Exploring the Beauty of Sapphires: A Closer Look
While diamonds are the most traditional choice for an engagement ring design, coloured gemstones, especially sapphires, are becoming an increasingly popular choice due to their makeup and vibrancy.
Morgan & Co has seen a rising demand for sapphires, and in particular, Australian Sapphires. From deep sea blue, rich forest green and mixed colours such as yellow/blue parti sapphires, there is no end tot array of colours to choose from.
With a Mohs hardness of 9/10, sapphires are only second to the diamond. Sapphires are one of the hardest gemstones and are incredibly durable. This means sapphires are resistant to scratches, chips, and other damage that can occur with daily wear. The superior durability of sapphires makes them ideal for an engagement ring to be worn and adored every day. This makes a sapphire one of Morgan & Co’s most popular coloured stone of choice.

Versatility and Variety
Sapphires look amazing paired with other gemstones such as diamonds. Diamond halos or diamond side stones allow you to enjoy not just a pop of colour but also the traditional diamond. Sapphires look amazing in a variety of metals such as platinum, white gold, yellow gold and rose gold.
Sapphires are cut in a full range of beautiful shapes including round, oval, cushion, emerald and also off centre cuts. You are able to choose the perfect shape that complements your hand and skin tone. Book your complementary consultation with us and request for your desired shaped and coloured sapphires you would like to view. Our team will bring in an array of sapphires for you to choose from for you custom made engagement ring.
Value
When comparing the price of a sapphire against that of a diamond, sapphires are more affordable per carat compared to diamonds of the same size.

A Little Trivia About Sapphires
— If you were born in the month of September, the Sapphire is your birthstone.
— Sapphire symbolises both the 5th and 45th wedding anniversaries.
— Sapphires are heavier than a diamond. If you compare a one carat diamond and a one carat sapphire, the sapphire will appear visually larger.
— Australian sapphires have the ability to change colour under different light sources.
Sapphires have always been a symbol of royalty for centuries. Our clients who choose a sapphire engagement ring is a testament to high end elegance and class. Each sapphire sourced by Morgan & Co is carefully sourced either from across the globe or within Australia. We ensure superior quality and that our sapphires are ethically sourced.

Planning the Perfect Proposal: A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating an Unforgettable Moment
Proposing is one of life’s most cherished and unforgettable moments, a milestone that symbolises the start of a new chapter in your love story. At Morgan & Co., we’re here to guide you every step of the way, from planning the perfect proposal to creating a bespoke engagement ring that your partner will treasure forever. This guide will walk you through the key elements of planning a memorable proposal while introducing you to creative ways to ensure the engagement ring is as unique and meaningful as your love.
Step 1: Know Your Partner’s Preferences
Understanding your partner’s style is an essential first step in the proposal planning process. Take note of their jewellery preferences — do they gravitate towards timeless and classic designs or bold and modern pieces? If you’re unsure, our expert team can guide you by exploring their lifestyle, interests, and even their social media profiles to uncover subtle clues about their dream ring.
Step 2: Get the Ring Right
The engagement ring is more than a piece of jewellery — it’s a lasting symbol of your love story. At Morgan & Co., we’ve designed a six-step process to make creating your perfect engagement ring seamless and enjoyable. Whether you have a clear vision or need a bit of guidance, we’ll ensure the ring reflects your unique love story.
Our Six-Step Process:
- Enquiry: Book your free consultation online, via phone, or email.
- Consultation: Work with us in-person, over the phone, or via video to define your design vision.
- Sourcing: We’ll source the highest quality diamonds or coloured gemstones to suit your preferences and budget.
- Design: Collaborate with us to finalise the ring design, with unlimited revisions until it’s perfect.
- Production: Your ring will be expertly crafted in Australia by skilled artisans.
- Completion: Your completed ring will undergo rigorous quality checks before being ready for pickup or delivery.
Step 3: Choose the Perfect Location
The setting of your proposal plays a significant role in creating a memorable experience. Whether it’s a scenic beach, a lush garden, or a place with sentimental value, choose a location that feels special to your relationship. Read our blog on Top Places to Propose on the Sunshine Coast for some stunning ideas.

Step 4: Alternative Proposal ideas — keeping the surprise but allow her to design her own ring
Not sure how to propose while ensuring the ring is perfect? Here are three creative ideas to help you keep the surprise while giving your partner the opportunity to help design her dream ring:
1. Propose with a Loose Diamond or Coloured Stone
This modern approach involves selecting a loose diamond or gemstone to present during the proposal. During our consultation, we’ll guide you through diamond education, covering everything from shapes and quality to your partner’s style and your budget.
Once you’ve chosen the perfect stone, propose with it and bring your partner back to our Buderim studio to design the ring together over champagne. This thoughtful approach combines the excitement of the proposal with the joy of creating a bespoke piece she’ll love.
2. Propose with a Placeholder or Stunt Ring
For those who want to surprise their partner while giving them control over the final design, a placeholder ring is an excellent choice. We offer a selection of stunning placeholder rings at our Buderim studio for a $1,000 deposit, which is deducted from the final cost of the engagement ring.
After the proposal, you and your fiancé can visit our studio together to co-create the ring of her dreams. She’ll have the opportunity to personalise the design, ensuring it’s everything she’s ever wanted.
3. Propose and Visit Our Studio the Same Day
If spontaneity is your style, consider proposing and then bringing your partner straight to our Buderim studio to celebrate. We’ll greet you with champagne, flowers, and a gift to commemorate the occasion.
You can also work with us beforehand to design a ring concept or select a range of diamonds and gemstones for her to choose from during the visit. This approach blends the surprise of the proposal with the joy of customising her forever ring.

Step 5: Plan the Details
It’s the small details that make a proposal unforgettable. Think about incorporating meaningful touches such as candles, flowers, or your favourite song. These thoughtful elements will create a romantic atmosphere and make the moment even more special.
Step 6: Practice What You’ll Say
While the ring and setting are important, your words will be what your partner remembers most. Take some time to reflect on your feelings and practice expressing them. Whether it’s a heartfelt declaration or a story about your journey together, speak from the heart.
Step 7: Capture the Moment
Don’t forget to document this once-in-a-lifetime moment! Consider hiring a photographer or videographer to discreetly capture the proposal. Involving loved ones, if your partner would enjoy that, can also make the experience even more memorable. Read our blog on stunning locations and photography tips and explore our recommended photographers who will capture your moment perfectly.

Ready to Plan Your Perfect Proposal?
At Morgan & Co, we’re here to ensure every detail of your proposal is as special as your love story. From designing a bespoke engagement ring to celebrating your "Yes!" moment, we’re dedicated to making this milestone unforgettable.

Unique Rings, Sunshine Coast
Hi, I'm Laura, Co-owner of Morgan & Co Jewellery, Buderim. It's a Friday night and I am sitting on the couch thinking about some of the most unique and innovative engagement ring designs I have come across over the last month. Whether you're looking for something unique or are just interested in the creative, these ring ideas may inspire your choice for your own engagement ring.
Here at Morgan & Co we are fortunate to be a part of many unique engagement designs. Last month we had a client that was excited to create for his girlfriend a special engagement ring that is inspired by nature and it's these rings that we love creating more than anything!
Nature Inspired Engagement Rings
Nature inspired rings are becoming increasingly popular. We have had many clients build their own ring who are drawn to nature. Creating a ring that incorporates elements such as floral motifs or vine designs really speaks volumes. Imagine a ring with delicate petals or a band that looks like intertwined leaves, or a band that is wave-like, a node to the sea.
The Laurel Ring was created to reflect a flower, with it's soft rose gold petals. The ruby centre stone is the real hero of this engagement ring.

The Theresa Ring is another favourite of ours. Our client came to us and expressed how his fiancé is drawn to forestry colours and loves the green colours in nature. We helped him choose a stunning natural parti sapphire to feature in his partner's ring, reflecting the forest, greenery and trees that she so loves about her home on the Sunshine Coast.
Vintage & Antique Style Engagement Rings
I love the romance of something timeless, a nod to vintage and Art Deco designs. I have had the pleasure to help one of our clients design a beautiful engagement ring that incorporated elements of the Victoria era. With intricate details and coloured gems as the centrepieces. The end results, an exquisite a tiny piece of history in the form of a ring.

Modern & Minimalist Engagement Rings
I adore geometric shapes, think hexagon, squares and eye shapes. East to west settings, where the stone is set horizontally is a very modern twist on both elegance and uniqueness. Some of my favourite pieces that encompass the modern and minimalist brief are The Roberta Ring, The Nina Ring and The Emma Ring.
Personalise Your Engagement Ring
Nothing says unique like an addition to your engagement ring that is special only to you. At Morgan & Co we love to incorporate birthstones, either for the couple or to honour a family member. Engraving a hidden message or a significant date inside the band makes it even more special. We offer complementary engraving to all of our custom pieces. Book your free consultation with us to chat with our bespoke team about creating your forever ring.
Unique Setting
Choosing your forever stone for your engagement ring is a process that is not taken lightly at Morgan & Co. Once you have decided on the stone that suits your finger, the next step is the setting. We take as much time as needed to get the setting perfect, settings can dramatically change the look of a ring on your finger. I have found that our modern brides are leaning more towards unique settings. A new trend is emerging, the tension settings. This is a setting that we will see a lot more leading into 2025. The setting allows the stone to appear to float between the band. Another popular setting that has made a resurgence in the Bezel set engagement ring. This statement setting has become 2024’s top must have. With Morgan Co’s premium gold the bezel metal surrounding the stone, offer a sleek, modern aesthetic.
Coloured Gemstones
While diamonds are classic, at Morgan & Co, Sunshine Coast we have seen our clients wanting an alternative gemstone. We have access to an array of precious gemstones and only buy the highest grade stones for our clients. We are honoured to be able to source the best of Australian Sapphires. These precious stones come in many different colours, from green, blue, yellow to anything in between.
I hope these ideas inspire you as much as they inspire me. Whether you're on the hunt for the perfect engagement ring or just love beautiful jewellery, Morgan & Co Sunshine Coast is here for you. We look forward to seeing you soon!
With Love,

How Do I Choose My Engagement Ring or Wedding Band Profile?
Choosing Your Wedding Band and Engagement Band Profile
Hello, I'm Morgan from Morgan & Co Jewellery in Buderim. One of the most exciting aspects of designing your wedding and engagement rings is selecting the perfect band profile. Each profile has its own unique characteristics, and the right choice can beautifully complement your gemstone and personal style. Today, I’d like to guide you through the various band profiles we offer, including Knife's Edge, Half Round Band, Flat Profile, Contour, and High Dome Profile, and help you find the perfect match for your dream ring.
Knife's Edge Profile
The Knife's Edge profile is a striking and distinctive choice. It features a central ridge that runs along the top of the band, creating a sharp, angular look. This profile is perfect for those who want a bold and modern aesthetic. It pairs well with various gemstone shapes, but it particularly enhances round and oval cuts by providing a dynamic contrast. While it’s a unique and eye-catching option, some may find it less comfortable due to its sharper edges.

Half Round Band
The Half Round band is the most popular choice for wedding and engagement rings, and for good reason. This profile has a slightly domed exterior with a flat interior, offering a classic and timeless look. Its gentle curvature provides a comfortable fit, making it ideal for everyday wear. The versatility of the Half Round band means it complements almost any gemstone shape, especially ovals and round cuts. Its understated elegance makes it a favourite among many brides and grooms and is our most common band for custom designed engagement rings at Morgan & Co.

Flat Profile
A Flat Profile band features a sleek, modern design with a flat surface and straight edges. This profile is perfect for those who prefer a minimalist and contemporary look. It pairs beautifully with more square gemstones such as Radiant Cut, Emerald Cut, or Princess Cut diamonds. The clean lines of the Flat Profile create a cohesive and streamlined appearance, enhancing the geometric beauty of these gemstone shapes. Additionally, its flat surface allows for easier stacking with other bands.

Bellini Profile
The Bellini profile offers a more pronounced curvature than the Half Round band. It features a rounded exterior that provides a substantial and luxurious feel. This profile is ideal for those who want a ring with a classic yet bold presence. The Bellini band pairs wonderfully with oval or east-to-west oval settings, enhancing their elegant and elongated shapes. Its rounded surface also provides a comfortable fit, making it suitable for everyday wear.

Matching Profiles with Gemstones
When choosing your band profile, it’s essential to consider how it complements your gemstone. For example, a Flat Profile band goes exceptionally well with square gemstones like Radiant Cut, Emerald Cut, or Princess Cut diamonds. The clean lines of the band accentuate the geometric precision of these cuts.
On the other hand, a Half Round or High Dome band is perfect for oval or east-to-west oval settings. The gentle curves of these profiles enhance the soft, elongated shape of the oval gemstone, creating a harmonious and balanced look.
Why Half Round Bands are Popular
Half Round bands are the most popular choice because of their timeless appeal and versatility. They offer a classic look that never goes out of style and can complement any gemstone shape. Additionally, their slight curvature provides a comfortable fit, making them ideal for everyday wear. The Half Round band’s understated elegance and versatility make it a beloved choice for many couples.
Final Thoughts
At Morgan & Co, we are committed to helping you find the perfect wedding and engagement bands that reflect your unique style and love story. Whether you prefer the modern look of a Knife's Edge profile, the timeless elegance of a Half Round band, or the sleek lines of a Flat Profile, we have something for everyone.
Our free consultations allow you to explore various band profiles and gemstone combinations, ensuring that your ring is as unique as your love. We source the highest quality diamonds and gemstones to match your vision and budget, and our team is here to guide you every step of the way.
Choosing the right band profile is a personal and significant decision, and we are here to make the process enjoyable and memorable. Visit us at our Buderim studio, and let's create the perfect ring together.
The Marquise Diamond Guide
The Timeless Appeal of the Marquise Cut Diamond
Hello, I'm Morgan from Morgan & Co Jewellery in Buderim, and today I'd love to share some insights for one of the most elegant and unique diamond cuts, the marquise. The marquise cut diamond is a stunning choice for engagement rings and other fine jewellery, offering a unique blend of history, elegance, and versatility.
The Fascinating History of the Marquise Diamond
The marquise cut dates back to the 18th century, commissioned by King Louis XV of France. He desired a diamond that resembled the lips of his beloved mistress, the Marquise de Pompadour. The result was the marquise cut, also known as the navette cut, meaning "little boat" in French, due to its boat-like shape.
Why the Marquise is Popular Today
Today, the marquise cut remains a popular choice for those seeking a diamond that stands out. Its elongated shape not only creates an illusion of greater size but also makes fingers appear longer and more slender. This timeless cut is favoured by those who appreciate a vintage charm with a modern touch.
Design Versatility of the Marquise Cut
One of the most exciting aspects of the marquise cut is its versatility in design. Here are a few designs that we love —
2 Claw with Shoulders — This design highlights the marquise shape with delicate claws holding the ends, often complemented by diamond shoulders that add extra sparkle. The claws at the end of a marquise cut diamond need to be covered for protection to ensure that if your marquise stone is knocked, it doesn't cause a crack.
East to West — For a contemporary twist, the marquise diamond is set horizontally, creating a unique and eye-catching piece. This setting can be achieved with a half bezel, or capped, look and also with shoulders and claws.
Classic 6 Claw — This traditional setting offers a secure hold while emphasising the diamond’s elongated form.
Twisted Band or Diamond Band — For added flair, consider a twisted band design or one encrusted with smaller diamonds to enhance the central marquise stone’s brilliance.
What to Avoid When Searching for a Marquise Cut Diamond
When searching for the perfect marquise diamond, it's crucial to consider a few key factors —
Bow Tie Effect — A common issue with marquise cuts is the "bow tie effect," where a shadow resembling a bow tie appears across the centre of the diamond. While a slight bow tie can add character, an overly prominent one detracts from the diamond's beauty. To avoid this, it's essential to view the diamond in various lighting conditions.
Reputable Jeweller — Choosing a trusted jeweller like Morgan & Co is vital. We source diamonds specifically for your price point and requirements, ensuring you receive a stone of the highest quality. Our expertise helps you navigate the nuances of diamond selection, avoiding common mistakes. We strongly advise not to purchase your marquise diamond online.

Book your complementary consultation where we can bring in a selection of either natural or lab grown marquise diamonds for you to hand select for your engagement ring.
Best Setting Styles for Marquise Cut Diamonds
The setting plays a significant role in showcasing the beauty of a marquise cut diamond. Here are some styles that work particularly well —
V-Prong Setting — Protects the pointed ends of the marquise while offering a sleek and elegant look.
Bezel Setting — Encircles the diamond in metal, providing extra security and a modern aesthetic.
Halo Setting — Surrounds the marquise with smaller diamonds, enhancing its sparkle and creating a stunning visual impact.

At Morgan & Co, we take pride in helping our clients create unique and personalised engagement rings. From selecting the perfect marquise diamond to designing a custom setting, we guide you through every step of the process. Our free consultations offer diamond education and the opportunity to handpick your diamond, ensuring your ring is perfect for you and your personal style as well as your price point.

What Are Ethically Sourced Diamonds?
What Are Ethically Sourced Diamonds and Should I Choose a Natural or Lab-Grown Diamond for My Engagement Ring?
Hello, I'm Morgan, co-owner of Morgan & Co Jewellery on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. Today, I'd like to share some insights about ethically sourced diamonds and help you decide whether a natural or lab-grown diamond is the right choice for your engagement ring.
What Are Ethically Sourced Diamonds?
Ethically sourced diamonds are diamonds that are mined or created with a focus on ethical practices, ensuring they do not contribute to environmental harm, human rights abuses, or funding of conflicts. These diamonds are traced from their origin to ensure they comply with strict labor, trade, and environmental standards. Compared to traditional natural diamonds, which can sometimes come from conflict zones and have a higher environmental impact, ethically sourced diamonds offer a more responsible and sustainable option.

Natural Diamonds vs. Lab-Grown Diamonds
Natural Diamonds —
Natural diamonds are formed deep within the Earth's mantle over billions of years. Their unique geological journey makes each one truly one-of-a-kind. Natural diamonds often come with a premium price tag due to their rarity, the extensive mining process, and the higher costs associated with ethical sourcing.
Lab-Grown Diamonds —
Lab-grown diamonds, otherwise known as cultured cured diamonds, on the other hand, are created in controlled laboratory environments using advanced technology that replicates the natural diamond formation process. These diamonds are chemically, physically, and optically identical to natural diamonds but come at a fraction of the price. The lower cost is due to the shorter production time and more efficient manufacturing process. You can not tell the difference between a lab grown and natural diamond, not even a trained gemologist can determine the difference. It takes thousand of dollars worth of machinery to distinguish the difference between the two types of diamonds.
View our collection of Most Loved Engagement Ring Designs.
The Value of Lab-Grown and Natural Diamonds
Natural Diamonds —
Natural diamonds have long been seen as a symbol of romance, love and commitment. They often hold more traditional value and are considered by some to be more prestigious due to their natural origin and rarity.
Lab-Grown Diamonds —
Lab-grown diamonds are a fantastic alternative for those who want a stunning, high-quality diamond without the higher price tag. They are often more affordable, allowing you to get a larger or higher quality diamond within your budget. Additionally, they are considered more environmentally friendly, as they don't require mining.
You can achieve between a .80ct brilliant round natural diamond of reasonable quality for approximately $10,000 - $12,000. For the same price, you would get change from a 2ct highest quality lab grown diamond.

Why Is There a Big Price Difference?
The price difference between natural and lab-grown diamonds is primarily due to the production process and market perception. Natural diamonds require extensive mining operations, which are costly and labor-intensive. Lab-grown diamonds are produced more efficiently and quickly, reducing the overall cost. However, both types of diamonds offer beautiful, high-quality options for your engagement ring.
Ethically Sourced Diamonds at Morgan & Co
At Morgan & Co, we are committed to sourcing the highest quality ethical diamonds, both natural and lab-grown. We believe in offering our clients choices that align with their values and preferences. The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Perfect Diamond Stud Earrings
When it comes to timeless elegance and versatility, few pieces of jewellery can compete with the beauty of diamond stud earrings. Whether worn daily or reserved for special occasions, they are an essential staple in any jewellery collection. At Morgan & Co, we believe that every woman deserves to shine, which is why we offer a stunning range of diamond studs in various shapes, sizes, and settings to suit your style and budget.
Why Diamond Studs Are a Must-Have
Diamond stud earrings are the epitome of sophistication and timeless appeal. Unlike trendy jewellery pieces that may fall out of fashion, a classic pair of diamond studs will always be in style. They effortlessly complement any outfit, from casual everyday wear to formal attire, making them one of the most versatile investments in fine jewellery.

Our Favourite Diamond Shapes for Stud Earrings
The shape of your diamond studs plays a significant role in their overall appearance. Here are my top five favourite diamond shapes for stud earrings:
1. Round Brilliant Cut
My personal favourite, the round brilliant cut, is a timeless classic. With 58 facets designed to maximise light reflection, round diamonds sparkle beautifully, making them the most popular choice for diamond studs. For a sleek and modern look, you may opt for a martini setting, which allows the diamond to sit closer to the ear. If you prefer a more traditional style, a bezel setting adds a refined touch while offering extra security.
2. Oval Cut
Coming in at number two is the oval shape. Oval diamonds offer a unique and elegant twist on the classic round stud. Their elongated shape creates an illusion of greater size and adds a touch of sophistication to any look. Oval studs are perfect for those who love a distinctive yet timeless design.
3. Cushion Cut
Cushion cut diamonds have soft, rounded edges that exude romance and charm. With their vintage-inspired appeal, cushion studs bring a sense of old-world glamour while maintaining a modern elegance. Their unique faceting enhances their brilliance, making them a stunning choice for diamond studs.
4. Marquise Cut
For those who love a bit of drama, marquise-cut diamonds are an excellent choice. Their elongated shape is both flattering and eye-catching, giving the illusion of a larger diamond. Marquise studs add a touch of boldness and individuality to your jewellery collection.
5. Radiant Cut
If you love maximum sparkle, radiant cut diamonds are for you. Known for their incredible fire and brilliance, radiant studs combine the best features of the emerald and round cuts, resulting in a dazzling effect. They’re perfect for those who want to make a statement with their diamond studs.
Selecting the Perfect Diamond Size
The size of your diamond studs will determine how subtle or striking they appear. If you prefer a delicate look, smaller carat weights such as 0.25ct or 0.50ct per ear offer a refined sparkle. For a more noticeable presence, 1.00ct or larger per ear creates a bold and luxurious statement. At Morgan & Co, we can help guide you through the ideal size based on your personal style and budget.
Choosing the Right Setting
The setting of your diamond studs is crucial in determining their overall look and security.
-
Bezel Setting: A bezel setting encases the diamond with a thin metal rim, providing a sleek and modern look while offering maximum protection for the stone.
-
Martini Setting: A martini setting has a conical shape, allowing the diamond to sit flush against the ear for a minimalist and sophisticated appearance.
-
Four-Prong Setting: The classic four-prong setting holds the diamond securely while allowing maximum light to pass through, enhancing its brilliance.
Understanding Earring Backs
The right earring backing ensures your diamond studs remain secure and comfortable. At Morgan & Co, we offer three main types:
-
Push Backs: The most common and easy-to-use option, push backs are great for everyday wear.
-
Screw Backs: These provide extra security by threading onto the post, making them less likely to fall off.
-
Locking Backs: The most secure option, locking backs feature a mechanism that firmly holds the earrings in place, offering peace of mind for valuable diamond studs.

Why Choose Morgan & Co for Your Diamond Studs?
At Morgan & Co, we understand that choosing the perfect diamond stud earrings is a deeply personal decision. That’s why our team is dedicated to guiding you through every step of the process, from selecting the perfect diamond shape to choosing the right setting and backing for your lifestyle. Our bespoke service allows you to customise your studs to match your style and preferences, ensuring that you walk away with a pair that you’ll treasure for a lifetime.

June's Birthstones — Exploring Peals, Alexandrites & Moonstones
We love it when the calendar ticks over to a new month. The 1st of every month heralds in a new birthstone. If you are lucky enough to be born in June you have three stones to choose from: pearl, alexandrite and moonstone.

So what is so special about each of these stones?
Pearl
Appearance — Pearls are organic gemstones formed within mollusks. They are known for their lustrous and smooth surface, which can come in various colours, including white, cream, pink, and black.
Significance — Pearls are associated with purity, wisdom, and loyalty. They have been valued for centuries for their elegance and natural beauty.
Alexandrite
Appearance — Alexandrite is a rare and unique gemstone known for its remarkable colour-changing ability. It appears green in daylight and changes to red or purplish-red under incandescent light.
Significance — Alexandrite symbolises balance, creativity, and good fortune. Its ability to change colour is often seen as a metaphor for adaptability and transformation.
Moonstone
Appearance — Moonstones are characterised by their ethereal, milky sheen known as adularescence, which creates a glowing effect. They can be found in colours like white, grey, blue, and peach.
Significance — Moonstones are linked to intuition, inspiration, and emotional balance. They are believed to have a calming and healing effect.
We are often asked if pearls can be used in the creation of an engagement ring. Pearls can be a beautiful and unique choice however, there are several factors to consider before making a decision to choose a pearl for your forever ring.
Pros of Pearl Engagement Rings
Elegance and Uniqueness: Pearls offer a classic, timeless beauty that can set an engagement ring apart from the more common diamond rings.
Variety — Pearls come in various colours and types, including Akoya, South Sea, Tahitian, and freshwater pearls, providing options for customisation.
Cons of Pearl Engagement Rings
Durability — Pearls are relatively soft compared to other gemstones, ranking about 2.5-4.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. They can be easily scratched, chipped, or damaged with daily wear, which is a significant consideration for an engagement ring intended for everyday use.
Maintenance — Pearls require more care to maintain their lustre. They are sensitive to chemicals, including those found in everyday products like lotions, perfumes, and household cleaners.
Setting Protection — To protect a pearl in an engagement ring, the setting must be designed to offer additional protection, such as a bezel setting or protective prongs, which can affect the overall design.
If you are still keen to have pearl in your engagement ring here are some tips to consider
Type of Setting: Choose a setting that offers protection to the pearl, such as a bezel or halo setting.
Combining with Other Gemstones —Consider a design that incorporates pearls with other gemstones, such as diamonds, for added durability and sparkle.
Regular Maintenance — Be prepared for regular maintenance and gentle cleaning to keep the pearl looking its best.
Quality of the Pearl — Look for high-quality pearls with good lustre, smooth surface, and minimal blemishes.

Alexandrite & Moonstones
Alexandrite and moonstones are two of the most enchanting gemstones that can add a touch of magic to any jewellery collection. Alexandrite, renowned for its mesmerising colour-changing properties, shifts from green in daylight to red under incandescent light, making it a dynamic and intriguing choice for jewellery. Moonstones, with their ethereal adularescence that casts a soft glow reminiscent of moonlight, offer a serene and mystical allure. At Morgan & Co on the Sunshine Coast, we love crafting unique jewellery pieces with these captivating gems. Imagine a stunning alexandrite pendant or dress ring that dazzles with different hues depending on the light, or a delicate moonstone pendant that shimmers softly against the skin. From elegant earrings to bespoke necklaces and timeless bracelets, the possibilities are endless. These gemstones are perfect for creating one-of-a-kind pieces that are as unique as the wearer, each telling its own story through the play of light and colour.
It is very rare that alexandrite or moonstones are requested to be set into an engagement ring; however, either stones can be placed within the engagement ring band as a special hidden stone. We do not use pearls as hidden stones due to the explanation above.
Conclusion
While pearls can make a stunning and unique choice for an engagement ring, they do require careful consideration due to their softness and need for extra care. If you or your partner loves the look of pearls and is willing to take the necessary precautions to protect them, a pearl engagement ring can be a beautiful and meaningful option. However, if durability and low maintenance are top priorities, you might want to consider other gemstones.

Sky & Jack's Love Story
We recently had the pleasure of assisting beautiful couple, Sky & Jack with creating their new forever engagement ring.
Read on for an exclusive interview, which details their special proposal journey and experience with our Morgan & Co Bespoke Team.

Was there anything in particular that drew you to work with us?
"I first came across your Instagram page a couple of years ago. Aside from thinking your jewellery was beautiful, I loved that Morgan & Co is a small, independent, female-led business. It was evident you both really care and want the whole experience of choosing a ring to be personal. The fact you source diamonds ethically was also really important."
Which ring did you choose/design for your forever piece, and why?
"We initially came into the studio together and met with Morgan and Laura, and I tried on lots of different rings to get an idea of what I liked.
When I put the marquise ring on, I unexpectedly got really emotional and we all knew then, it was the one! Then Jack worked with you to design the final ring - a custom made 14ct white gold engagement ring featuring a 1.08ct natural marquise." — View The Sky Ring.
What was your favourite part of your Morgan & Co experience?
"Spending hours in the studio chatting with Morgan and Laura about everything during the initial consultation. They felt like family friends that we had known forever! We came away with so much knowledge and it was great to feel so involved in the process."
Tell us a little bit about your proposal.
"Jack proposed during a stopover in Zürich. We were in the Old Town by the river, with views out to the Swiss Alps - it was beautiful. We were then able to celebrate with all our friends and family back home in England afterwards which was really special."
Sky's 5 Star Review
" Every step of the process was personal and seamless. Morgan and Laura are so passionate, patient, and knowledgeable, and they really took the time to get to know us and what we were looking for when choosing an engagement ring. A totally different experience to any other jeweller we visited. Would highly recommend!"
