handcrafted locally using high-quality materials and traditional techniques. Turnaround times typically range from 6–8 weeks, but we’ll always provide a clear timeline based on your proposal date.

5. The Reveal
When your ring is ready, we’ll invite you back in for the big reveal — or ship your ring securely if you’re based further away. You’ll receive your finished piece in our signature Morgan & Co packaging, ready for your perfect proposal moment.

FAQ: Oval-Cut Diamonds

Q: Are oval diamonds more affordable than round diamonds?
Yes, generally speaking, oval diamonds are around 10–20% more affordable than round diamonds of the same carat weight and quality. Their elongated shape also gives the illusion of greater size, which is a nice bonus.

Q: Do oval diamonds show a ‘bowtie effect’?
Most oval diamonds will show some degree of bowtie (a shadow or dark area across the centre), but a well-cut oval will minimise this. When sourcing stones, we carefully review every diamond to ensure minimal bowtie and beautiful light performance.

Q: What’s the best setting for an oval diamond?
That depends on your style! Oval diamonds look stunning in a classic solitaire, a hidden halo for a subtle sparkle, or with side stones like pear or trapezoid diamonds. We’ll help you find the perfect setting to suit your lifestyle and engagement ring goals.

Q: Can oval diamonds be paired with wedding bands easily?
Yes, but the setting height matters. That’s why we always consider your future wedding band plans when designing your engagement ring — ensuring the two sit beautifully together without compromising comfort or aesthetics.

Q: Can I customise an oval-cut ring to suit my budget?
Absolutely. We work closely with our clients to create designs that suit a wide range of budgets. Lab-grown oval diamonds are an excellent option for those wanting size and sparkle without compromising on quality.

An Art Gallery Full of Love: Jess & Macy’s Engagement Story

An Art Gallery Full of Love: Jess & Macy’s Engagement Story

Some love stories are gentle in their beginnings, others come in like a wave — and Jess and Macy’s is a little bit of both. From the moment they met, there was an undeniable sense of “end game,” a connection so natural that it felt like they had been searching for each other all along. Over two and a half years, their relationship has grown from spontaneous adventures to intentional plans for a shared future. So, when it came time for Jess to propose, she knew it had to be more than just a question — it had to be an experience. The result? A breathtaking surprise in an art gallery, surrounded by custom paintings capturing their most cherished memories, friends and family, and the kind of joy that you can only feel when you know you’ve found your forever.

We asked Jess & Macy about their life together, and we’re so excited to share their heartfelt answers with you.

The Beginning

Q: How did the two of you meet?

A: "We both dated the same woman previous to meeting and bonded over our shared
experience."

Q: How long have you been together?

A: "2.5 years"

Q: What drew you to each other in the beginning — and what do you love most about each other now?

Jess:
"1. I saw myself in Macy and felt an immediate calmness in that we were so similar. I think we have always had such a similar personality, but very different natures. We compliment each other extremely well. We are both such passionate and intense people. I have never had to doubt whether I am too much for Macy, because I know she has always wanted me as much as I have wanted her. We are both all or nothing type of people, and it was always all for the both of us. We knew from the beginning that we were each other's end game.

2. I love how our relationship has developed from playful and spontaneous to a little more serious; Planning our future, lives, and business together. I love how we have watched each other grow and evolve over the years, and our love continues to grow."

Macy:
"1. Growing up, I thought about the kind of person my perfect partner would be; Upon
meeting Jess, I realised she fit that exactly. After unfortunate past experiences, I promised to never settle for less in the person I would spend my whole life with, and Jess has been able to provide me with the genuine love, care, patience, and understanding I always dreamt of.

2. I love how gentle Jess is with me all the time. I love the way she is willing to grow with me."

The Proposal

Q: Jess, what inspired the idea of proposing in an art gallery?

A: "I actually saw a picture of someone proposing in a forest, with polaroid pictures of them strung around the trees, and this got me thinking. Macy also would talk about this talented artist we followed on instagram, and always talked about how she wanted paintings by her done at some point in the future. This concreted the idea in my mind. I reached out to the artist almost a year in advance, and had her start commissioning the paintings. She worked tirelessly for 11 months to perfect the paintings. Everything was kept a complete secret from Macy the entire time. She has no idea what was going on."

Q: Tell us more about the custom paintings — what moments did they capture, and how did you choose them?

A: "All the paintings were done in oil by an extremely talented 17 year old girl named Natalia. She is in grade 12 on the sunshine coast, and still managed to find the time to capture our souls so beautifully. Most of the pictures that have been painted were taken of us on our trip to South Africa last year. I went for pictures that held the most significant amount of memories. For example, one of the pictures was taken under these stunning trees on a bridge in South Africa, you can see us both just embracing each other and taking the moment in. It was our first day in South Africa after landing the night before, and we were both just so shocked and excited that we
had actually pulled the trip off. It was definitely a pivotal time in our relationship, and we came home from this trip with a completely different perspective of life. The trip matured us in so many different ways. It showed us parts of the world that we did not know existed, and brought us closer than ever before. So I guess in a way, this particular photo was captured on the first day of our lives forever changing, and I just think that is such a special part of our story to have painted for us to hold onto forever."

Q: Macy, what was going through your mind when you walked into the gallery?

A: "How did she pull this off — What did I do so right to deserve someone like her? I am so lucky, loved, and so full of love for her. Jess had me close my eyes for the entire drive on the way to “dinner”, so I knew at that point it would be the night she proposed. I was so nervous as she walked me up to the door (still with my eyes closed); I had no idea where I was or what to expect. When she finally had me open my eyes to see the gallery I was just overcome with emotion. I felt so excited, through my tears I could barely even talk. She did so perfectly."

Q: What were your favourite details or memories from the proposal?

Macy: "Firstly, the entire gallery of artwork of course. Jess arranged for my sister, Shaniah, to be there and come out from another room to surprise me afterwards. Jess also arranged for an entire engagement party to begin after the proposal with our friends and family all in attendance. Our best friends arriving a little earlier too to celebrate was such a joy for me. The roof was draped with flowers, there were orchids, roses, native flowers and eucalyptus — It was incredible. I had so much fun choosing the music throughout the night and dancing together with our family and friends.
My favourite detail of the night though, was easily just being with my [now] fiancé, Jess. She looked so beautiful — She really is the genuine love of my life and I cannot wait for her to be my wife."

Jess: "My favourite memory is when Macy first walked into the gallery and I had her open her eyes. We both just started crying immediately. It was such a surreal experience to actually be standing there taking it all in with her for the first time. Actually seeing everything come to life and being able to relax and show her what I had been hiding from her for an entire year. Then walking around the gallery with just the two of us, examining every detail hand in hand."

Q: Jess, did anyone help you pull off the surprise?

A: "I had the most amazing support system during the orchestration of it all. There were so many different areas of the surprise where people really came together to help me pull it off. I was able to trust Natalia with the creation of the artworks for the whole year of planning, and really just let her do her thing. Macy’s mum Christine, and Macy's sister, Shaniah, along with her partner Simon came through for me on the day of the engagement, and helped me cater, and set everything up. Our best friend Milly put together so many flower arrangements to place around the gallery, whilst my beautiful florist Tegan from Olive Collective created the most breathtaking flower installation suspended from the ceiling. Tegan worked all night on the day before the proposal to ensure everything was absolutely perfect. The list of people that pulled through for me and helped put everything together to make this happen is endless, and I am forever grateful to be surrounded by such love."

The Ring

Q: What made you choose Morgan & Co for the ring?

A: "I actually posted on the facebook girls group asking for the best jewellers on the Sunny Coast, and a large majority recommended Morgan & Co. I called Laura the next day and had a chat over the phone. After we spoke I immediately booked a consultation. I knew based on the phone call they were who I wanted to design the ring."

Q: Tell us about the ring! (We’d love to hear what you loved about the design, stone, or any details that made it feel like ‘you’)

A: "Macy and I’s personal favourite feature of the ring is the flat band. It sits so flush and beautifully on Macy’s hand, and compliments the diamond so well."

The Future

Q: Have you started planning the wedding yet?

A: "Yes! We are planning for next year in September. We are undecided on the vibe of the wedding as of yet. We are feeling torn between something on a large scale, or something more intimate."

Q: What does the next chapter look like for you two? Any big plans ahead (travel, moving, wedding ideas)?

A: "We have a bit of travel planned in the next 6-months. We will be heading to Europe in October as well as Melbourne in December. I'm sure there will also be countless trips to wedding venues and much more wedding related activities in the next year."

Q: If you had any advice for couples planning a proposal or choosing a ring, what would it be?

A: "I would say take your time. If you know you're sure you want to marry this person, then there shouldn't be any rush to propose. People take years to plan weddings, and I think a proposal should be of a similar nature. This is a huge monumental moment for you and your partner, so you have to get it right. Take your time. Listen to your partner's cues. Really focus on the vision. Make sure you're not just creating your preferred proposal, but what your partner would want as well. Basically just listen. Stay attentive, and really know your partner."

Thank You

Jess and Macy’s proposal wasn’t just about a ring or a perfect setting — it was about creating a moment that reflected who they are together: thoughtful, creative, deeply connected, and full of laughter. It’s the kind of love that inspires everyone who hears their story, and we couldn’t be more honoured to have played a part in it. From the first phone call to the moment the ring slipped onto Macy’s finger, we’ve been in awe of the intentionality and care woven into every detail. Here’s to their next chapter—wedding plans, travels, and all the adventures still to come. And to Jess and Macy: thank you for letting us share in your beginning. We have no doubt the rest of your story will be just as extraordinary.

With love,
Morgan & Laura xo

From Celebration to Creation: Marking My Daughter’s Birthday with a One-of-a-Kind Piece

From Celebration to Creation: Marking My Daughter’s Birthday with a One-of-a-Kind Piece

As Morgan’s next celebration approached, I wanted to craft something that captured all the ways she brightens our studio, drives our business forward, and fills our family with warmth.

The result? A one of a kind ring designed to echo her favourite autumn-toned palette and to whisper, every time it catches the light, just how fiercely she is loved and appreciated.

I’ve always known Morgan is drawn to autumnal hues, the burnished browns and forest deep greens that feel both grounding and elegant. So when we wandered through the Sydney Jewellery Fair one year and she paused before a dress ring crowned with a velvety brown quartz, I wasn’t the least bit surprised.

I tucked the memory of that ring safely away, quietly vowing that when the time was right I’d craft a piece of my own that would echo its autumnal magic while carrying a deeper, more personal story between mother and daughter.

April is Morgan’s birthday month, this was the time to create a gift she would love, so one evening I opened the sketchbook and ran through a stack of concepts built around Morgan’s preference for rounded bands and clean curves. I eliminated any detail that cluttered the design and re-sketched many times before the final concept came to light.

From Sketchbook to Setting

Unlike many jewellers who begin with a gemstone and build the setting around it, I tackle the metalwork first, letting its proportions dictate both the stone’s shape and its eventual placement. Hours slipped by as I tested angles, refined band thickness, and rejected sketches that looked beautiful on paper but would feel awkward on a hand. When the curves finally balanced — neither too delicate nor too heavy — I knew the design was ready for the perfect centre stone.

On another quiet evening, I filled page after page with the rounded silhouettes Morgan loves. Anything that cluttered the profile was struck out; only the cleanest lines remained. Because I always design from metal outward, the finished setting demanded a single, elegant oval ready to cradle a stone that could match its graceful embrace.

The Gemstone

With an oval seat waiting, it was time to pick the stone. The choice came down to:

  1. Smoky Quartz – Pleasing depth but modest brilliance.

  2. Brown Tourmaline – Rich body colour yet less optical fire.

  3. Cognac Zircon – Whisky-toned, double-refractive sparkle that could light up a room.

I knew oval was the shape, this was dictated by the design. I settled on a brown palette and lined up the candidates, smoky quartz, brown tourmaline and cognac zircon. Cognac zircon won out, its high refractive index packs extra fire into a low-profile oval, exactly what the setting demanded.

Zircon’s optical index (1.81–2.02) meant it would throw rainbow flashes even in a slim, everyday setting exactly what the final design demanded. I hunted specifically for cognac-toned material without red undertones so the ring would read warm, not fiery.

More Information about Zircons

Zircon is one of the most versatile colour gemstones on the market. Natural hues (often intensified or shifted by gentle heat treatment) span the entire autumn-to-rainbow spectrum:

  • Colourless/“White” – brilliant, diamond-like sparkle

  • Ice- or Sky-Blue – the classic heat-treated Sri Lankan blue

  • Mint to Forest Green – rarer, sometimes with a slight yellow cast

  • Lemon to Golden Yellow – bright, sun-touched tones

  • Honey, Champagne & Butterscotch – warm neutrals that bridge yellow and brown

  • Cognac & Chocolate Brown – deep, whisky-rich shades (my target family)

  • Orange & Tangerine – vivid autumn leaves

  • Pink to Rosé – soft blush through medium rose

  • Lilac to Violet – delicate purples, occasionally pastel grey-lavender

  • Brick to Fiery Red – bold, seldom seen in clean stones

For Morgan’s ring I narrowed the search to a cognac zircon, a rich brown that shows lively flashes without drifting into orange or brick red territory. Specifically, I looked for stones whose body colour stays firmly in the whisky amber range, with no strong red undertones, so the final piece would keep the sophisticated, earthy warmth Morgan loves.

How I sourced the Stone, what was most important to me

Ethics First

Traceability: Partnered with a Sri Lankan dealer who documents mine-to-market provenance.

Gemological Verification: Every stone goes through independent testing — refractive index, birefringence, and a spectroscopy scan to rule out colour-altering treatments beyond gentle heat.

Cut Grade: Only an excellent oval would maximise zircon’s natural dispersion.

Creating the CAD

How Morgan’s Ring Moved from Idea to Reality

My Sketch Goes Digital: I had our CAD team create the CAD and render — think of it as turning the paper drawing into a 3-D picture on screen.

3-D Model Takes Shape: The band and stone setting are “built” in the software so we can see exactly how thick, smooth, and comfortable everything will be.

Preview/Render: I
generated lifelike images of the ring in yellow gold.

Wax Print & Metal Cast: A tiny wax version is 3-D-printed, then used to form a mould. Molten gold (or platinum) is poured in, replacing the wax with real metal.

Polish & Stone-Setting: The cast ring is cleaned, polished, and the gemstone is hand secured by our skilled jewellers. After one final inspection, it’s ready for Morgan to wear.

Final Thoughts

For the ring I personally sought out a richly hued cognac zircon, its oval facet pattern chosen to echo both warmth and sophistication and designed a bespoke setting that cradles the gem like a hug only a mother can give. Every stage, from tracing the gem back to an ethically responsible miner to refining its cut for maximum fire, became a quiet meditation on the countless late nights Morgan spends perfecting client sketches and guiding our atelier.

The finished piece is more than jewellery; it is a tangible thank you, shimmering with gratitude and admiration, reminding her each time it catches the light that the heart of our business beats strongest because of her tireless passion.

Happy Birthday, Morgan.

With Love,
Your Mum xo

Celebrating love, milestones, and quiet moments at Morgan & Co

Celebrating love, milestones, and quiet moments at Morgan & Co

At Morgan & Co, we’re lucky to witness love in all its forms — not just in grand beginnings, but in the chapters that follow. Stephanie and Ford are one of those couples who remind us that love doesn’t stop growing after “I do.” In fact, sometimes, the most meaningful gestures come years later — unexpected, but deeply felt.

Stephanie and Ford have been married for years. A decade of shared memories, late-night laughs, and life’s gentle chaos. Recently, they welcomed their second baby, little Cora — a sweet new chapter in their lives and a moment that called for something extra special.

Stephanie had long dreamt of an eternity band — something to sit alongside her engagement and wedding rings, representing everything they’ve built together. So, he came to us.

From the beginning, his intentions were thoughtful and quietly romantic. He wasn’t planning a proposal or trying to recreate a moment already past. This was different —something beautifully simple: a gift to honour a woman he’s loved for years, and the life they continue to build together.

When he came into the studio to collect the ring, there was a calm sort of joy in the air. We chatted about the design — an elegant, diamond-set band with timeless sparkle —and he shared that he’d be giving it to her that evening, on the beach. No grand declarations. Just the two of them, the sea, and a moment of reflection and love.

He had a photographer there to capture it all. And yes —h e knelt down, as if instinctively. Stephanie laughed, catching on immediately. “It’s not a proposal!” she said, smiling. They both burst into laughter, wrapped in the kind of playful joy that comes from knowing someone fully, deeply.

That’s what we love about stories like these. They’re not about big beginnings. They’re about the ongoing, evolving nature of love — the moments you don’t have to plan, but choose to create anyway. The ones that say, “I still choose you,” even when the world around you is busy and full.

Stephanie’s eternity ring now sits proudly on her finger, a sparkling reminder of everything they’ve shared — and everything that’s still to come.

We were honoured to play a small part in that moment.

The Biggest Engagement Ring Mistakes (and How Morgan & Co Can Help You Avoid Them)

The Biggest Engagement Ring Mistakes (and How Morgan & Co Can Help You Avoid Them)

When love is in the air and a proposal is on the horizon, the excitement of choosing an engagement ring can quickly turn into overwhelm. In the rush to “get it right,” many men make one massive mistake: they purchase a ring without first consulting a trusted, bespoke jeweller like Morgan  & Co.

Below, we break down why skipping an expert consultation so often leads to disappointment — and how you can avoid it.

Prioritising the “4 Cs” Over Personal Style & Lifestyle

Most big‑box jewellers teach you to focus on colour, clarity, carat, and cut. While those metrics matter, they don’t tell the whole story.

  • Design harmony: An oval centre stone with a cathedral setting may be flawless on paper, yet overpower your partner’s delicate fingers.

  • Future maintenance: Certain settings demand more upkeep (think frequent tightening or rhodium plating) than others.

Morgan & Co’s difference

Our consultations begin with your story, daily routines, aesthetic preferences, future plans then translate that into a design that looks spectacular and lives comfortably on your partner’s hand for decades.

You Miss Out on Custom Design Opportunities

Walk in retailers typically offer off the shelf designs or minor tweaks (e.g., swap rose for yellow gold). That limits creativity and often forces you to settle for “close enough.”

Morgan & Co’s difference

From CAD renders and diamond sourcing to micro adjustments that guarantee a wedding band sits flush with the engagement ring, we engineer every detail. You leave with a one of a kind heirloom with personal meaning, not a catalogue compromise.

You Overlook Long‑Term Value & Ethical Sourcing

Chain stores can obscure diamond provenance or promote inflated “sale” pricing. Couples end up paying more for stones of poorer quality, uncertified, or certified by a less reputable company.

Morgan & Co’s difference

We’re transparent about our supply chain, offering both ethically mined and certified lab‑grown diamonds. Plus, our in house diamond sources negotiate directly with cutters, meaning you keep the margin the middlemen usually takes.

Forget About After Sales Care

Repairs, resizing, and cleaning aren’t glamorous topics but they make or break your ring down the road. Retail outlets often outsource these services or charge premium service fees, or worse, send your ring overseas for resizing which takes weeks, sometimes months, to get back.

Morgan & Co’s difference

Every bespoke piece comes with complimentary inspections and in studio cleaning for life, priority repair turnaround, and upgrade options if your style evolves. Resizing takes as little as 10 working days. We’re in it for the long haul, just like your marriage.

Not Knowing to Leave Enough Clearance for the Dream Wedding Band

A gorgeous engagement ring can turn into a design headache if its setting sits too low  to accommodate a wedding band underneath.

  • The common scenario: You fall in love with a low set halo or hidden halo style. Months later, when you go to stack the perfect diamond band for your wedding, you discover it won’t sit flush leaving an awkward gap or forcing you to redesign the ring due to rubbing.

  • Future stacking woes: Many couples plan for anniversary or eternity bands down the track. Insufficient clearance on the engagement ring limits all those possibilities.

  • Extra cost & heartache: Resetting, adding a “ring spacer,” or re‑mounting the centre stone after the fact is far pricier than designing for band clearance from the start.

Morgan & Co’s difference

During your consultation, if you plan to have a larger style wedding band in the future, we draw up and CAD the entire bridal stack engagement ring, wedding band, and any planned future bands so you can see how the pieces nest together. We adjust seat height, under gallery curves, and shoulder angles to ensure a seamless fit and comfortable wear, now and 30 years from now. If you aren't sure what you would like as a future wedding band, we would recommend leaving enough room under your engagement ring setting for a standard diamond wedding band.

You Assume a Top Colour & Clarity Grade Guarantees Sparkle

It’s a shockingly common disappointment: you splurge on a D‑colour, VVS2 diamond, yet once it’s set, the stone looks dull. How can a “perfect” diamond lack fire?

  • Cut quality trumps everything. Even a D/VVS2 stone will appear lifeless if its proportions, angles, or polish are off.

  • Light performance isn’t on the grading report. Lab certificates rarely show how efficiently a stone returns light. Two diamonds with identical grades can look worlds apart in person.

  • Undisclosed issues. Milky or “cloudy” growth structures, fluorescence that negatively impacts appearance.

  • Misleading lighting. Retail jewellers often display diamonds under high intensity or niche spectrum lights that mask poor brilliance until you step outside.

Morgan & Co’s difference

We hand select diamonds for optical performance first and reject stones that look “sleepy,” no matter how amazing the certificate reads. We allow our clients to view their stone in natural light and if we source a diamond from overseas that we aren't 100% happy with, we will return it for a better stone free of charge. Our promise to you is that you and your partner leave completely happy with your engagement ring and we will not sell a diamond that our team wouldn't proudly wear ourselves.

The Bottom Line

The biggest mistake isn’t choosing the wrong diamond shape or metal, it's making the decision without expert, personalised guidance. Morgan & Co’s private studio consultations transform an intimidating purchase into a memorable experience.

Engagement Ring Trends We’re Loving in 2025

Engagement Ring Trends We’re Loving in 2025

If you’re newly engaged, planning a proposal, or simply dreaming of a forever ring — welcome. At Morgan & Co, we live and breathe timeless design, but we’re also inspired by the subtle shifts we see each year in the world of engagement rings.

Here are the standout trends we’re absolutely loving in 2025 — a beautiful balance of elegance, colour, and practicality.

1. Bezel Settings — Sleek, Safe, and So Sophisticated

We’ve seen a continual rise in the popularity of bezel settings — and it’s easy to see why. This sleek style encircles the centre stone in a rim of metal, giving a clean and modern look, while keeping the diamond extra secure (perfect for those with an active lifestyle).

What we love most? It brings a refined, almost vintage feel, but with a contemporary edge. Whether in yellow gold or platinum, bezels are having their moment — and they’re here to stay.

2. Yellow Oval Cut Diamond Rings — Bold, Golden Glamour

There’s something undeniably captivating about a yellow diamond. In 2025, oval cut yellow diamonds are leading the way. They’re sunny, celebratory, and effortlessly elegant — not to mention incredibly rare and unique.

The oval shape elongates the finger and maximises sparkle, while the yellow hue adds warmth and individuality. We’re seeing more clients choose these for their “something different” engagement rings.

3. Coloured Sapphires — Moody, Romantic, and One-of-a-Kind

While diamonds remain classic, coloured sapphires are quietly taking over — and we are here for it. From deep greens and icy blues to peachy pinks, sapphires offer a romantic alternative for those who want something unexpected.

They’re durable enough for everyday wear, making them perfect for engagement rings, and each one feels like a piece of art. Our clients are increasingly drawn to the idea of a ring that feels personal, and coloured gemstones are delivering exactly that.

4. Yellow Gold — The Forever Favourite

Yes, it’s official: yellow gold is still the metal of choice in 2025. Its rich, warm tone feels both nostalgic and luxurious — a classic that looks beautiful with diamonds, sapphires, and everything in between.

Whether you’re choosing a polished, high-shine band or a more matte, organic finish, yellow gold brings a softness and timelessness that’s hard to beat.

5. Elongated Cushion Cuts — Vintage with a Twist

Rounding out our favourites this year is the elongated cushion cut. It offers the soft, pillowy facets of a traditional cushion, but with a stretched silhouette that’s flattering and elegant on the hand.

It’s the perfect blend of old-world charm and modern refinement — especially stunning in solitaire settings or paired with a delicate diamond band.

Let’s Create What’s Next

Whether you’re drawn to bold colour, vintage charm, or something timeless and understated, 2025 is all about celebrating your style. At Morgan & Co, we design each ring with care, meaning, and intention — ensuring it reflects your story, not just a trend.

If you’re ready to begin your engagement ring journey, we’d love to welcome you into our Buderim studio for a personalised consultation. You can explore gemstones, view your ring design in 3D, and bring your vision to life — together.

The Top Two Questions Men Ask Before Buying an Engagement Ring

The Top Two Questions Men Ask Before Buying an Engagement Ring

Question 1: What Size Engagement Ring Should I Get without spoiling the surprise?

One of the most common and slightly nerve wracking questions we hear from soon-to-be proposers is:

“What size ring should I get for my partner?”

If you're planning a surprise proposal, it's completely normal to feel unsure — especially when you want everything to be perfect. But don't stress! At Morgan & Co Jewellery, we’re here to make the process easy, thoughtful, and totally discreet.

How can I find my girlfriend’s ring size without her knowing?

There are a few clever (and subtle) ways to do this:

1. Borrow a Ring She Already Wears

If she wears a ring on her left ring finger, even better — but most wear on the right hand or middle fingers. Sneak one out  and bring it to us or trace the inner/outer edge on paper. We can usually estimate the size from that.

2. Ask Her Friends or Family

Her best friend, sister, or mum might already know or be able to find out casually. Just make sure they can be trusted to keep the secret.

3. Compare Hands

Hold hands and casually compare finger size. If your pinky is the same size as her ring finger, we can estimate from yours.

4. Use a Ring Sizer While She Sleeps

There are printable ring sizers online, Morgan & Co offers a free plastic ring sizer you can use by gently trying it while she’s asleep. Tricky, but some brave partners have pulled it off!

What’s the average ring size for women?

In Australia, the average women's ring size is around size L to N. If you have no way to guess or check, starting at a size M is often a safe bet.

Here at Morgan & Co Jewellery we have a knack of being able to judge ring size just by looking at a picture of your partner. Not a hundred percent accrue measure but a good starting point.

We always recommend erring slightly larger rather than smaller, it’s easier to size down a ring than to resize it up, especially if there are diamonds on the band.

Plus we want the ring to go on her finger when you get down on your knee and pop the quest.  There is nothing more disappointing when the ring will not go on her finger.

Can an engagement ring be resized?

At Morgan & Co, we design our rings with resizing in mind. We understand that when you’re proposing, you don’t always have the exact size, and that’s okay. After the proposal, we can resize the ring to fit perfectly.

A few notes:

  • Rings with full pavé or intricate side details or long engraving inside the band  may have resizing limits.

  • We offer a complimentary first resize after you propose.

  • It’s best to wait until after the proposal before doing major resizing. Living on the Sunshine Coast we find that our girls fingers will never measure the same in winter and summer. For this reason we suggest that your partner wears the ring for a period of time to gauge how the ring feels in all temperatures.

  • Resizing does not cause any structural damage to the ring. We use laser to meticulously resize so there are no adverse issues.

Our Advice?

Don’t let the fear of not knowing the size stop you from creating the ring she’ll love forever.

At Morgan & Co, we’ll guide you every step of the way  from clever ring size tricks to designing a custom piece that fits your story and your budget. Whether you’re going all out or keeping it classic, we’ll make sure the final fit is just right.

Question 2: What size diamond should I choose for my partner's engagement ring?

When you're choosing an engagement ring, one of the biggest decisions is:

"What size diamond should I get?"

There’s no one size fits all answer, but there is a right size for your partner, their style, and your budget.

Let’s walk you through what actually matters, and how Morgan & Co helps you get it just right.

1. Carat Size vs Diamond Appearance

The size of a diamond is measured in carats but bigger isn't always better.
Carat is just one part of the equation. A well-cut 0.80ct diamond can look brighter and larger than a poorly cut 1.00ct stone. No one wants a stone that has all the diamond weight in the tail of the stone, we want to see all that beautiful diamond on the top, creating a large spread.

2.  The Most Popular Diamond Size

In Australia, the most commonly chosen sizes for engagement rings are:

  • 0.80ct – 1.00ct: Classic, elegant, and timeless

  • 1.00ct – 1.50ct: Striking and luxurious, without being “too much”

  • 1.50ct- plus: For those who want maximum wow factor (or want to build a statement ring)

But remember a beautiful 0.80ct in the right setting can look amazing. It’s all about proportion, finger size, and design.

3. What Size Will Your Partner Love?

Here’s what to consider when choosing diamond size for your partner:

Style Preferences:

Do they love bold jewellery? Or are they more understated? If they wear fine, dainty pieces, a 1.30ct might feel overwhelming — whereas a 0.80ct oval or pear could feel perfect.

Finger Size:

Smaller fingers often make diamonds appear larger. A 0.80ct on a size J, or smaller, finger can look very substantial.

Setting Style:

Certain settings like halos or fine  bands can make a diamond appear larger without increasing carat weight.

Your Budget:

We work with all budgets  and often recommend slightly smaller carat weights with higher cut quality. You’ll get sparkle, elegance, and value all at once.

Lab-Grown Diamonds: Bigger Size, Smaller Price

If size is a priority and your budget is fixed, lab-grown diamonds are an incredible option. Ethically made and chemically identical to mined diamonds, you can often get a 30 to 50% larger stone for the same price.

We’ll show you both lab and natural options so you can decide what feels right.

Still Unsure, well that's what we are here for?

At Morgan & Co Jewellery in Buderim, we take the guesswork out of diamond shopping. We’ll talk you through size, shape, and sparkle and help you find a stone that makes her eyes light up.

Book a private consultation and let’s create a ring she’ll love forever and in the size that’s perfect for her.

With Love,
Laura xo
