The Rising Price of Gold & How it Significantly Impacted the Fine Jewellery Industry
The rising price of gold has significantly impacted the fine jewellery industry. The increase in gold prices impacts the production of gold jewellery leading to higher retail prices for our clients.
Why has the price of gold increased significantly over the past twelve months?
The key drivers that are influencing the increase in gold prices all over the world include —
- Geopolitical tensions particularly in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine. War always heightens the demand for gold as gold is a safe commodity to store as an asset.
- Federal Reserve rate cuts. All nations have experienced rate cuts across the board. The outcome is lower Treasury yields in all developed Nations which makes gold more attractive than bonds.
- Central banks. Central banks all over the world, especially the USA and China have accelerated their accumulation of gold to bolster their reserves.
- These combined factors including the closure of some of the world's biggest producers of gold has not helped.
Due to the ongoing conflicts and political instability several large gold mines have either closed or their operation has been disrupted. PNG, Ethiopia to name just a few.
Why is gold important in engagement ring design?
Gold is crucial for creating well made, sturdy engagement rings. The reason gold is the preferred metal is that it is malleable and a durable metal. This allows Morgan Co to craft intricate, detailed designs while maintaining the strength required for everyday wear. Every woman wants peace of mind to know that their precious ring is safe.
The structural integrity of your engagement ring will depend on the type and amount of gold used in the design and manufacturing.
A higher carat weight such as 18ct gold is softer and more pliable. The amount of pure gold is higher than in 14 or 9ct gold. Making 18ct gold is the most expensive choice when deciding on carat weight.
A lower carat weight, 14ct will include other alloys which makes the gold less pliable but more durable. 14ct gold will cost less that 18ct gold, it is a good alternative to 18ct gold giving the ring durability and not compromising on colour of the gold.

Ring design and gold
Over the past few years the modern trend of minimalist engagement ring designs and the demand for thinner brands have had the added bonus of reducing the overall gold content in the making of the ring.
Many contemporary engagement rings feature more intricate settings or multi-stones, which prioritise gemstones over metal. These design choices allow us to reduce gold usage while maintaining high visual appeal and luxury.
However, if too little gold is used, particularly thinner bands the ring may be more prone to bending or damage over time. A balance between gold content and structural design is essential to ensure that the ring remains its strength while also meeting the clients aesthetic preferences.
Therefore, while modern designs might use less gold, the amount and quality of the gold still play a vital role in ensuring the ring's longevity and strength.
2025 Trends and Gold
2025 will see the chunky engagement ring trend gaining more momentum. The chunky style highlights bold statement rings, with wider bands and larger centre stones, sometimes in a bezel set. While stunning, these trends require more gold due to their size and weight.
The rising cost of gold over the past year adds to the challenge for those who want a chunkier, more elaborate engagement ring design. As gold prices have surged, even small increases in the metal content will significantly drive up the cost of the ring. Therefore, designs that use more gold, such as chunky rings, are becoming more expensive.

Can I use my old gold to make my engagement ring?
Yes, you can use your own gold in the design of your engagement ring. Morgan Co offers custom design services such as melting down and repurposing your old gold. The decision to use old gold can be a sentimental decision, as it allows you to incorporate gold from a family heirloom or old jewellery, creating more meaning within the engagement ring.
However, the process is tedious and time consuming and can often cost more than new gold due to the time it takes to refine the old gold into its pure form.
Gold refining process requires careful handling. We first need to assess the purity of your gold (e.g., 9ct 14ct or 18ct) to ensure it is suitable for crafting a durable ring. Sometimes, additional gold may be needed depending on the design's complexity or size. Most times it is not economical to have your old gold refined to save money only.
Minimalism v's Maximalism: Finding Your Style with Morgan & Co
When it comes to engagement rings, design choices reflect personal taste —whether you gravitate towards subtle refinement or expressive opulence. At Morgan & Co, we understand that every love story is unique, and so is every design journey. Let’s explore two popular styles shaping modern ring choices

Minimalist Elegance
Minimalism is all about simplicity and intentional design. Clean lines, smaller stones, and delicate settings create a refined, understated elegance. In minimalist rings, each detail serves a purpose, with nothing excessive to distract from the beauty of the material or the craftsmanship. Think subtle sparkle: perhaps a slim band with a single diamond or a low-profile solitaire setting that emphasises form and balance. Minimalist rings suit those who value timeless sophistication and subtle luxury. Our Stevie Ring is a beautiful example of minimalist elegance, with a stunning three claw yellow gold setting featuring a high quality lab grown pear diamond.
Maximalist Expression
On the other side of the spectrum, maximalism celebrates grandeur. With bold stones, intricate settings, and dynamic designs, these rings demand attention. Maximalism embraces an eclectic mix of elements—such as halos, pavé settings, or statement centre stones. A maximalist ring is perfect for those who want their jewellery to reflect a sense of individuality and presence. These designs create moments of awe and embody a philosophy of “more is more.” One of our favourite bold engagement rings is The Breeta Ring — this ring features a bezel set emerald in a stunning yellow gold setting with a wider half round band.

A Timeless Transformation: A Recent Custom Engagement Ring Remodel
At Morgan & Co, half of our days are spent with remodelling old and pre loved jewellery, so it was particularly exciting when a client approached us to remodel his wife's engagement ring recently, which he had purchased for her years ago. The original ring, featuring a beautiful oval sapphire and clusters of diamonds, offered a wide range of design possibilities, making the process both creative and rewarding.
View our before and after work remodel work here.
Our Client's Journey
Our client's ring was originally purchased years ago when the couple were just starting out, and it was a significant investment for the husband at the time. Now, years later, having achieved greater success, our client planned to remodel the ring into something that reflects both their accomplishments and his enduring love for his wife.
Our client, who has an incredible creative eye himself, had some ideas and specific elements in mind for the ring but was unsure how to navigate the design process. While he was uncertain about the design for the top of the ring, he was certain that he wanted the band to incorporate elements inspired by the Eiffel Tower, which holds special sentimental value for both him and his wife.
At Morgan Co, our remodelling design process consists of several appointments. The first appointment is dedicated to understanding the significance of the original ring to the client and exploring their vision for the redesign.
Laura, Morgan Co's leading remodel designer, dedicated hours to researching and sketching the initial concepts after her first consultation with our client. All the stones in the original ring were measured and documented, the client was excited to add additional sapphires to enhance the ring’s overall luxurious appearance.
During our second consultation, the sketches were presented to the client, giving him the opportunity to explore additional design possibilities if desired. Ultimately, the client chose a design concept that aligned with his vision and style. After making some adjustments to the drawing, he felt confident in letting Laura refine the ideas further and move forward with creating a CAD (Computer-Aided Design) model.

Image: CAD design Example
A CAD for an engagement ring is a detailed 3D digital model that showcases the exact design of the ring from various angles. It includes precise measurements, the shape and placement of stones, the structure of the setting, and intricate design details. The CAD allows clients and designers to visualise the ring before it's crafted, giving a clear view of how each element—whether it’s the prongs, band, or any decorative details—will look in real life. This process ensures accuracy and allows for adjustments before the actual creation of the ring begins.
In our third consultation, our client had the opportunity to review the CAD model of the remodelling concept. Laura took as much time as needed to discuss the measurements, including the ring's width and depth, how it would sit on the finger, and any changes the client wanted to make, all of which were carefully noted.
There’s no limit to the number of consultations we offer our clients—our goal is to bring their vision to life and ensuring they are 100% comfortable with their ring design and our process. With years of experience in design and redesign, we excel at understanding and refining what the client truly wants. Ensuring their desires are clearly communicated and not lost in translation is of utmost importance to us.
Our final consultation is where we officially approve the design. At this stage, the client is completely confident that the design is perfect, both in terms of aesthetics and structure. We carefully review the final adjustments to the CAD and ask the client to give their approval, allowing us to move forward with production, how exciting.
For this design, we carefully sourced small sapphires that perfectly matched the colour tone of the client’s original stone. We took great care in selecting stones that are precisely calibrated, ensuring that once set, they appear uniform and flawless with no inconsistencies.
Laura, our in-house remodelling design expert, has a true passion for these projects. She thrives on the challenge of reimagining a piece while preserving its sentimental value. If you have an old or cherished piece of jewellery you'd love to revitalise, book your complimentary consultation with Laura here.

Frequently Asked Questions About Remodelling Old Jewellery
Can I use the original stones in the remodelled design?
Absolutely! We can repurpose the original stones, whether they’re diamonds, sapphires, or other gemstones, seamlessly incorporating them into the new design. This way, you can maintain the sentimental value while refreshing the piece with a modern touch.
How long does the jewellery remodelling process take?
The timeline depends on the complexity of the design and the availability of materials. On average, the process takes anywhere from a few weeks to a couple of months. After the initial consultation and design review, we’ll provide a more precise time estimate.
Can I add new stones or metals to the existing piece?
Absolutely. We can source new gemstones or metals to enhance the design. Whether you want to add diamonds for extra sparkle or change the metal to match your current style, we can make those adjustments.
Is it possible to redesign an inherited or vintage piece?
Yes, many clients choose to remodel inherited or vintage jewellery. We can modernise the design while still maintaining the sentimental value, breathing new life into family heirlooms.
Will I be able to see a preview of the new design before it’s made?
Yes, we create a detailed CAD model of the new design before we begin production. This allows you to visualise the final piece and make any necessary changes before we proceed.
How much does jewellery remodelling cost?
The cost depends on the complexity of the redesign, the materials used, and any new gemstones or metals added. We’ll provide a detailed quote after discussing your vision and creating an initial design.
Can all types of jewellery be remodelled?
Most types of jewellery can be remodelled, including rings, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. However, the feasibility depends on the condition and structure of the original piece. During our consultation, we’ll assess whether the piece is suitable for remodelling.
Will remodelling damage the original stones or metal?
No, we take great care in handling the original materials. We use precision techniques to reset stones and reshape metal without causing damage. Before pulling apart the piece we examine the stones to make sure that they are not damaged. We provide a comprehensive report on the stones, if the stones are fragile we can then recommend to our clients the best course of action.
Can I be involved in the design process?
Definitely! We encourage collaboration throughout the remodelling process. From the initial concept to final approval, your input is key in creating a design that reflects your vision. We enjoy getting to know our clients so we can create the perfect piece that reflects their personality and lifestyle.
How do I start the remodelling process?
The first step is scheduling a consultation where we’ll discuss your goals, review the existing piece, and explore design options. From there, we’ll move on to sketches, CAD models, and final approval before starting production.
What if I’m not sure what I want the redesign to look like?
That’s perfectly okay, we will guide you through the process, offering suggestions and presenting different design options based on your preferences and the original piece.
Can you remodel jewellery with missing stones?
Yes, we can replace missing stones by sourcing gems that match the original piece or enhance the design with new gemstones. We are qualified as diamond and gem buyers so know what we are looking for.

Men's Wedding Band Trends For 2025
Here at Morgan & Co Jewellery, Sunshine Coast, we are predicting that wedding bands for men in 2025 is shaping up to be a year where personal expression meets tradition. 2024 has proven that more grooms were looking to make their bands reflect their style and personality. As a design team who get excited about unique and creative designs, we cannot wait to create pieces that go beyond the standard gold ring that has been the trend over the years.
So let’s explore the trends, styles, and timeless options for men’s wedding bands for 2025. As we head into 2025, several key trends are shaping the men’s wedding bands.
View our full collection of men's wedding bands here.

Minimalism
Simple designs with clean lines and no embellishments are still highly favoured by men who appreciate understated elegance. A plain gold band is a timeless choice and is a good start for a man who is new to wearing jewellery. It can often be a strange feeling for a man to wear a piece of jewellery if he has never done so before.
Bold Statement Rings
On the opposite end, some men are choosing bold, statement-making rings with intricate designs, large gemstones, or unusual shapes that express their personality. Signet rings and coloured wedding bands are becoming a hit choice as we lead into 2025.

Vintage & Antique Inspired
The charm of vintage-inspired rings continues to captivate grooms. These designs often feature intricate detailing like mill-grain edges or filigree, lending a romantic, old-world feel. For those who are using heirloom stones from generational pieces, it's always a beautiful way to add in a piece of the past to a new ring.
Men's Wedding Bands with Diamonds or Coloured Gems
Diamond wedding bands have been in the past reserved for the woman. However, we have seen a turn towards mens wedding bands with diamonds or coloured gems that adds a subtle yet sophisticated touch of style. A diamond in a men’s wedding band can add sparkle, symbolising eternal love, strength, and commitment. You may opt for a natural or lab grown diamond or even a coloured stone that represents your significant other's birthstone. Some of our men have added heirloom diamonds from a grandparent in their wedding bands for a sentimental touch.
If you're considering a diamond wedding band, here are some styles and considerations to keep in mind.
Single Diamond Accent
A popular option for men is a single diamond embedded into the wedding band. This design is perfect for those who want a touch of elegance without being too over the top.
Rub-Set Diamond
In this setting the diamond is flush with the surface of the band, creating a smooth, polished look. This style is perfect for men who want a diamond that doesn’t stand out too much, blending into the band seamlessly. It also is less likely to fall out.
Channel Set Diamonds
For men who prefer a bit more sparkle, channel-set diamonds are a popular choice. In this style, small diamonds are set into a groove within the band, creating a row of brilliance that is both subtle and sophisticated.
Black Diamond Wedding Bands
We have experienced a high demand for Black diamonds for men’s wedding bands over the last year. Black diamonds offer a masculine, bold, and edgy alternative to traditional white diamonds, giving the ring an alluring look.
Black Diamond Solitaire — A single black diamond set in a sleek white or yellow gold band offers a modern and stylish look.
Black Diamond Accents — For those who want something more subtle, small black diamonds can be set into the band as accents, offering a touch of darkness without overpowering the overall design.

Resin Injected Men's Wedding Bands
These are one of my personal favourites in our newest men's wedding band collection for 2025. These men's wedding rings feature a signet ring face and have resin injected in the face for an incredible and unique feature. The Archer comes in yellow, white and rose gold and you can choose from black, pink, gold, red and silver resin.Hammered Wedding Bands will become 2025's most wanted statement piece for the discerning male.
A Rugged & Timeless Choice
Hammered design wedding bands, such as this one from our men's collection, offer a rugged look that sets it apart from the traditional smooth, polished gold rings. This design is perfect for men who want a wedding band that blends modern style with an authentic, handcrafted feel.
Here’s everything you need to know about hammered wedding bands for men and why they’re an excellent choice for 2025.
What is a Hammered Wedding Band?
A hammered wedding band is characterised by its textured surface, created by striking the metal with a hammer to form small indentations. This process gives the ring a rough yet refined look.

Why Choose a Hammered Wedding Band?
Hammered wedding bands appeal to men who appreciate craftsmanship and a more rugged aesthetic.
Unique Texture — The hammered effect adds visual interest and depth to the ring, making it stand out from traditional, smooth wedding bands.
Masculine Appeal — The rough, handcrafted look of hammered bands exudes strength and durability, making them a popular choice for men who want a bold, masculine design.
Durability — The textured surface is naturally resistant to showing wear and tear, making it a practical choice for men who lead active lifestyles or work with their hands.
Timeless and Versatile — While the hammered finish gives a modern feel, it’s also a timeless design that won’t go out of style.
Men’s Signet Ring with Ceramic Inlay
Morgan & Co are proud to introduce a new line of men’s signet rings, inlaid with ceramic.
One of the most unique and striking combinations in men's wedding rings for 2025 is the signet ring with a ceramic inlay. This design merges the timeless appeal of a signet with the sleek, durable properties of ceramic, creating a bold and distinctive choice for today’s groom.
Here’s why this innovative combination is making waves in 2025, and how you can choose the perfect ceramic inlay signet ring for your wedding band.
Ceramic Inlay: A Modern Twist
Ceramic inlays are becoming increasingly popular in men's wedding bands due to their modern look and practical benefits. Here’s why ceramic is a standout material:
Durability — Ceramic is incredibly hard and scratch-resistant, making it perfect for a wedding band that will stand the test of time.
Lightweight — Despite its toughness, ceramic is lightweight, ensuring that your ring is comfortable to wear every day.
Sleek Aesthetic — Available in a variety of colours, ceramic offers a sleek, polished look that complements the metal of the ring. Black ceramic, in particular, adds a bold, contemporary contrast.
Hypoallergenic — Ceramic is hypoallergenic, making it a great choice for those with sensitive skin.

Designing a Signet Ring with Ceramic Inlay
A signet ring with a ceramic inlay combines the bold, traditional look of the signet with the modern, clean lines of ceramic. Here are a few design elements to consider:
Metal Choices
- Gold, either yellow or white, is a timeless and elegant choice for the body of the ring. A black or white ceramic inlay pairs beautifully with any shade of gold, creating a refined contrast. Morgan & Co have created signet rings with green and chocolate coloured inlays for our 2025 line.
Inlay Colours
- Black Ceramic: Black ceramic is the most popular choice for inlays, offering a bold, modern contrast against any metal. The glossy finish of black ceramic adds a sleek, minimalist edge to the ring.
- White Ceramic: For a more subtle, clean look, white ceramic inlays offer a soft contrast that feels fresh and modern, especially when paired with yellow or rose gold.
- Coloured Ceramic: We offer ceramic inlays in other colours, such as blue, green and grey, allowing for more personalisation and creativity.
Why Choose a Signet Ring with Ceramic Inlay for Your Wedding Band?
A signet ring with a ceramic inlay offers a unique blend of tradition and modernity, making it an ideal choice for the contemporary groom who values both style and symbolism. Here’s why this combination stands out:
Bold Yet Subtle — The ceramic inlay adds an understated yet striking element to the signet ring, giving it a modern edge without overpowering the classic design.
Versatile Design — A ceramic inlay signet ring strikes a balance between modern and traditional styles, making it versatile enough to wear with both casual and formal attire.
In 2025, men’s wedding band trends are all about making a statement and showcasing individuality. From the resurgence of signet rings to the rise of bold wedding bands that feature intricate designs, these styles reflect a shift towards more personal and expressive jewellery. Hammer effect rings offer a rugged, textured look that’s both stylish and masculine, while resin-injected rings introduce vibrant colours and unique finishes for those who want to stand out. Today’s grooms are embracing bold and creative options, moving away from traditional plain bands and opting for designs that truly reflect their personalities. At Morgan & Co, we love seeing how each ring tells its own story, and we’re here to help you design a wedding band that’s as unique as you are. Whether you want to go classic or push the boundaries with your style, we can guide you through the latest trends and help you create something truly special.

2025: The Year of the Chunky Engagement Ring
2025 will see a change from engagement rings made with fine settings. 2025 will be all about bold, chunky engagement rings and wedding bands and these engagement rings will certainly make a statement. At Morgan & Co, we will lead you on your journey to create the perfect ring balancing thicker bands, larger diamonds and daring designs. If a bold statement piece is what your heart desires, Morgan & Co has the answer.
Embracing the chunky trend is not a simple task.
It is important not to lose the timeless elegance of your forever ring. So here is what you need to know. The Band
The band is probably the first element of the ring design that captures the essence of the chunky engagement ring design — the key to a chunky ring is a thick band. The band can be either smooth, brushed or hammered. Almost any of Morgan & Co’s ring profiles can be used in the bold design, some of our favourites are the flat profile, also known as The Cigar Band, the Bellini profile or a traditional half round profile. The thick band highlights the ring as a whole, making the ring look and feel luxurious and rich. The Setting
The next element to think about is the setting. A dramatic setting will highlight your diamond selection, usually we recommend a large stone to balance out the chunky band. If you opt for a rounded profile chunky band, such as a high dome or bellini band, an oval or pear cut diamond would work perfectly. If you opt for a square, or flat profile, band, you might opt for a diamond with sharp edges to compliment it, such as an emerald or radiant cut diamond.Bezel Set
A bezel setting holds the centre stone in place by a gold collar that wraps around the entire stone. The bezel setting creates a smooth protective edge around any diamond or precious gem stone. The bezel setting can be either partial, covering only a part of the stone or full, encircling the entire stone.

Are Chunky Engagement Rings Comfortable To Wear?
Chunky engagement rings are truly beautiful, however there are a few factors to consider when choosing such a ring. The feel of a chunky ring on the finger feels very different from the more delicate styles. However, with the right design choice and consideration of how the ring fits, the chunky engagement ring will certainly be comfortable to wear. The main things that we at Morgan & Co keep in mind when designing your beautiful chunky engagement ring are —
The total weight of the ring, chunky rings with thick bands or multiple larger stones makes the overall feel on the finger feel different. Unlike a thinner band, the thicker band covers more surface area on the finger, this can take some getting used to. However, with time and daily wear you will get used to the feel of a heavier ring on your finger.
Your finger proportion Everyone's finger proportions are unique to them. We find that a chunky ring feels different depending on your hand and finger measurements.
It is important to choose the right overall width of a chunky ring no matter your finger size. At Morgan & Co, we are experts in getting these proportions exact.

The Fit
Our team at Morgan & Co will make sure that the fit of all engagement rings we create is personalised for each client. A perfect fit is critical especially for chunkier styles. If a ring is too tight, it can feel uncomfortable, and if it’s too loose, it may spin on your finger due to its weight. A well-fitted ring will distribute the weight evenly and stay comfortable over time. A very thick band on smaller hands might feel overwhelming, so we design your ring that balances boldness with proportion.Stones
Another way to elevate a chunky engagement ring is by incorporating more than one stone. We have seen a high demand for Toi Et Moi engagement rings this year, however next year there will be a high demand for two stones, whether it is two different types of diamonds or a diamond paired back with a coloured gemstone. Set in a chunky bank of course.
Don’t feel restricted to the classic round-cut diamond. A chunky ring can handle unique shapes like oval, emerald, pear, or marquise cuts that make the design stand out even more. These shapes elongate the finger and add a touch of elegance to an otherwise bold look.
Why It Works? A bold shape amplifies the chunky aesthetic. Unusual diamond shapes paired with a thick band make for a distinctive and contemporary look.

Consider Your Wedding Band
No matter what the style of engagement ring, we always consider what wedding band will complement your ring. Choosing a wedding band to go alongside your chunky engagement takes some consideration. Think about how the two will sit alongside each other. Some chunky rings pair better with a simple or thinner wedding band. Wedding bands can also be made to hug the chunky band, using diamonds, plan gold, weather the gold is polished or patterned are all things that we talk about in our consultations here at Morgan & Co.CARING FOR YOUR CHUNKY ENGAGEMENT RING
Looking after your chunky engagement ring does require a little attention due to its size and prominence, but with regular cleaning, careful handling, and routine check-ups, you can maintain its sparkle and beauty for a lifetime. We recommend by taking the following steps you ensure that your bold chunky statement piece remains as stunning and meaningful as the day you first wore it.
Avoid harsh chemicals —
Remove your rings before cleaning the house with bleach or ammonia, or any harsh chemicals. Avoid wearing it in chlorinated pools, using hand sanitisers as such chemicals can damage or discolour the metal.
Regular Cleaning—
We offer our clients free lifetime ultrasonic cleaning for their beautiful rings. Just drop them off, stay and have a coffee or tea on us while you wait.
Six monthly check up
Chunky rings, especially ones with large or multiple settings are more prone to wear and tear. We offer free ring inspections at any time, however we do recommend six monthly inspections for peace of mind.
Storage when not wearing your ring —
Chunky rings have a double the surface area of their finer counterparts. They can scratch if not stored properly. When you are not wearing your ring, store it in its original box it came in or a soft lined fabric pouch. Never store your ring together with other pieces of jewellery in the same package. The metals rubbing together will damage the jewellery.

5 Things to Consider When Designing a Unique Engagement Ring
Over the past few years our engaged couples are seeking a more unique ensign for their forever ring. The one question that is asked of us is ‘is choosing a unique design a good idea in the long run?
Choosing a unique design might feel like the perfect way to celebrate your love story, however it is to think through the practical and future aspects of such a ring. Over time our ring design preferences can change, styles may not always remain timeless, and factors like matching wedding bands can be problematic, all play a role in your decision.
Morgan & Co can help you strike the perfect balance between individuality and functionality. We recommend that taking time to explore your options is crucial to create the perfect unique ring.

1. Will I Love my Ring in 5 Years time?
The answer is that your preference in design may change over time. Just like fashion does, jewellery fashion will change also. A unique, trendy engagement ring that feels perfect in 2024 might not hold the same appeal in 2044. Will that unique diamond shape, size, design still be amazing, or will it remind you of a trend that seemed like a good idea at the time?
Maybe the answer is to consider choosing an engagement ring that grows with you — something classic with just enough difference to reflect your personality. This doesn’t mean you can’t choose a design with flair, but it’s worth thinking about how you’ll feel about your choice as trends change over the years. The last thing you want is an engagement ring that ends up a trend misstep, unique for its time, but not something you want to be wearing forever.
2. A unique engagement ring does not always equal timeless.
Its alluring to think of having a unique engagement ring, however it is important to distinguish between trendy and timeless. Take Tiffany’s solitaire diamond engagement ring, to this day it remains effortlessly chic and still in demand. On the flip side, a design rooted in a specific era can quickly turn into a “throwback,” whether you like it or not.
The advantage of going with something trendy is that it feels fresh and distinctive in the moment, allowing you to fully embrace your personal style. However, the downside is that trends change, and what’s popular today may not hold the same appeal years down the line. A timeless ring, by contrast, marries modern aesthetics with classic design elements, offering longevity. But the potential drawback is that it might not feel as unique or daring as a bold, trendy piece.
Now it's time to buy your wedding band for your unique engagement ring, this can be problematic.
At Morgan & Co, we strive to create engagement rings that perfectly blend timeless elegance with a unique touch, reflecting your personal style and individuality.

3. Your Wedding Band
You have chosen or designed your perfect unique engagement ring. But now comes the next challenge: finding or designing a wedding band to match. The more distinctive your engagement ring is, the harder it might be to find a wedding band that complements it seamlessly.
If you are drawn to the idea of a matching engagement and wedding ring set, or envision building a ring stack over time, it's worth considering this when choosing your engagement ring. At Morgan & Co we make sure that your wedding band is considered when designing unique engagement rings for our clients. We make sure that our clients understand the impact that different engagement ring band profiles, such as twisted bands, curved bands, chunky bands and flat bands can have on wedding band selection.
4. Design Miscommunication
Our team at Morgan & Co are experts in creating one of a kind engagement rings. It is not as simple as you may think to explain your vision, however we pride ourselves on testing out what our clients imagine and putting that imagination into reality.Collaborating on a custom design requires crystal-clear communication. You are making a significant investment in something that’s not easy to reverse. That’s why it’s crucial that we work closely with our clients to truly understand their vision and guide them through the process. Not all designs on paper are functional, there are so many factors to consider and that is Morgan & Co’s strength, to listen to education to design and to deliver your forever ring.
5. How to Ensure You Choose a Ring that Lasts a Lifetime
When it comes to choosing a ring that will last a lifetime, it’s important to think beyond just the immediate beauty. Booking a consultation with a bespoke jewellery designer, like us at Morgan & Co, is one of the best ways to ensure your ring is both timeless and built to last. Our team will guide you through creating a design that balances modern elegance with enduring quality, so your ring remains a treasured piece not just for you, but for future generations. We also take great care in ensuring that your wedding band is considered during the engagement ring design process, making sure both pieces are perfectly suited to one another for a seamless look. With our expertise, you can have confidence that every detail of your ring is thoughtfully crafted to stand the test of time.

Where did you and your partner meet?
"In Orange NSW, on a university placement."
Tell us a little bit about your proposal.
"Enjoying a long weekend away together in northern NSW, we went for a nice walk along the beach after checking in to our glamping tent. Allison was preoccupied taking a photo of a pattern on the sand, she turned around and I was on my knee."
What was your favourite part of your Morgan & Co experience?
"Engaging with people who want to get to know us and to customise our ring to our needs and preferences."

Stevie's chosen design was a 4 claw radiant diamond set in an east to west setting.
What was your favourite part of your Morgan & Co experience?
"The initial consultation was the best part for us. We both learnt so much from Laura and she made us feel so comfortable. The studio is absolutely gorgeous and I had such a good experience trying all different styles to find the perfect ring for me."
Tell us a little bit about your proposal.
"Mosese proposed at home, he set up the house with candles, lights, rose pedals, balloons and a photo of us and a card for me to read. When I finished reading the card he was behind me down on one knee. It was very intimate and special. We then celebrated with our friends and family over the weekend."

An Interview with Laura, Co-owner of Morgan & Co
Welcome to our latest blog featuring an interview with Laura, one of the co-owners of Morgan & Co, a bespoke jewellery design studio nestled on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. From designing engagement rings that tell a love story to crafting meaningful pieces that hold a lifetime of memories, our journey has been shaped by a deep desire to offer clients something truly special. In this interview, Laura shares her inspiration behind Morgan & Co, what sets their jewellery studio apart from others in the industry, and the dedication Laura brings to every detail, from sourcing diamonds to ensuring the perfect client experience.

Can you tell us about the inspiration behind starting your jewellery design studio and what keeps you motivated?
"The inspiration behind starting Morgan & Co jewellery design studio was born from a deep passion for creating meaningful pieces that tell a story for our clients.
I am passionate about listening to our clients' stories and history and from there designing unique pieces that resonate on an emotional level. I gain so much pleasure seeing a concept come to life from sketch to finished piece, each ring or remodel.
My motivation behind our business really lies in creating lasting symbols of love, commitment, and style. Whether it is an engagement ring, wedding band or a bespoke piece, all fine jewellery fuels my passion."
What sets your jewellery apart from others in the market?
"We understand that creating the perfect engagement ring can be a daunting task and what sets us apart is our Ring Guarantee — if our client designs a ring for their loved one, and for any reason their partner isn’t completely thrilled with the design, we will remake it free of charge using the existing stones. This helps our clients, especially the men, feel confident in their decision, as well as keeping the surprise element to their proposal. We understand that designing an engagement ring is a significant moment, and we want it to be absolutely perfect. No jewellery company I know offers such a unique promise.
Additionally, we offer discreet consultations, in the privacy of our Buderim-based studio. This allows our clients to explore our collection of engagement rings in a comfortable and pressure-free environment. Our goal is to create a supportive and welcoming atmosphere where our clients feel empowered to express their love and commitment through a meaningful and thoughtfully chosen engagement ring."

What factors do you consider when selecting diamonds for your pieces?
"When sourcing diamonds for our clients we consider several key factors to ensure the best brilliance and quality. Brace yourself, you're asking me one of my favourite questions and I have a lot to talk about when it comes to diamond sourcing!!
The first things I look for when choosing the right diamond is the four C's — Cut, Colour, Clarity and Carat. A diamond’s cut affects its brilliance and overall beauty. Sourcing diamonds with a precise, high-quality cut ensures that the stone will reflect light optimally and sparkle brilliantly in any setting. At Morgan & Co, we only source our clients colourless, or near colourless, diamonds. My aim is always to find eye-clean stones, meaning no imperfections are visible to the naked eye. Rather than focus on carat weight, I like to take into consideration the mm’s of the stone. The last thing anyone wants is a stone where the weight is located in the bottom of the stone and not on the surface of the stone.
I only source diamonds that come with certification from reputable gemological institutes, such as the GIA and IGI. These certificates guarantee that the diamond’s quality and characteristics have been independently verified, giving our clients peace of mind.
We are also conscious that our clients prioritise ethically sourced diamonds. We ensure that the diamonds we select are conflict-free. We also work with suppliers who emphasise sustainability and responsible sourcing practices.
The final thing when purchasing a diamond for a client is their budget. No one wants to talk about money, however, understanding your client’s budget and preferences is key to sourcing the right diamond. Knowing the price range our clients are happy to sit within helps me work to maximise value by balancing the 4 Cs, offering recommendations on where it’s worth investing more and where compromises can be made without sacrificing beauty.
I find that by considering these factors, we can ensure that each diamond we source aligns with your client’s vision, while maintaining ethical standards and delivering top-notch diamonds."
What trends do you see in engagement rings and fine jewellery currently?
"Current trends in engagement rings and fine jewellery reflect a mix of timeless elegance and modern individuality, with clients seeking unique, personalised pieces that tell a story. However, we have seen a move away from the finer bands for engagement rings to more of a thicker, or chunky, band. Our girls are venturing away from the traditional solitaire setting to a more off set, Art Deco inspirations and also lots of east to west settings, in bezel settings and claw settings.
We have seen a shift away from the larger diamonds to smaller, or natural diamonds. Bigger is sometimes not always better.
Another trend that has been gaining momentum is choosing coloured stone over diamonds. We have created engagement rings which have featured Australian sapphires, garnets, ruby and emeralds. I love a splash of colour in a forever ring.
There has also been a lot of buzz around salt and pepper diamonds and lately we have had a client choose a black diamond as their centre stone with white diamonds as the accent stones, divine."

What advice would you give to someone looking to purchase an engagement ring?
"Purchasing an engagement ring is a big decision, both emotionally and financially. I find that the subject of ‘how much should I spend?’ is very intimidating for many of our clients. The ‘three month’s salary’ rule is outdated, instead it is important to focus on what makes sense for your financial situation. We can create a beautiful ring within your limits without unnecessary stress.
My next advice I would give is to work with a trusted jewellery designer, like Morgan & Co. We have a lifetime manufacturer guarantee and free ring inspection and cleaning with every ring we design.
We only make custom rings which allows us to add that personal touch, we are masters of bringing our clients' vision to life. We pride ourselves on taking time to understand what our clients' needs and wants are and delivering that dream with precision.
Oh, one of the most important questions we ask, apart from ring size is, what type of wedding band will she like on her wedding day? Many times we have unhappy girls come in with rings from other companies looking for a wedding and that will fit under their engagement ring. In many cases there will be only a few wedding bands that will accommodate a low set ring. At Morgan & Co, all of our engagement rings can accommodate whatever our girl's heart desires."
What challenges have you faced as a female entrepreneur in the jewellery industry?
"To be honest not many. Probably the only challenge was gaining the respect of older men within the jewellery industry. The jewellery business has in the past been predominantly run by men. Usually family businesses passed on from generation to generation. The diamond industry is the same."
Can you share a moment when you felt particularly proud of your business or an accomplishment?
"Recently we were commissioned to make a well known Australian artist a very unique ring for his wife. The design took many weeks to create. Many hours of sketching and re-sketching to get all the design elements that the client wanted into the ring. I was so proud of the end result, so proud of our team who spent many hours refining the design and producing a one of a kind masterpiece."
Can you describe your typical customer and the type of jewellery they are interested in?
"There is no such thing as a typical customer. Our clientele are from all walks of life, with their own history and stories. However, we are predominantly engagement rings, wedding bands, remodels and one of a kind jewellery designers."
How do you define success for yourself and your business?
"Success for myself and the business comes down to one thing, a very happy client. Without fulfilling our clients' needs to the letter we would not have a successful business."
Laura is incredibly proud of the jewellery she creates and the relationships she builds along the way, and she looks forward to continuing to craft meaningful and timeless pieces for many more clients in the years to come. Book your free consultation with Laura.
How Much Should an Engagement Ring Cost in 2024?
As a jewellery designer at Morgan & Co, I often get asked, “How much should I spend on an engagement ring?” It's one of the most common questions, and understandably so — buying an engagement ring is a deeply personal and emotional investment, and the financial aspect can be daunting. In 2024, the answer to this question remains as nuanced as ever, but let me break it down for you.

Forget the "Three Months' Salary Rule"
You’ve probably heard the traditional rule that suggests spending three months’ salary on an engagement ring. While this might have been a guideline in decades past, I believe it’s outdated in today’s world. Everyone's financial situation is different, and it’s important that you find a balance between choosing a meaningful, high-quality ring and staying within your personal budget. At Morgan & Co, we always recommend that you don’t go into debt to buy a ring — there are so many options that can suit your style without stretching your finances too thin. We work within your budget to recommend styles and options that best suit your desired ring and price range, ensuring you get a design you love without exceeding what you're comfortable spending.
Average Engagement Ring Costs in 2024
In 2024, the average cost of an engagement ring can vary widely depending on where you are and what type of diamond or gemstone you choose. On average, many people spend between $5,000 and $10,000 on an engagement ring, but there's no one-size-fits-all number. Some might opt for a simpler, more affordable design in the $2,000 to $3,000 range, while others might choose to invest in a higher carat diamond or intricate custom designs, pushing the cost upwards. At Morgan & Co, our custom designs start from approximately $5,500 and depending on diamond or gemstone size and quality, it goes up from there.
It's also worth mentioning that lab-grown diamonds are increasingly popular and can provide a more affordable option while still offering the same brilliance and durability as mined diamonds.

What Should You Prioritise?
When deciding on how much to spend, it's important to consider what you value most. Is it the carat size of the diamond? The cut? Perhaps you're more interested in a unique design that suits your partner's personal style, or maybe you’d rather focus on ethically sourced materials like lab-grown diamonds.
At Morgan & Co, we work closely with each client to find the right balance. We’ve had clients fall in love with a lower-carat diamond that’s perfectly proportioned, while others might prioritise clarity and cut over size. It’s really about finding what resonates with you and your partner.
Sometimes a client may come in wanting a trilogy engagement ring, for instance, but their budget is around the $6,000 mark. In this case, we might recommend putting the money into one solitaire diamond so you're not spreading your money over three diamonds.

Customisation Without the Premium Price
One of the best things about 2024 is the range of options available to fit any budget. At Morgan & Co, we offer fully customisable engagement rings that allow you to choose from a variety of metals — 14ct, and 18ct yellow, rose, or white gold, as well as platinum. You can also choose between natural and cultured diamonds, both of which offer beauty and quality at different price points. This flexibility ensures that we can create something truly special without going overboard on cost. We don't recommend 9ct gold for engagement rings, however they are a good choice for necklaces, pendants, earring, bracelets and other pieces of jewellery.

Other Factors to Consider
Don’t forget to factor in additional costs like insurance, which we always recommend for peace of mind. There’s also the option of adding custom engraving or selecting a matching wedding band, which can influence the total investment.
It’s important to remember that while the ring is a symbol of your love and commitment, the price tag doesn’t define its value. The thought and care you put into choosing or designing the ring speak far more than the dollar amount spent.
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, the "right" amount to spend on an engagement ring is deeply personal and depends on your financial situation, your partner’s preferences, and what feels comfortable for you. At Morgan & Co, we believe that everyone deserves a beautiful, meaningful ring no matter their budget. With the variety of options available today, from diamonds to metals, and custom designs, we can create something perfect that doesn’t break the bank.
