Exploring Emerald Cut Diamonds
There’s something about emerald cut diamonds that I find absolutely captivating. If you’re drawn to understated elegance and a sophisticated, timeless look, then the emerald cut might just be the perfect choice for you. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of helping clients discover the beauty of this unique diamond cut, and I’m always excited to share what makes it so special.

What Is an Emerald Cut Diamond?
Emerald cut diamonds are known for their distinctive rectangular shape and stepped facets. Unlike other diamond cuts that focus on maximising brilliance, the emerald cut emphasises clarity and depth. The large, open table (the top surface of the diamond) offers a window into the stone’s soul, revealing its true character. The elongated shape and clean lines give the emerald cut a refined, vintage feel that’s both elegant and modern.
One of the standout features of an emerald cut diamond is its “hall of mirrors” effect. The parallel facets create flashes of light that resemble a hall of mirrors, giving the diamond a unique, sophisticated sparkle. It’s a look that’s less about fire and brilliance and more about subtlety and grace. If you appreciate understated luxury, the emerald cut is a beautiful choice.
What Makes Emerald Cut Diamonds Different?
What sets emerald cut diamonds apart from other cuts is their focus on clarity rather than brilliance. While round and princess cuts are all about sparkle, the emerald cut’s long, linear facets highlight the purity of the stone. Because of this, the quality of the diamond’s clarity and colour becomes even more important. Any inclusions or imperfections are more visible in an emerald cut, which is why it’s crucial to choose a high-quality stone.
Another difference is the shape itself. The elongated form of the emerald cut can create the illusion of longer, more slender fingers, which is something many of my clients love. It’s a versatile shape that works beautifully in both minimalist and more elaborate settings.
Different Ways to Set an Emerald Cut Diamond
One of the things I enjoy most about working with emerald cut diamonds is the variety of ways they can be set. The classic choice is a simple solitaire setting, which allows the diamond’s clean lines to take centre stage. But if you’re looking for something with a bit more flair, consider a halo setting. Surrounding the emerald cut with smaller diamonds can enhance its size and add a touch of sparkle, creating a stunning contrast with the diamond’s subtle elegance.
The bezel set, or half bezel set, emerald cut diamond is a setting that we are seeing a lot of in 2024 for engagement ring choices. The Breeta Ring is one of my absolute favourite ring designs we have created to date. It's sophisticated and timeless and a little more masculine, in my opinion, which I absolutely love!
For a more contemporary look, a three-stone setting is a wonderful option, such as our Alaska Ring. Pairing the emerald cut with tapered baguettes or trapezoid side stones can add dimension and complexity to the ring, making it a true statement piece. I’ve also seen some beautiful designs where the emerald cut is set east-west (horizontally), offering a modern twist on this classic shape.
Another option for a simple and contemporary look is opting for a bold, or statement, diamond band for your engagement ring. An example of this is our statement emerald cut diamond band, The Manila and a claw set bold emerald cut diamond band set in white gold with claws, like The Osaka ring.
The Rise in Popularity of Emerald Cut Diamonds
In recent years, I’ve noticed a significant rise in the popularity of emerald cut diamonds. Celebrities and influencers have helped bring this cut back into the spotlight, and more couples are drawn to its unique blend of vintage charm and modern sophistication. The emerald cut’s association with old Hollywood glamour and its understated elegance make it a favourite among those who want a ring that’s both timeless and distinct.

How to Choose the Perfect Emerald Cut Diamond
When selecting an emerald cut diamond, there are a few key factors to consider. First, clarity is crucial. Because of the open nature of the cut, inclusions are more visible, so I always recommend choosing a diamond with a higher clarity grade. Colour is another important consideration—since the cut doesn’t hide colour as well as others, opting for a higher colour grade will ensure your diamond appears bright and white. When selecting an emerald cut diamond, whether it be lab grown or natural, we would always look for a diamond that is VVS1 or VVS2 in quality and a D, E or F, meaning a colourless stone.
Proportions also play a big role in the overall look of the diamond. Emerald cut diamonds can vary in their length-to-width ratios, with some appearing more square and others more elongated. It’s all about personal preference, and I love helping clients find the ratio that suits their style.
Why It’s Important to See Us In-Person to Select Your Diamond
With something as significant as an engagement ring, I always advise against buying online. While it might be tempting to browse and purchase with just a few clicks, there’s no substitute for seeing a diamond in person. Each emerald cut diamond has its own unique character, and what might look good on a screen can be completely different in real life.
When you visit our Buderim studio, you’ll have the opportunity to hand-select your diamond, compare different stones, and see how they look in various settings. We'll guide you through the process, ensuring that you choose a diamond that not only fits your budget but also meets our high standards for quality. We never compromise on quality, and I’m committed to helping you find a diamond that’s as perfect as your love story. You can book your complementary consultation and we can show you a selection of emerald cut diamonds for you to choose from.

Working Within Your Budget Without Compromising on Quality
At Morgan & Co, we understand that every couple has a different budget, and we’re here to help you find the perfect emerald cut diamond within your price range. We’re transparent about the factors that influence cost—such as carat weight, colour, and clarity—and we work closely with you to find the best possible stone that aligns with your budget. What’s most important to us is that you walk away with a ring that you’ll cherish for a lifetime, knowing that you’ve made an informed and confident choice.
Whether you’re drawn to the timeless elegance of the emerald cut or you’re just beginning your search, I invite you to visit us in Buderim. Together, we’ll explore the beauty of emerald cut diamonds and create a piece that’s uniquely yours. Your engagement ring is a symbol of your love and commitment, and it deserves the personal touch that only an in-person consultation can provide. Let’s make sure it’s perfect.

Cathedral vs. Traditional Settings: Which Engagement Ring Setting Is Right for You?
When it comes to choosing the perfect engagement ring, the setting plays a crucial role in both the aesthetic and overall vibe of the piece. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of guiding many clients through this decision, and two of the most popular styles we often discuss are the cathedral setting and the traditional setting. Each has its own unique charm, and it’s important to understand the differences to determine which one best suits your style—or your partner’s, if you’re the one popping the question.

The Cathedral Setting: A Touch of Elegance
The cathedral setting is named after the graceful arches of a cathedral, and for good reason. In this style, the band swoops up towards the centre stone, creating an elevated, almost architectural look. I’ve always found this design to be incredibly elegant and timeless. It adds a bit of height to the ring, making the centre stone the undeniable focal point.
One of the things I love about the cathedral setting is how it can make the diamond (or any gemstone) appear larger and more prominent. The arches draw the eye upwards, creating a sense of grandeur without being overly flashy. It’s a beautiful choice for those who want their ring to have a bit of drama while still maintaining a classic feel.
Another advantage of the cathedral setting is its versatility. It can accommodate a variety of diamond shapes and sizes, and the design can be as intricate or as simple as you like. Whether you prefer clean lines or additional embellishments like pave diamonds along the band, the cathedral setting offers plenty of room for personalisation.
The Traditional Setting: Classic and Timeless
On the other hand, the traditional setting is all about simplicity and letting the stone take centre stage. Often referred to as a prong or solitaire setting, this style features a band that holds the diamond in place with four or six prongs, allowing light to pass through the stone from all angles. This maximises the diamond’s brilliance, making it a popular choice for those who want their ring to sparkle without any distractions.
I find that the traditional setting appeals to those who appreciate minimalism and classic design. It’s a timeless choice that never goes out of style, and it pairs beautifully with almost any wedding band. The simplicity of this setting allows the diamond’s natural beauty to shine, making it a great option if you’ve chosen a particularly stunning stone that you want to showcase.
One of the benefits of the traditional setting is its practicality. It’s a bit more low-profile than the cathedral setting, which can make it more comfortable for everyday wear, especially for those with active lifestyles. Additionally, the traditional setting is often easier to clean and maintain, as there are fewer nooks and crannies where dirt can accumulate.
Which Setting Is Right for You?
Ultimately, the choice between a cathedral and traditional setting comes down to personal preference. If you’re drawn to elegance and want a ring with a bit of height and architectural detail, the cathedral setting might be your perfect match. On the other hand, if you prefer a clean, classic look that highlights the beauty of the centre stone, a traditional setting could be the way to go.
Whenever I work with clients on designing or selecting an engagement ring, I always encourage them to consider their lifestyle, personal style, and how they want the ring to make them feel. Both the cathedral and traditional settings are beautiful in their own right, and there’s no wrong choice—it’s all about what resonates with you or your partner.
Regardless of the setting you choose for your engagement ring, our expert team at Morgan & Co always ensure we leave plenty of room for your wedding band to sit flush. It's important that your setting is created to stand the test of time and is just s important as your chosen diamond or gemstone.
If you’re still unsure, I’m here to help. We can explore both options and even try on some sample rings to see which style feels right. After all, your engagement ring is more than just a piece of jewellery—it’s a symbol of your love story, and it should be as unique and special as the journey you’re about to embark on.

Book your free consultation at our Sunshine Coast studio so you can try on both styles and choose which engagement ring suits you, your personal style and lifestyle.

September's Birthstone: The Sapphire
As someone who’s spent years working with gemstones, I have to say, there’s something truly special about sapphires. If you’re born in September, you’re lucky enough to claim this mesmerising gem as your birthstone. But even if you’re not a September baby, the sapphire’s beauty and significance make it a gemstone worth appreciating.
Sapphires have always captivated me with their deep, rich hues—most commonly a stunning blue, but they actually come in a rainbow of colours, from pinks and yellows to greens and even colourless. The classic blue sapphire, though, holds a particular allure, often associated with royalty, wisdom, and purity. There’s a reason it’s been a favourite of kings and queens for centuries.
One of the things I love most about sapphires is their versatility. Whether set in a simple solitaire or surrounded by a halo of diamonds, they have a way of commanding attention without being overly flashy. They’re perfect for those who appreciate elegance with a touch of depth and mystery. I often find that clients who choose sapphires are drawn to their understated sophistication—a reflection of their own personal style.
Sapphires are also incredibly durable, ranking just below diamonds on the Mohs scale of hardness. This makes them an excellent choice for everyday wear, especially in engagement rings. Knowing that your sapphire will stand the test of time, just like your love, adds another layer of meaning to this beautiful stone.
But beyond its physical properties, the sapphire carries a wealth of symbolism. It’s long been thought to bring protection, good fortune, and spiritual insight. In ancient times, people believed that sapphires could guard their wearers against envy and harm. For those seeking a gemstone with both aesthetic and symbolic value, the sapphire truly delivers.
If you’re considering incorporating a sapphire into your jewellery collection, whether it’s your birthstone or simply a stone you’re drawn to, I encourage you to explore its many facets. There’s a depth to sapphires that’s hard to capture in words—it’s something you have to experience for yourself.
Whether set in a timeless engagement ring, a pair of elegant earrings, or a statement pendant, sapphires never fail to make an impression. Every time I work with one, I’m reminded of why this gem has been cherished throughout history, and I’m always excited to share that beauty with others.
If you’re ready to discover the allure of sapphires for yourself, I’d love to help you find or create the perfect piece. Let’s celebrate the timeless elegance and deep symbolism of this remarkable gemstone together.
A big Happy Birthday to those celebrating a Birthday in September!

Engagement Ring Trends: What's Still Hot and What's Emerging
The world of engagement rings is constantly evolving, with certain trends standing the test of time while new styles emerge, capturing the hearts of couples everywhere. At Morgan & Co, we’ve been closely following the trends, and here’s a look at what’s still hot and what’s on the rise in the world of engagement rings.

Trends That Are Still Hot
Oval Diamonds: The Eternal Favourite — Oval diamonds continue to dominate the engagement ring scene, and it’s easy to see why. Their elongated shape offers a stunning blend of brilliance and elegance, making fingers appear longer and more slender. The oval diamond's versatility also means it pairs beautifully with various settings, from classic solitaires to intricate vintage designs. Couples are drawn to the timeless yet contemporary appeal of oval diamonds, making them a top choice year after year. View our stunning Maple Ring which features a 1.59ct oval cut lab grown diamond in a yellow gold setting.
Lab-Grown Diamonds: A Smart, Ethical Choice — Lab-grown diamonds are more popular than ever, particularly among young couples who are conscious of both their budgets and their environmental impact. With the cost of living on the rise, many are prioritising significant life goals like home ownership, paying for a wedding, and traveling the world. Lab-grown diamonds offer a brilliant solution—they are chemically identical to natural diamonds but come at a fraction of the price. This allows couples to achieve the dream of owning a stunning, high-quality diamond without compromising on other financial goals. Read more about lab grown diamonds here.
Yellow Gold: The Go-To Metal — Yellow gold has firmly established itself as the metal of choice for engagement rings. Its warm, rich hue complements a wide range of skin tones and adds a touch of vintage charm that many couples find irresistible. Yellow gold also offers a timeless appeal that aligns with the trend of opting for classic, enduring designs. Whether paired with a modern or traditional setting, yellow gold continues to be the preferred choice for those seeking a luxurious yet timeless look.

Emerging Trends to Watch
Bolder Bands: From Delicate to Chunky — We’re seeing a noticeable shift towards bolder engagement ring bands, with couples increasingly opting for chunky designs over the more delicate styles that have been popular in recent years. These thicker bands make a strong statement and offer a contemporary edge to the classic engagement ring. They provide more room for unique design elements, such as intricate engravings, multiple gemstones, or mixed metal accents, allowing for greater personalisation and creativity. We are seeing also a growing trend in chunkier wedding bands to go with existing engagement rings and the contrast between a delicate engagement ring band with a flat profile or high dome wide wedding band is a stunning choice.
Toi Et Moi: The Double Stone Sensation — The Toi Et Moi (French for "You and Me") engagement ring, featuring two stones set side by side, is taking off as a romantic and symbolic choice. This design celebrates the union of two souls, with each stone representing one half of the couple. Whether paired with contrasting gemstones or complementary diamonds, the Toi Et Moi ring is both meaningful and visually striking. It’s a trend that’s easy to fall in love with, offering endless possibilities for customisation and personal expression. What is not to love about having two diamonds on your finger?!
Square-Shaped Diamonds: The Rise of Cushion, Emerald, and Radiant Cuts — Square-shaped diamonds, particularly cushion, emerald, and radiant cuts, are gaining traction as more couples seek alternatives to the traditional round brilliant cut. Cushion-cut diamonds offer a soft, romantic appearance with their rounded corners and brilliant facets. Emerald cuts are prized for their understated elegance and distinctive step-cut facets that create a hall-of-mirrors effect. Radiant cuts combine the best of both worlds, offering the brilliance of a round diamond with the unique shape of a square or rectangle. These square-shaped diamonds bring a fresh, modern edge to engagement rings while still exuding timeless sophistication.

We Look Forward to Meeting You
As you start on the exciting journey of finding or creating the perfect engagement ring, these trends offer inspiration and insight into what’s capturing the hearts of couples today. Addressing 3 Common Concerns When Starting Your Engagement Ring Journey
Embarking on the journey to find or create your perfect engagement ring is one of the most exciting experiences in life, but it can also come with its fair share of concerns. At Morgan & Co., we are here to guide you through every step, ensuring your journey is as smooth and informed as possible. Below, we address three of the most common concerns our clients face when starting their engagement ring journey and how we help alleviate them.

1. Financial Concerns
One of the most common concerns is managing the financial aspect of purchasing an engagement ring. Many clients feel overwhelmed by price tags or fear they won't find something beautiful within their budget, especially when it comes to custom designs.
Our Solution —
At Morgan & Co., we take a tailored approach to ensure that you get the most out of your budget. This might mean opting for a solitaire engagement ring, where you can focus your investment on one larger, high-quality stone rather than multiple smaller stones. We also offer flexible payment options, with a 30% deposit to commence production and the option to allow extra time to finalise the balance. This ensures that you can focus on the beauty and significance of the ring without the immediate pressure of upfront costs. During our initial consultation, one of the first things we discuss is your budget. This helps us understand what you're comfortable spending and allows us to guide you toward getting the largest, highest-quality piece within your price range. Our goal isn't to maximise what we can get from you, but rather to ensure you receive the best value for your investment.
2. Lack of Knowledge
Navigating the world of diamonds and engagement rings can be daunting, especially with so much misinformation out there. Unfortunately, we've seen far too many couples taken advantage of by other jewellers—often lured in by "cheap" prices that come at the expense of quality.
Our Solution —
At Morgan & Co., we believe in transparency and education. We guide you through a personalised journey that covers all aspects of diamond and gemstone education. From understanding the 4 Cs (cut, color, clarity, and carat) to explaining the craftsmanship that goes into creating a bespoke ring, we empower you with the knowledge to make an informed decision. After all, knowledge is power, and understanding the process ensures that you're investing in a piece that will last a lifetime.
3. Social Expectations and Online Pressure
In the age of social media, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by online trends and societal expectations. Many couples feel pressured to choose rings that meet the standards of what they see online, even if it doesn't align with their personal tastes or budget.
Our Solution —
At Morgan & Co., we offer a luxurious yet affordable bespoke solution that allows you to design a ring that reflects your unique style and story, without feeling the need to conform to outside pressures. Whether it's a classic design or something entirely custom, our team works closely with you to create a piece that feels authentic and special—one that transcends trends and truly reflects your love story.

That’s why we offer bespoke consultations to guide you through the entire process, ensuring your ring is a unique reflection of your love story. Whether you have a clear vision or need inspiration, our team is here to help you create a timeless piece that feels just right.

Step 1: Initial Consultation - Your Vision, Our Expertise
Your free consultation begins with a conversation about your vision. We’ll discuss your preferences, from diamond shapes and metals to your style inspirations. Whether you’re drawn to classic solitaires, intricate vintage designs, or something entirely unique, this is the time to share your ideas. Our bespoke team will offer insights based on your preferences, helping you discover what resonates most with you and your partner. We use this time for you to try on different diamond shapes. We believe that it is always best to see the shape on your hand to ensure it suits your finger size and hand shape.
Step 2: Hand-Selecting Your Diamond or Gemstone
One of the most exciting parts of the consultation is choosing the centre stone for your engagement ring. At Morgan & Co, we pride ourselves on offering both natural and cultured diamonds, all ethically sourced and certified for quality. We also offer a stunning selection of coloured gemstones for those seeking something distinctive. During this phase, we’ll guide you through the different options, helping you select a stone that aligns with your values, style, and budget. We will bring in diamonds for you to view and hand select. This way you are choosing the size and shape that best suits you and your budget.
Step 3: Designing Your Ring
Once your stone has been selected, the next step is to design the ring itself. During this stage, we’ll help you determine the right setting, metal, and design elements to ensure the ring is cohesive and complementary to your stone. We offer various design inspirations, from timeless classics to modern, avant-garde styles, allowing you to personalise every detail of your ring. Our team will provide recommendations, professional drawings and CAD designs to bring your vision to life. These drawings are complementary and can be altered until you are 100% happy.
Step 4: Crafting Your Bespoke Ring
After finalising the design, our master jewellers will begin crafting your bespoke engagement ring. Each piece is handcrafted with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring it reflects the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship. This process typically takes several weeks, as we pour our dedication into every step to create a ring that will last a lifetime. We use recycled gold and each piece is made in Australia.
Step 5: The Final Reveal - Your Forever Piece
Once your ring is completed and after we go through our vigorous quality control, we will schedule a final reveal, where you will see the finished piece for the first time. This is a moment to celebrate and is a truly special occasion. If your ring requires a resize, we offer this complementary.

Wedding Trends We Love
At Morgan & Co, we’ve seen many exciting wedding trends emerge this year that are both inspiring and unique. From creative twists on traditional ceremonies to modern celebrations of love, couples today are personalising their big day like never before. Here are a few wedding trends that we absolutely love —

Dress Changes — From Formal to Party
One of the most fun trends we’re seeing is the bride's mid-day dress change. Brides are now opting for two distinct looks—one for the ceremony and another for the reception. The ceremony often features a more traditional or formal gown, but as the celebration shifts from serious vows to joyous dancing, brides are changing into something more playful and comfortable. Think sleek cocktail dresses, or shorter, statement-making dresses perfect for dancing the night away. This dual-look approach allows brides to express multiple facets of their personality while also ensuring they feel both fabulous and free as the party unfolds.
Intimate Gatherings & Micro Weddings
The trend of intimate gatherings and micro weddings continues to gain popularity. Couples are embracing the beauty of smaller, more personal celebrations, often limited to their closest friends and family. These micro weddings focus on quality over quantity, allowing couples to create meaningful and memorable experiences. With fewer guests, there’s more room for thoughtful details—like personalised place settings, gourmet dining, and unique keepsakes. The smaller scale also means more time to truly connect with every guest, which is often one of the most cherished parts of the day.

Ceremony Friday, Party Saturday
Why limit the celebration to one day when you can spread it over two? Many couples are choosing to have their formal ceremony on Friday, followed by a relaxed reception or party on Saturday. This approach allows couples to enjoy a more intimate ceremony with family and then kick off the fun the next day with friends. The extra day creates space for relaxation, mingling, and extended celebrations without feeling rushed. It also gives everyone more time to savour the weekend, allowing for multiple outfit changes, diverse menus, and different venues for each part of the celebration.
On the Day Content Creators
Capturing the magic of a wedding day has always been essential, but the way it’s being done has taken a modern twist. Enter the "On the Day Content Creators." These professionals focus on real-time capturing and sharing of the day's most memorable moments—think behind-the-scenes snaps, candid videos, and Instagram Stories that guests can enjoy right away. It’s an exciting way for couples to capture the authentic energy of their wedding while giving guests something to engage with as the day unfolds. Content creators ensure that every laugh, tear, and dance move is documented for instant memories and future nostalgia.

Engagement Party Turns Surprise Wedding
One of the boldest trends we’re seeing is the engagement party turned surprise wedding. Couples are skipping the months of wedding planning stress by inviting guests to what seems like a regular engagement celebration, only to surprise everyone with an actual wedding. This trend is full of excitement and spontaneity— guests arrive thinking they’re celebrating the couple’s engagement, only to find out they’re attending the wedding! It’s the ultimate way to keep the celebration intimate and focused on the moment, while also delighting guests with an unforgettable surprise.
Embracing the Trends While Staying True to Your Story
At Morgan & Co, we love how these wedding trends give couples the opportunity to create celebrations that truly reflect their personalities and love stories. Whether you’re embracing the shift to a more intimate wedding, planning multiple outfits for different parts of the day, or surprising your guests with a wedding instead of an engagement party, the focus is on making your day uniquely yours.
As trends evolve, so does our commitment to crafting bespoke jewellery that captures your love’s essence. Whether you’re planning a micro wedding or an all-weekend event, your rings and jewellery will be a lasting symbol of your special day, reflecting the timeless beauty of your love.
We can't wait to see how our loved couples make these trends their own!
