How Much Should I Spend on an Engagement Ring?
How Much Should I Spend on an Engagement Ring?
3 min read
One of the most common questions I’m asked in the studio is: “How much should I spend on an engagement ring?”
And the truth is, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. What matters most is choosing a ring that reflects your partner, your relationship, and your budget. But there are important things to understand when it comes to quality, longevity and value for money.

Quality Matters: The Reality Behind Price Differences
Not all engagement rings are created equal, and not all gold is, either.
A beautifully made, luxury engagement ring should feel solid in the hand and strong on the finger. At Morgan & Co, our rings are made with higher gold content, resulting in a heavier, more substantial, longer-lasting ring.
That weight and strength isn’t just about luxury, it’s about longevity. A well-made ring:
-
Holds its shape
-
Resists bending
-
Doesn’t snap or crack
-
Feels like the heirloom it’s meant to be
The alternative is thin, lightweight, hollowed-out bands which might be cheaper upfront, but often end up costing more in repairs, replacements, and heartbreak. When you see a ring "on sale" for less than $5,000, it's due to the weight of gold and quality of the product. One thing to remember when shopping around is that if an engagement ring is "cheap", it's cheap for a reason and comparing one ring to another is most certainly not apples for apples.
Your partner deserves more than a “cheap” ring that won’t last. They deserve a piece with integrity.

We stand behind our craftsmanship completely.
What Does an Engagement Ring Cost at Morgan & Co?
Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Rings
Our lab grown diamond solitaires start from $5,900.
Every lab grown diamond we sell meets our strict quality standards:
-
Colourless or near-colourless
-
VVS1 – VS2 clarity
-
Excellent cut only
-
Chosen as if we were going to wear them
You can expect a lab grown diamond ring to range between $5,900–$12,000, depending on design and size. For example, a trilogy setting or a 3ct old mine cut diamond will sit toward the higher end.
Most of our lab grown diamond clients spend around $7,000.

Natural Diamond Engagement Rings
Natural diamond solitaire rings begin at $14,000.
Prices vary based on:
-
Diamond size
-
Colour and clarity
-
Cut quality
-
Whether you add side stones or choose a more detailed design
We always give transparent guidance so you know exactly what you're investing in.
How We Help You Work Within Your Budget
Every consultation starts with education. We explain diamond quality, differences between natural and lab grown diamonds, and how design choices affect cost.
Then we ask:
“What are you comfortable spending?”
From there, we guide you to what’s achievable while ensuring you receive a piece that meets our quality standards. Sometimes your budget determines whether you choose:
-
Lab grown vs natural
-
Solitaire vs three-stone
-
A certain carat size or shape
There is always a beautiful option for every client.
