Can you claim GST back on an engagement ring from Morgan & Co Buderim?

Can you claim GST back on an engagement ring from Morgan & Co Buderim?

Short answer: yes sometimes. If you’re an Australian citizen flying out of Australia and you meet the Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS) rules, you can claim a refund of the GST included in your ring’s price. If you’re not departing Australia, you generally can’t get GST back (unless you’re a GST registered business buying the ring for genuine business use which an engagement ring usually isn’t). Below is a plain-English guide written for Morgan & Co clients in Buderim.

The two ways people say “claim GST”

  1. TRS at the airport when you leave Australia
If you’re departing internationally, the TRS lets any traveller (including Australian residents) claim back the GST/WET on eligible goods you take out of the country. Jewellery qualifies. You must show your passport, boarding pass, original tax invoices , and the ring itself at the TRS counter before you leave.

  2. Business GST credits (input tax credits) through the ATO
This is only for GST-registered businesses and business-use purchases. Personal items (like engagement rings) aren’t eligible for business GST credits.

TRS basics (what you must satisfy)

To claim TRS on your Morgan & Co ring at the airport:

  • Spend at least AUD $300 (incl. GST) in total from the same ABN (multiple invoices allowed).

  • Buy within 60 days of your international departure.

  • Have a valid tax invoice showing:

    • Your name (and only your name) exactly as in your passport if the invoice is $1,000+,

    • Retailer name, address and ABN,

    • Date, description that matches the ring, and GST amount/total including GST.

  • Carry or wear the ring so ABF can sight it (jewellery can be worn). If something must be checked/oversized, get it sighted by ABF before check-in and take the stamped invoice to TRS.

  • Claim in person at the TRS facility: generally >30 minutes before an international flight (airports) or 1–4 hours before a cruise (seaports).

  • You can speed things up by pre-entering details in the official My TRS Claim app/site to generate a QR code.

Morgan & Co tip: ask us to include your full legal name on the invoice if your ring is $1,000+ that’s a TRS rule for high-value invoices. We’ll also ensure the invoice includes all the required details (ABN, description, GST, date).

How much GST do you get back?

Australia’s GST is 10%, but if your price is “GST-inclusive,” the refund is price ÷ 11.

  • Example: a $11,000 ring (incl. GST)  $1,000 refund.

  • Example: a $6,600 ring  $600 refund.
(That’s just the GST component WET doesn’t apply to jewellery.)

Big watch-outs (so you don’t have to pay it back later)

  • Bringing the ring back to Australia? You must declare it on your Incoming Passenger Card. If its value (together with other purchases) exceeds your duty-free concession ($900 per adult, $450 per child), you’ll have to repay GST/duty on the full value, not just the excess. Families can pool their concessions if they go through Customs together. Penalties apply for failing to declare.

  • Invoice timing (60-day rule): Your purchase date must fall within 60 days before you depart, and the goods must be exported when you leave. If ABF needs later proof of export, they can allow a short window to provide documents.

  • Checked vs carry-on: TRS officers can insist you carry or wear the goods for inspection. If you must check the ring (rare for jewellery), see an ABF Client Services counter before check-in to have the goods sighted and the invoice stamped, then present that at TRS.

  • Name mismatch on $1k+ invoices: If the invoice is $1,000 or more, it must show your name exactly as in your passport. If the ring is a gift, the claimant’s name needs to be on the invoice. (The payment method doesn’t matter; the invoice details do.)

Step-by-step: claiming TRS on a Morgan & Co engagement ring

  1. Before you buy: Tell us you’ll be claiming TRS and the date you fly. We’ll make sure your invoice date is within 60 days of departure and, if $1,000+, print your passport name and address on the invoice.

  2. At pickup: Take the original paper tax invoice and your passport details.

  3. Before you go to the airport: Optional but recommended create your TRS QR code online to speed processing.

  4. At the airport: Wear or carry the ring. Go to the TRS counter with your passport, boarding pass, invoice, and ring. Claim 30 minutes before departure (leave extra time; queues happen).

  5. After your trip: If you bring the ring back and your combined goods exceed your concession, declare it and be prepared to repay GST/duty. Families can pool concessions.

Can I claim GST if I’m not flying overseas?

No not via TRS. TRS is only for departing travellers who take the goods out of Australia. If you’re staying in Australia, there’s no GST refund.

What about claiming through my business?

You can only claim input tax credits if you’re GST registered and the purchase is for your enterprise (and you keep proper records and apportion any private use). An engagement ring is personal, so it won’t qualify for business GST credits.

Quick FAQ

Does citizenship matter?
No. TRS is about departing travellers, not nationality. Australian residents can claim if they meet the rules.

Can I use multiple invoices from Morgan & Co?
Yes so long as they’re from the same ABN, total $300+, and are within 60 days of departure. Bring all originals.

What if my ring won’t be ready until after 60 days?
Talk to us about timing. TRS is based on invoice date and export within 60 days, so we’ll work with you on collection/invoicing so you’re eligible.

How is the refund paid?
ABF offers payment to a card or bank account after processing. (Processing time varies.) Use the My TRS Claim QR to streamline the counter process.

Do kids get a concession too?
Yes $450 per child. Concessions can be pooled within a family returning together.

Why Consider Upgrading Your Engagement Ring? And How to Talk About It.

Why Consider Upgrading Your Engagement Ring? And How to Talk About It.

Getting engaged is a truly unforgettable moment, and your engagement ring forever symbolises that special commitment. But as time marches on and life changes, it's natural to reflect on things that once marked significant milestones. For many, this includes considering an upgrade to their engagement ring—whether it's for a larger diamond, a different setting, or simply to better reflect an evolved personal style and financial journey.

In this blog, we'll explore the compelling reasons behind upgrading your engagement ring and, crucially, offer advice on how to approach this conversation with your partner.

Why an Upgrade Might Be Right for You

There are many personal and meaningful reasons why couples choose to upgrade their engagement ring:

  • Celebrating Milestones: Significant anniversaries, career achievements, or major life events often inspire couples to enhance their rings. It's a beautiful way to symbolise a deeper, enduring bond and commemorate how far you've come together.
  • Evolving Personal Style: Just like your wardrobe, your taste in jewellery can change over time. An upgrade allows your ring to genuinely reflect your current aesthetic preferences and feel more aligned with who you are today.
  • Financial Growth: With increased financial stability, you might find yourself in a position to invest in a ring that better aligns with your current means and aspirations. It's an opportunity to acquire a piece you truly desire.
  • Repairing Wear and Tear: Daily wear can naturally affect your ring's appearance. An upgrade can be an opportune time to not only refresh its brilliance but also address any structural wear and tear, ensuring its longevity.
  • Creating a Family Heirloom: Redesigning your ring can transform it into an even more timeless and personal piece. It becomes a cherished heirloom, ready to be passed down through generations, carrying your unique love story with it.

How to Discuss an Upgrade with Your Partner

Bringing up the idea of upgrading your engagement ring can feel a bit daunting, but open communication is the cornerstone of any strong relationship. Here are some tips for initiating that conversation:

  1. Choose the Right Time and Setting: Pick a moment when you're both relaxed and have ample time to discuss matters openly. Avoid bringing it up during stressful periods or in public. A quiet evening at home, perhaps over dinner, could be ideal.
  2. Express Gratitude and Appreciation: Start by genuinely expressing your love and gratitude for your current ring and the beautiful sentiment behind it. Emphasise that your desire for an upgrade comes from a place of growth and evolution in your relationship, not dissatisfaction.
  3. Be Honest and Transparent: Share your feelings openly and honestly. Explain why an upgrade feels important to you now. Whether it's because your financial situation has improved, your taste has evolved, or you want to mark a special occasion, clear communication is key.
  4. Listen to Their Perspective: Give your partner a genuine opportunity to express their thoughts and feelings about the idea. Remember, this is a discussion. Be prepared to listen, understand their viewpoint, and perhaps compromise to find a solution that satisfies you both.
  5. Keep the Focus on Your Relationship: Gently remind each other that, while beautiful, the ring is ultimately a symbol of your commitment and love. The most important thing is the strength and health of your relationship itself.

What to Do with the Original Diamond

If you decide to upgrade your engagement ring with a new centre stone, you'll have a precious original diamond to consider. Here are some thoughtful options for repurposing it:

  1. Create a Matching Set: Consider transforming your original diamond into a beautiful pair of earrings. This creates a stunning matching set with your upgraded ring and serves as a lovely, continuous reminder of your journey together.
  2. Transform it into a Pendant: Another popular option is to repurpose the original diamond into an elegant pendant. Wearing the diamond close to your heart in a different form allows you to preserve its sentimental value while giving it a new life.
  3. Design New Earrings from Multiple Stones: If your original engagement ring featured two or more smaller stones, you could combine them to create a unique and meaningful pair of earrings.

At Morgan & Co in Buderim, we understand the profound emotional significance of your engagement ring. Our experienced team is dedicated to guiding you through the upgrade process with the utmost care and expertise. We offer personalised consultations to help you design a ring that beautifully honours your past while boldly celebrating your future.

The 2026 Vision for Engagement Rings at Morgan & Co Jewellery

The 2026 Vision for Engagement Rings at Morgan & Co Jewellery

Welcome to Morgan & Co Jewellery’s 2026 trend forecast. Your insider look into what’s next in diamond shapes, ring designs, gemstone colour and how we’re doing things differently to mainstream jewellers here on the Sunshine Coast.

1. What will be the “next” diamond stone shape in 2026?

At Morgan & Co, we’re watching the broader fine jewellery industry closely, and what’s emerging for 2026 offers exciting opportunities:

  • According to industry trend guidance for engagement rings in 2026, key shapes and setting styles include fancy three stone settings, antique cut centre stones, cluster settings, and sculptural rather than just classic solitaires.

  • Industry consensus on diamond jewellery more broadly (not just engagement rings) highlights geometric minimalism, organic shapes, and asymmetry, meaning the diamond shape and its orientation are becoming part of the design story rather than purely traditional.

What we expect to see at Morgan & Co in 2026:

  • Antique cut diamonds (e.g., old mine, old European) making a comeback for those wanting character & vintage charm with a modern twist, think Taylor Swift’s engagement ring.

  • Mixed shapes: Think a centre stone in a non-traditional shape for example, radiant, emerald, or pear shaped diamond flanked by contrasting smaller stones rather than always a round brilliant.

  • Bezel or flush settings becoming more common for protection and clean lines  especially for active lifestyles.

2. What will the overall ring design look like in 2026?

Design themes to expect

  • Engagement rings in 2026 move from purely classic toward “the ring as wearable art”: sculptural settings, broader bands, dynamic composition.

  • Warm metal tones, textured finishes, darkened contrasts are gaining traction.

How Morgan & Co will interpret 2026 new trends for our clients

Here at Morgan & Co Jewellery, we design with the person and their lifestyle in mind:

  • Tailored metal choices: While many mainstream retailers default to white gold/platinum, we’ll increasingly craft rings in rose gold or warm 18 t yellow (or mixed metals) when that better suits skin tone, style and trend.

  • Bespoke architecture: We’ll design bands that wrap, curve, or split to highlight the centre stone in unique ways rather than just “stone-on-band”

  • Side stone & texture options: Consider halo, hidden halo, pavé shoulders, mixed scale diamonds (smaller and larger integrated) creating depth and personality.

  • Lifestyle fit: For clients who are active (on the Sunshine Coast, travelling, outdoorsy) we’ll ensure the design balances flair with wearability, secure settings, protective elements for points on pear/emerald shapes, and finishes that stand up to daily life.

Visual mood

  • Bands that split and rejoin, or curve under the stone creating a “floating” effect.

  • Centre stones set slightly above the band, so light enters from all sides, but framed in a way that protects the stone.

  • Incorporation of negative space (open sides, latticework) to allow the diamond to “breathe” and sparkle from different angles.

  • The feel: modern yet timeless, individual rather than cookie-cutter, elevated without sacrificing comfort.

3. Which gemstones and colours will be popular in 2026?

Colour is very much in focus for 2026 jewellery.

  • Vibrant gemstones are having a major moment: deep greens, rich blues, stunning purples.

  • The trend points to soothing teal blue green tones: boulder opals, emerald ombré, tourmalines.

  • Other exciting tones include fancy colour diamonds (yellow, pink, brown) and unusual gems like watermelon tourmaline.

For Morgan & Co clients, what that means

  • While your centre stone might still be a white diamond (as many clients prefer), we’ll also encourage the option of accent coloured gems or even coloured centre stones for the adventurous.

  • Popular colours we’re seeing:

    • Teal/blue-green gems: e.g., emerald, tourmaline, sapphire with green/blue mix

    • Rich purples or deep blues: sapphire, tanzanite, spinel

    • Warm tones: chocolate/brown diamonds, champagne diamonds, ruby/pomegranate garnet for a romantic feel

  • We’ll ensure whatever colour you choose, we match it with a metal tone and band design that lets the gem shine (rose gold warms up the stone; white metal emphasises contrast etc).

Why colour matters

  • Coloured gems bring personality. They mark the ring as distinctively “you” rather than “one of many”.

  • Some couples are choosing a coloured stone for engagement and white diamond for wedding band (or vice-versa)  creating layered, meaningful symbolism.

  • At Morgan & Co, we emphasise education: we’ll show you how the colour will wear, how it pairs with your wardrobe, skin-tone, and how to maintain it (especially for softer stones).

How Morgan & Co Jewellery differs from mainstream jeweller-retailers

At Morgan & Co Jewellery on the Sunshine Coast (Buderim), we’re not just another chain jeweller. Here’s how we set ourselves apart and guide you through the treads we have spoken about for 2026.

  • Custom design leadership: Unlike many retail stores whose stock is pre designed, we specialise in truly custom engagement rings  you design the story, we craft it.

  • Local, dedicated service: You meet the designer/team, you’re guided step-by-step (not handed a catalogue).

  • Exclusive attention to detail: We focus on craftsmanship, finish, setting detail  microscopically checked  rather than mass volume.

  • Transparency & education: We believe in showing you all the options (shapes, clarity, setting types), explaining pros/cons and guiding you based on lifestyle and budget.

  • Lifetime relationships: The relationship doesn’t end when you leave with the ring. We offer ongoing servicing, resizing, cleaning and ensure the ring continues to shine through life’s chapters.

We reflect the Sunshine Coast ethos: relaxed luxury, modern yet approachable, aligned with local clientele who value quality, authenticity, and uniqueness  not just big brand signage.

We welcome you to our Buderim studio for your no obligation consultation to talk about your bespoke engagement ring and help guide you create the perfect engagement ring.

Warmest,

Australian Sapphires vs Ceylon Sapphires: Which is Right for You?

Australian Sapphires vs Ceylon Sapphires: Which is Right for You?

Sapphires are among the world’s most treasured gemstones symbols of romance, loyalty, and timeless elegance. But not all sapphires are the same. Their origin shapes their colour, beauty, and story. Two of the most sought after are Australian sapphires and Ceylon sapphires (from Sri Lanka).

At Morgan & Co Jewellery, we help couples  understand the unique differences so you can choose a stone that reflects your values, style, and budget.

1. Origin & History

  • Australian Sapphires: First discovered in Queensland and New South Wales in the mid 1800s, Australian sapphires are relative newcomers on the world stage. Once shipped overseas and mixed with Thai stones, many were worn without people ever knowing they came from Australia. Today, their unique colour range and strong ethical sourcing make them some of the most desirable engagement ring sapphires available.

  • Ceylon Sapphires: Sri Lanka, historically known as “Ceylon,” has mined sapphires for over 2,000 years. These gems carry royal associations, including Princess Diana’s iconic sapphire engagement ring (now worn by Catherine, Princess of Wales). They are prized for tradition, prestige, and unmistakable beauty.

2. Colour & Appearance

  • Australian Sapphires: Known for their incredible variety of shades, from deep midnight blues to vibrant greens, golden yellows, and teal tones. One of the most sought after types are parti sapphires unique gemstones that show two or more colours at once (often blue and green, or blue and yellow). This phenomenon is rare outside Australia, making each stone a one of a kind masterpiece.

  • Ceylon Sapphires: Famous for their vivid cornflower blue sapphires, bright, medium light stones that seem to glow with inner fire. Their clarity and brilliance make them a timeless choice for those who want a classic sapphire engagement ring with regal appeal.

3. Value & Rarity

  • Australian Sapphires: Once undervalued, they’re now experiencing a resurgence. Collectors are seeking out Australian parti sapphires and teal sapphires for their rarity and individuality. They often represent excellent value compared to other origins, while still offering world class beauty.

  • Ceylon Sapphires: With their long history and global recognition, they are considered premium stones. A top quality Ceylon cornflower blue sapphire can command some of the highest prices in the sapphire market.

4. Sustainability & Sourcing

  • Australian Sapphires: Australia is renowned for having some of the most ethical and environmentally responsible mining practices in the world. This makes them the ideal choice for couples seeking an ethical engagement ring without compromising on beauty.

  • Ceylon Sapphires: Many are mined by small scale, family run operations in Sri Lanka using traditional methods. This supports local communities, though traceability can sometimes be less clear. At Morgan & Co, we source from trusted suppliers to ensure transparency.

5. Which Should You Choose?

It comes down to your personal taste, values and budget:

  • Choose Australian sapphires if you want a stone with unique colours, from moody teals to vibrant parti sapphires, and the confidence of strong ethical sourcing. They are less expensive than Ceylon Sapphires.

  • Choose Ceylon sapphires if you’re drawn to the luminous beauty of royal blue cornflower sapphires and the romance of a gem steeped in history.

At Morgan & Co Jewellery, every sapphire we hand select meets strict standards for quality. Whether you dream of a modern Australian parti sapphire or a timeless Ceylon cornflower blue, we’ll help you design an engagement ring as unique as your love story.

Let's take a  look at  Designs That Make Sapphires Shine

Sapphires are incredibly versatile and can be styled in many ways but certain designs really bring out their best features. At Morgan & Co Jewellery, we specialise in setting sapphires so their colour, brilliance, and personality take centre stage.

Solitaire Engagement Rings

A sapphire in a classic solitaire setting allows the gemstone to be the hero. This is especially powerful with Ceylon cornflower blue sapphires, where the vivid hue shines without distraction. Pairing the stone with fine claws or a delicate bezel enhances its glow.

Three-Stone Rings

Sapphires look stunning when flanked by diamonds or complementary sapphires. For example:

A teal Australian sapphire paired with white diamond side stones balances modern colour with timeless sparkle.

A royal blue Ceylon sapphire with trapezoid or pear-shaped diamonds creates a regal, heirloom-worthy design.

Halo Settings

A halo of diamonds around a sapphire magnifies its colour, adding brilliance and contrast. This is perfect for lighter toned sapphires that benefit from extra sparkle, or for clients wanting a bold, statement piece.

Vintage & Art Deco Styles

Sapphires have always been a favourite in vintage and Art Deco jewellery. Think emerald-cut Australian parti sapphires framed with baguette diamonds, or oval Ceylon blues surrounded by milgrain detailing. These designs celebrate both history and artistry.

Contemporary Minimalist Designs

For modern couples, sapphires in east-west settings, geometric bezels, or slim gold bands are on trend. Australian parti sapphires, with their colour zoning, look especially striking in sleek minimalist designs that let the stone’s natural character shine.

Heirloom Redesigns

Because sapphires are durable (second only to diamond on the Mohs scale), they’re perfect for resetting into new designs. Many of our clients bring in heirloom sapphires to be transformed into modern rings, pendants, or earrings that still carry family legacy.

Bringing It All Together

At Morgan & Co, we don’t just set sapphires we design around them. Every sapphire is unique, and the design should be too. Whether it’s a classic solitaire, a halo engagement ring, or a bespoke parti sapphire creation, our role is to craft a piece where the design amplifies the gem’s natural beauty. Book your no obligation consultation — we look forward to seeing you at our Buderim studio.

Engagement Rings on the Right Hand: A Modern Expression of Tradition

Engagement Rings on the Right Hand: A Modern Expression of Tradition

For centuries, the engagement ring has been a symbol of promise and permanence, most often worn on the left hand. But as cultural traditions merge with contemporary style, the right hand is quietly stepping into focus. At Morgan & Co, we see this shift not as a break from tradition, but as an evolution — one that reflects individuality, intention, and the changing face of modern love.

The Origins of the Right Hand Tradition

Wearing an engagement ring on the right hand is far from new. In many cultures it is the norm: in Eastern Europe, Greece, and parts of South America, the right hand has always held this significance. In India, where the left hand was once considered less auspicious, engagement rings are traditionally worn on the right. These traditions remind us that symbolism is not fixed; it is shaped by culture, history, and personal meaning.

A Contemporary Shift

Today, couples are reinterpreting this tradition through a modern lens. For some, wearing the engagement ring on the right hand is a practical choice — especially for those who are left-handed and wish to protect their ring from everyday wear. For others, it is a statement of individuality, a way of setting their commitment apart from convention. In a world where personal expression defines luxury, the right hand is becoming a canvas for a new kind of heirloom.

Fashion and Symbolism

There is also a fashion element at play. The right hand offers a stage for diamonds to catch the eye, balancing other jewellery — a cocktail ring, a statement cuff, a sculptural stack of bands. For many, the right hand represents independence and self-expression, while the left remains a symbol of romantic tradition. The choice becomes less about etiquette and more about narrative: what feels authentic to the wearer.

Morgan & Co Perspective

At Morgan & Co, we design engagement rings with legacy in mind — whether worn on the left or right hand. Every detail, from diamond selection to setting style, is chosen with intention. Our philosophy is simple: a ring should not only symbolise love, but also feel aligned with the life and style of the one who wears it. If that means the right hand, then tradition evolves to meet the modern.

A New Kind of Timeless

The rise of right-hand engagement rings reminds us that jewellery is not static. It adapts, evolves, and redefines itself with each generation. What matters most is not where the ring is worn, but what it represents: a personal story, a future shared, and a piece designed to endure for a lifetime and beyond.

Your Engagement Ring: More Than a Purchase, a Story to Last a Lifetime

Your Engagement Ring: More Than a Purchase, a Story to Last a Lifetime

An engagement ring is far more than a purchase — it’s a reflection of who you are as a couple and the commitment you’re making. That’s why the choice of where you buy it matters just as much as the ring itself. The right ring doesn’t just represent love in the moment; it becomes part of your family’s story, a treasure to be passed down through generations. At Morgan & Co, we create custom engagement rings on the Sunshine Coast that capture this vision, blending artistry, craftsmanship, and your unique love story into every piece.

Beyond the Display Case

When you walk into a chain store, what you see is what you get: rows of rings designed to appeal to the widest audience possible. They’re built to be safe, universal, and mass-produced — not to capture the individuality of your style or relationship.

But love isn’t one-size-fits-all — and your ring shouldn’t be either.

At Morgan & Co, we specialise in custom engagement rings Sunshine Coast couples, and couples Australia wide, treasure forever. Every design begins with your story, your hand, and your vision. We take the time to understand your style, your lifestyle, and even your future wedding band plans. The result? A piece that feels balanced, proportioned, and deeply personal.

This shift — from buying something made for everyone, to crafting something made for you — is where true value lies.

Craftsmanship You Can Trust

Every diamond engagement ring begins with design — not just a setting or a stone, but a considered balance of form, function, and artistry.

At Morgan & Co, we treat craftsmanship as the heartbeat of every creation. Our experiences jewellers, with decades of expertise at the jeweller’s bench, ensure each detail is executed with precision. From the finesse of a fine claw setting to the perfect symmetry of a band, nothing is overlooked.

This isn’t about mass production. It’s about intentional design, precision, and the confidence that your ring has been created with the care it deserves. Every claw, every polish, and every gemstone placement is handled with meticulous attention to ensure your ring stands the test of time.

Take our Brilliant Round Cut Six Claw Ring design as an example: a brilliant round diamond in a timeless six-claw white gold setting. It’s refined, secure, and enduringly elegant — the perfect blend of artistry and function.

The Business Behind the Ring

Buying an engagement ring isn’t only about the piece itself — it’s also about who you’re entrusting with this milestone moment.

At Morgan & Co, we’re more than a jewellery studio. We’re a local custom jeweller on the Sunshine Coast built on reputation, trust, and personal relationships. Every consultation is by appointment, giving you a dedicated, private space to explore ideas, gemstones, and settings. We are proud to say that we have a 5 star rating with over 160 Google Reviews

When you choose a small studio, you’re choosing a business that knows your name, values your journey, and stands behind every piece with pride. That connection and care simply can’t be replicated by mass-market retailers. Read more bout our co-founders, Laura & Morgan here

A Modern Heirloom, Designed for You

An engagement ring should do more than sparkle today — it should be designed to last for generations. Each Morgan & Co piece is created as a modern heirloom: timeless, durable, and filled with meaning.

We carefully consider how your ring will age, ensuring its design is versatile enough to remain beautiful as your life evolves. It’s not just about a proposal; it’s about anniversaries, milestones, and the generations to come.

For example:

  •  Vintage-inspired engagement rings with intricate detailing, perfect for clients who want something distinctive that will always hold its charm.

  • Coloured gemstone engagement rings, featuring a pink princess-cut morganite framed by cultured diamonds, romantic yet modern, destined to feel timeless, or an Australian sapphire with milgrain detailing.

  • Lab grown engagement rings — modern four-claw solitaires or bezel set diamonds, celebrated for its striking simplicity and eternal elegance.

  • Natural diamond engagement rings — we offer stunning, certified natural diamonds, set in a classic feel or with a modern style, such a a half bezel diamond ring.

Each piece carries the potential to become a story within your family, passed down as a marker of enduring love.

Our Process: From Vision to Forever

At Morgan & Co, we believe the process of creating your custom engagement ring should feel just as meaningful as the proposal itself. Here’s how we guide you through it:

  1. Consultation – In a private appointment at our Buderim studio, we sit down with you to learn your story, aesthetic preferences, and practical considerations like lifestyle and future wedding band plans. Every consultation is tailored to your needs, ensuring the design process is personal and enjoyable.

  2. Stone Selection – Whether you dream of a natural or lab-grown diamond, or a coloured gemstone, we source options that meet your quality and budget. We’ll educate you on the 4Cs, ethical sourcing, and how diamond proportions affect the overall design of your diamond engagement ring.

  3. Design Development – We sketch and refine your ring concept, ensuring the proportions of the setting, band, and stone harmonise beautifully. For more complex designs, we provide CAD renders so you can see exactly how your ring will look before it’s crafted. This stage ensures your vision is captured in every detail.

  4. Crafting – Once approved, our skilled jewellers bring your vision to life. Every claw, polish, and finish is handled with precision and care, ensuring strength, comfort, and enduring beauty. This is where your custom ring design truly comes to life.

  5. Delivery – Finally, your ring is presented to you in its finished form — a modern heirloom ready to be part of your forever story. We take pride in seeing the joy and excitement on our clients’ faces, knowing the piece will be cherished for years to come.

FAQs: Choosing Your Engagement Ring

  1. Why shouldn’t I just buy from a chain jewellery store?
Chain stores often sell mass-produced rings designed to appeal broadly, not personally. Custom engagement rings Sunshine Coast couples create with us are tailored to your hand, lifestyle, and story — because they were made for you.

  2. What makes Morgan & Co different?
We specialise in bespoke design and one-on-one consultations. Every ring is crafted with intention, precision, and meaning. You work directly with a custom jeweller to shape the design, choose the stone, and ensure the final piece feels authentically yours.

  3. How do you ensure the craftsmanship of each ring?
Every ring is overseen by our co-founder Laura, whose decades of bench experience ensure uncompromising standards. From secure stone settings to perfect proportions, we prioritise durability, beauty, and wearability.

  4. What if I don’t know what style I want?
Our consultations guide you. We explore your personal style, hand shape, and lifestyle to suggest designs that feel right. Many clients arrive unsure and leave with a clear vision of their perfect custom engagement ring.

  5. Are Morgan & Co rings more expensive than mass-produced ones?
Not necessarily. While bespoke design reflects higher craftsmanship, we work with a range of budgets. By focusing on what matters most — whether diamond size, setting, or precious metal — we ensure your investment creates maximum value.

  6. How long does it take to create a custom ring?
On average, 6–8 weeks depending on design complexity and sourcing. We recommend allowing extra time if your proposal is tied to a specific date, such as Christmas or a holiday.

  7. Do you only work with diamonds?
No — we love working with a variety of gemstones. Whether you dream of a sapphire, emerald, morganite, or another gem, we can design a ring that reflects your personality and story.

Final Thought

At Morgan & Co, we believe your engagement ring should be as unique as your love. By choosing quality, craftsmanship, and story, you’re creating something far more valuable than jewellery — you’re shaping a modern heirloom, a symbol of enduring love, and a piece that will be treasured for generations.

Whether you’re searching for an engagement ring on the Sunshine Coast, a diamond engagement ring, or a completely bespoke creation, Morgan & Co is here to guide you every step of the way. Book your consultation with us at our Buderim studio.

Your love is unique. Your ring should be, too.

Why Morgan & Co Jewellery beats the Plaza for your engagement ring

Why Morgan & Co Jewellery beats the Plaza for your engagement ring

If you’re a bloke planning to propose, you want three things:

1) certainty she’ll love it, 2) a ring that lasts, and 3) zero muck-around. Strolling the retail counters at the Plaza can feel easy, but “off-the-shelf” rarely equals “perfect on her hand.” Morgan & Co Jewellery in Buderim is built for men who want confidence without the guesswork.

Here’s how we make that happen.

The retail counter vs. Morgan & Co (the quick take)

Traditional retail at the Plaza

  • Limited stock; you’re choosing from what’s in the cabinet

  • One-size-fits-most settings (often sit high, snag, and need resizing)

  • Sales targets and promos, not your brief

  • Little thought for how a future wedding band will sit flush

  • Basic aftercare; repairs often shipped away

Morgan & Co Jewellery (Buderim)

  • Designed for her hand and lifestyle—not just selected from a tray

  • Engineer-grade build quality for Coast life (beach, gym, work)

  • Wedding-band ready designs that sit flush and look intentional

  • Straightforward gem education (natural or lab-grown) with clear pros/cons

  • Private appointment in-studio or Zoom; no sales pressure, just a plan

  • Local craftsmanship + ongoing care so you’re never left hanging

Why men choose Morgan & Co

1) You control the brief (we make it easy)

We start with a 60 minute consultation about what she loves, what she avoids, her job, her style, your budget, and your proposal timing. We translate that into a design that looks right on her, not just in a box.

2) Built for real life on the Sunshine Coast

Salt, sand, sunscreen, gym grips and tools are hard on rings. We balance beauty with durability: correct band thickness, setting height that won’t snag, prongs or bezel suited to her lifestyle, and metal choices that match how she’ll wear it day to day.

3) Wedding-band ready (no “won’t sit flush” surprises)

One of the biggest regrets we hear from Plaza purchases? The wedding band doesn’t sit neatly under the engagement ring. We design with the band in mind from day one, so the set looks seamless when the time comes.

4) Diamond clarity without the jargon

We show you the real differences between natural and lab-grown diamonds (or coloured gems), brightness vs. size trade-offs, and what actually matters to the eye. You’ll know why you chose your stone, not just what it’s called.

5) Best value for your budget

Because we design to a brief, your spend goes into the quality of the ring she’ll wear forever not into display inventory and mall overheads. You won’t be upsold to whatever happens to be in the cabinet.

6) Privacy and pace

Appointment-only means you get a calm, one-on-one conversation with no hovering crowds. We map out the timeline and keep you updated so you can plan the proposal with confidence.

7) Local, accountable, and here after “yes”

We’re right here in Buderim for cleans, checks, and adjustments over the years. No sending your ring away for ages. If you remodel family stones later or need resizing after the proposal, we handle it in house.

What the process looks like

  1. Book a consult (studio or Zoom).

  2. Design together style, lifestyle, wedding-band plan, timeline, budget.

  3. Choose the stone (natural diamonds or lab-grown diamonds) with clear guidance.

  4. Approve the design (sketch/CAD and details).

  5. Crafting & updates

  6. Pick up & propose and yes, we can help with ideas.

Common questions from the men

“I don’t know her exact ring size.”
No drama. We can estimate from photos or a ring she wears; if it needs a tweak after the proposal, we sort it.

“I’m not a design guy.”
You don’t need to be. Bring a couple of photos or tell us what she wears day to day minimalist, vintage inspired, bold and we’ll translate that into something she’ll love.

“Lab-grown or natural?”
Both can be beautiful. We’ll show you options side-by-side and explain the trade-offs in size, rarity, resale expectations, and budget so you can decide with confidence.

“What if I’m proposing soon?”
Tell us your timeline. We’ll give you a clear plan at your consultation and offer thoughtful alternatives if time is tight.

If you want certainty, not guesswork

Skip the cabinet roulette. Come in with a plan, walk out with confidence and give her a ring that looks like it was always meant for her hand.

Book your private consultation at Morgan & Co Jewellery (Buderim) or via Zoom.
We’ll make this easy and unforgettable for both of you.

See you soon —

The Future of Heirloom Jewellery — Why Bespoke Is the New Inheritance

The Future of Heirloom Jewellery — Why Bespoke Is the New Inheritance

For centuries, heirloom jewellery has been one of the most meaningful ways to carry love, memory, and family identity from one generation to the next. A grandmother’s engagement ring, a father’s gold watch, or a diamond brooch carefully pinned for weddings — these treasures connected the past to the present in ways few other objects could.

But as the world of luxury shifts toward personalisation and individuality, the definition of what makes something an heirloom is evolving. At Morgan & Co, Sunshine Coast Jewellers, we believe that bespoke jewellery is the new inheritance — pieces designed today with the clear intention of being cherished and passed down tomorrow.

Modern Heirlooms: Designed With Intent

In the past, heirlooms were inherited by circumstance — what was left behind was what you received. Today, couples and families are choosing to create jewellery with the deliberate intention of becoming tomorrow’s treasures.

When you design a bespoke engagement ring on the Sunshine Coast, you’re not just creating a piece of jewellery for today’s love story. You’re building something that will carry your values, taste, and style into the future. Crafted with intention, these modern heirlooms are immediately meaningful, designed to be loved now and cherished forever.

Bespoke as Legacy

Bespoke design is what transforms jewellery from an accessory into a legacy. Every decision — from the diamond cut to the choice of metal, to the setting height and fine details — reflects individuality and meaning.

With Morgan & Co’s bespoke process, you aren’t just buying a ring or necklace; you are curating a legacy. The piece becomes a tangible expression of your story, created with the permanence of fine diamonds, coloured gemstones, and precious metals.

This is why so many couples choose bespoke over mass-produced. An heirloom should feel unique, not generic.

The Rise of the “New Inheritance”

Luxury today is no longer about excess; it’s about thoughtfulness. We’ve entered an era where meaning outweighs quantity, and experiences outweigh possessions. Bespoke jewellery embodies this modern philosophy — carefully considered, deeply personal, and made to last.

The heirlooms of the future will not only be what’s left behind, but what was consciously designed with love and intention. They’ll be worn every day, treasured on special occasions, and passed down as part of a story that began with you.

Why Morgan & Co

At Morgan & Co, Buderim-based Sunshine Coast Jewellers, our philosophy is simple: to design modern heirlooms. We specialise in bespoke engagement rings and custom fine jewellery, crafted with a balance of contemporary design and timeless craftsmanship.

Every detail is considered with precision — from sourcing ethically-certified diamonds and Australian sapphires to designing settings that reflect your lifestyle and values. The result? A piece that will remain as relevant and beautiful in fifty years as it is today.

Your jewellery should never feel like it came from a chain store. It should feel like it came from you.

FAQs: Bespoke Heirloom Jewellery

1. What makes bespoke jewellery an heirloom?
An heirloom isn’t defined by age, but by meaning and craftsmanship. Bespoke jewellery is created with your story in mind, designed to endure, and intended to be passed down.

2. Is bespoke jewellery more expensive than store-bought pieces?
Not always. At Morgan & Co, we tailor designs to suit your style and budget. The true value lies in the craftsmanship and uniqueness, not just the price tag.

3. Can I redesign an existing heirloom into something new?
Absolutely. We often work with clients to reset or remodel inherited jewellery, breathing new life into sentimental pieces while keeping their history intact.

4. How do I start designing a bespoke heirloom piece?
The process begins with an obligation-free consultation at our Sunshine Coast studio. Bring your inspiration, ideas, or even a Pinterest board, and we’ll help translate it into a design that feels uniquely yours.

5. What stones do you recommend for heirloom pieces?
Diamonds remain a classic choice due to their durability, but sapphires, emeralds, and other precious gemstones can also make stunning heirloom pieces. We help source stones that match both your values and aesthetic.

6. How long does the bespoke process take?
On average, bespoke jewellery takes 8–12 weeks, depending on the complexity of the design and stone sourcing. We recommend starting early, especially for engagement rings.

At Morgan & Co, we believe heirlooms don’t just happen — they’re created with love, meaning, and intention. If you’re ready to design your own future heirloom, we’d love to guide you through the process.

Planning Ahead for Wedding Season: Engagement Rings, Wedding Bands & Bridal Jewellery

Planning Ahead for Wedding Season: Engagement Rings, Wedding Bands & Bridal Jewellery

Wedding season on the Sunshine Coast is always magical. The beaches are golden, the hinterland is lush, and couples are preparing to celebrate love with family and friends. Amid the excitement of styling the dress, booking the venue, and finalising the guest list, there’s one detail that can sometimes be overlooked: giving yourself enough time to organise your wedding rings and bridal jewellery.

At Morgan & Co, we know that your jewellery is so much more than just an accessory. It’s a lasting symbol of your story — something you’ll wear and treasure for years to come. That’s why planning ahead is one of the most important steps you can take in your wedding journey.

Why Planning Early Matters

Bespoke jewellery takes time, care, and craftsmanship. Every piece that leaves our Buderim studio is made with love, and it’s important to allow enough time for the process so that nothing feels rushed.

  • Wedding bands: Allow at least 6 weeks from consultation to completion.

  • Bridal gifts (such as earrings or necklaces): Allow 3–4 weeks for design, crafting, and finishing touches.

Starting early also means you’ll have more flexibility — whether it’s sourcing a particular diamond, choosing the perfect metal, or incorporating custom design elements unique to you. Plus, it’s one less thing to worry about in the lead-up to your big day.

Wedding Rings: Designed to Last

Your wedding rings are more than jewellery. They are symbols of commitment, crafted to be worn every single day. At Morgan & Co, our wedding bands are designed with intention, style, and comfort in mind.

  • Custom design: Reflect your personal story and style.

  • Metals & diamonds: Choose from yellow, white, or rose gold, with natural or cultured diamonds available.

  • Craftsmanship: Every curve, claw, and detail is carefully considered to ensure durability and comfort.

By booking your consultation early, you’ll know your rings are ready in plenty of time, giving you peace of mind as your wedding day approaches.

Bridal Jewellery & Gifts: Thoughtful, Timeless, Elegant

Bridal jewellery and gifts are the finishing touches that make your wedding day even more special. Whether you’re looking for the perfect pair of earrings for the bride, matching gifts for your bridesmaids, or a sentimental piece for a family member, jewellery is a meaningful way to say thank you and create memories that last.

Here are a few favourites from our collection:

  • Diamond Studs – A timeless choice that every bride can wear on the day and forever after.

  • Pink Princess Cut – A romantic design featuring a pink princess-cut morganite with cultured diamonds, perfect for brides who want something soft and feminine.

  • Rose Gold Brilliant Round – A strikingly simple round diamond in a rose gold setting, symbolising timeless elegance.

  • White Gold Oval – An oval-cut diamond with a pavé band, adding subtle sparkle that shines in wedding photos.

Small personalised details — such as hidden halos, engraving, or matching sets — make these gifts even more special.

Tips for Sunshine Coast Weddings

  • Book early: Popular months (like September–November) fill fast, and bespoke jewellery requires time.

  • Match the season: Brighter, lighter settings work beautifully with summer light, while warmer metals and bold stones suit autumn and winter weddings.

  • Think long-term: Choose pieces that you’ll love wearing not only on your wedding day but every day after.

FAQs

How long do I need to order wedding rings before my wedding?
We recommend booking your consultation at least 8 weeks before your wedding to allow for design, crafting, and resizing if needed.

Do you offer matching wedding bands?
Yes — we can create his, hers, or matching sets that complement each other while reflecting your unique styles.

What’s the best bridal jewellery gift?
Diamond studs are the most versatile and timeless gift, but many brides also love delicate pendants, bracelets, or a ring that holds sentimental value.

Can you work with both lab-grown and natural diamonds?
Absolutely. We source both certified cultured (lab-grown) and natural diamonds, and we’ll guide you through the options so you can make the choice that feels right for you.

Do I need to book an appointment to view your collection?
Yes — our Buderim studio is by appointment only, ensuring you receive a personalised consultation and a tailored experience.

Lab-Grown Diamond vs Moissanite: Which Should You Choose?

Lab-Grown Diamond vs Moissanite: Which Should You Choose?

If you’re shopping Sunshine Coast engagement rings and deciding between a lab-grown diamond and moissanite, you’re choosing between two brilliant, durable, and ethical lab-created gems — each with a distinct look, price profile, and story.

At Morgan & Co Jewellery Buderim, we primarily design with lab-grown and natural diamonds, as they offer timeless beauty, recognised certification, and enduring value. However, if moissanite is what your heart desires, we’re more than happy to source the highest quality moissanites to bring your dream ring to life.

The Short Answer

Choose lab-grown diamond if you want the classic diamond look, formal diamond grading (GIA/IGI), and a traditional heirloom feel.

Choose moissanite if you want the biggest, boldest sparkle for your budget and don’t mind that it’s a different gemstone (silicon carbide) rather than diamond.

What They Are (and Aren’t)

Lab-grown diamond: A real diamond — a pure carbon crystal grown using HPHT or CVD technology. Chemically and optically identical to a mined diamond.

Moissanite: A different gemstone (silicon carbide) created in a lab. Famous for its vibrant, rainbow “fire.” It’s not a diamond, but it’s durable and beautiful in its own right.

Side-by-Side: The Essentials

Factor Lab-Grown Diamond Moissanite
Look Classic diamond brilliance with crisp white flashes Intense “rainbow” fire; a more dramatic sparkle
Hardness (Mohs) 10/10 (the hardest natural material) 9.25/10 (extremely durable)
Toughness Excellent Excellent
Grading & Certification GIA/IGI colour (D–Z), clarity (IF–SI), cut grades Generally “colourless/near-colourless”; not formally graded
Testing Reads as diamond (it is diamond) Can fool old testers; advanced ones detect moissanite
Resale Perception Lower than mined, but still a diamond Low; not a diamond
Budget Fit True diamond brilliance, great value vs mined Largest stone for your spend

Plain English: lab-grown behaves like diamond because it is diamond. Moissanite is a different gem — brighter, more fiery, and more affordable.

How They Wear Day to Day

Both are durable for everyday wear. Diamonds remain the benchmark for hardness; moissanite follows closely behind. In reality, how you care for your ring and the quality of the setting matter more than microscopic differences in toughness.

Care: Warm water, mild detergent, and a soft brush. Both can generally handle ultrasonic and steam cleaning, depending on your setting.

The Aesthetic Difference (What Your Eye Sees)

Brilliance vs Fire —
Diamonds (lab-grown included) give that refined white sparkle.
Moissanite throws stronger rainbow flashes — some love the vibrance, others prefer the classic diamond glow.

Size & Presence —
Moissanite offers more size for the spend.
Lab-grown diamonds provide beautiful balance between size, value, and authenticity.

Shapes & Cuts —
Lab-grown: classic brilliance, timeless elegance.
Moissanite: vibrant fire, sometimes “extra sparkly” in larger sizes.

Budget Logic

Best diamond value: Lab-grown diamonds deliver the classic sparkle and tradition at a fraction of the mined diamond price.

Maximum size for spend: Moissanite gives you more millimetres on the hand but is a different gemstone.

Heirloom energy: Most of our clients choose lab-grown or natural diamonds for their lasting beauty, certification, and sentimental value.

Colour, Clarity & Sourcing Notes

Lab-grown diamonds: We curate bright, high-quality stones (typically D–F colour, VS–VVS clarity) for exceptional brilliance.

Moissanite: We source premium, near-colourless options for clients who specifically request them. Viewing them in natural light at our Buderim studio helps you decide if the unique moissanite sparkle is for you.

Both options avoid new mining and have transparent supply chains.

“How Big Will It Look?”

Moissanite is sold by millimetre (mm), diamonds by carat.
Approximate face-up size comparisons:

  • 6.5 mm ≈ 1.00 ct diamond

  • 7.5 mm ≈ 1.50 ct diamond

  • 8.1 mm ≈ 2.00 ct diamond

Design Tips From Our Bench

If you love moissanite’s sparkle but want a softer look, consider step-cut shapes or smaller centres.
Prefer understated elegance? Lab-grown diamonds in oval, radiant, or round cuts offer refined brilliance.

Resale & Longevity

Neither is intended as an investment. Mined diamonds generally hold higher resale perception, followed by lab-grown, with moissanite lowest. Choose the stone that makes your heart sing — not for resale, but for forever.

Real-World Scenarios

  • “I want classic diamond sparkle and grading.” → Lab-grown diamond

  • “I want the biggest look for my spend.” → Moissanite

  • “I prefer subtle flashes over rainbow fire.” → Lab-grown diamond

  • “I want an extra-large oval that turns heads.” → Moissanite or lab-grown, depending on budget

FAQs

Is moissanite durable enough for an engagement ring?
Yes, it’s very tough (9.25 on the Mohs scale).

Will moissanite look ‘fake’ next to diamonds?
It looks different — more rainbow fire. Some adore it; others prefer the diamond’s white brilliance.

Do lab-grown diamonds test as real diamonds?
Yes. They are diamonds and pass all modern testing methods.

Rising Gold Prices and Why Our Rings Are Worth Every Gram

Rising Gold Prices and Why Our Rings Are Worth Every Gram

Over the past year, many of our clients have asked us about rising gold prices and what it means for their dream engagement ring or bespoke jewellery piece. Gold, like any precious metal, fluctuates in value, and these shifts inevitably affect the price of jewellery.

At Morgan & Co, we understand the concern—but we want to assure you that while we do everything we can to keep prices fair, we never compromise on quality.

Quality over shortcuts

Some jewellers may reduce the weight of gold in a ring to cut costs, but this isn’t a practice we follow. Every ring we craft is deep, thick, and substantial, using the correct amount of gold to ensure it lasts a lifetime. Our commitment is to durability, comfort, and longevity, not just a lower price tag.

The Difference is in the Details.

A thin, lightweight ring may seem like a bargain at first, but over time, it can warp, wear down, or lose its shape—especially with daily wear. Our rings are built to withstand life’s moments, retaining their weight, feel, and brilliance for generations.

Balancing Cost & Craftsmanship

We actively monitor the gold market and source our materials responsibly. While we aim to keep your investment as reasonable as possible, our priority remains: your jewellery should be a true reflection of enduring love, not a compromise on quality.

When you choose Morgan & Co, you’re choosing jewellery that is hefty in gold, timeless in design, and crafted with care—because some things in life are worth every gram.

Book your complimentary consultation at our Sunshine Coast Jewellery studio. We ethically source both natural diamonds and lab grown diamonds and will help you create your custom diamond engagement ring right here on the Sunshine Coast.

With Love,
Morgan xo
