Should I Propose With a Temporary Ring? Why More Couples Are Choosing a 'Stunt Ring'

4 min read

Planning a proposal is one of the most exciting moments in your life. You want everything to be perfect - the location, the timing, the surprise and, of course, the engagement ring.

But what if you're not completely sure what style of ring she'll love?

If you've found yourself wondering whether you should choose the ring yourself or involve your partner in the design, there's good news - you don't have to choose between the two.

At Morgan & Co, many of some of our clients choose to propose with what we call a stunt ring: a beautifully presented temporary ring that keeps the surprise alive while allowing you to create the forever ring together afterwards.

What Is a Stunt Ring?

A stunt ring is a placeholder engagement ring used for the proposal.

It allows you to have the magical surprise proposal you've always imagined, while giving your partner the opportunity to be involved in designing the engagement ring she'll wear every day for the rest of her life.

Our stunt ring is available for $1,500, and when it's returned, the full amount is credited towards the final custom engagement ring.

Think of it as a bridge between the proposal and the ring of her dreams.

Why More Couples Are Choosing This Option

Engagement rings have become incredibly personal.

Every year, we're seeing more couples wanting rings that reflect their own style rather than simply following trends.

Some love classic solitaires.

Others dream of a vintage-inspired design.

Some prefer yellow gold, while others can't imagine wearing anything other than platinum or white gold.

Even details like diamond shape, band width, setting height and hidden design features can completely change how a ring looks and feels.

A stunt ring removes the pressure of trying to guess.

Instead, you still get the unforgettable surprise proposal, followed by one of the most exciting parts of the engagement - designing the ring together.

She Gets a Ring That Feels Like Her

An engagement ring isn't just another piece of jewellery.

It's something she'll likely wear every single day for decades.

It needs to suit her lifestyle, complement her hand, match her personal style and feel comfortable enough to become part of everyday life.

Some people discover they love a ring they never expected once they try different designs on.

Others realise they prefer a lower setting, a different diamond shape or a slightly wider band.

These are the kinds of details that are almost impossible to know unless you're involved in the design process.

By choosing a stunt ring, you're giving her the opportunity to create something that's uniquely hers.

Already Chosen the Diamond? That's an Option Too.

Some of our clients take a slightly different approach.

They've already spent time selecting the perfect diamond and know exactly which one they want to propose with.

In this case, they'll purchase the diamond first and use a stunt ring for the proposal.

Afterwards, the couple visits our Buderim studio together to design the setting around that diamond.

This means the proposal still includes the diamond, while the setting becomes a shared experience.

It's the perfect balance between planning ahead and designing together.

Designing the Ring Becomes Part of the Engagement Journey

One of our favourite things about offering stunt rings is seeing how much couples enjoy the design process together.

After the proposal, you'll visit our studio where we'll guide you through every decision, including:

  • Choosing the perfect metal colour
  • Selecting the ideal band width
  • Deciding on the setting style
  • Exploring different claw designs
  • Considering setting height and practicality
  • Ensuring the ring suits her lifestyle
  • Viewing CAD designs before production begins

Rather than guessing what she'll love, you get to create something that tells your story together.

For many couples, this becomes one of the highlights of their engagement.

There Isn't One "Right" Way to Propose

Some people love surprising their partner with the finished ring.

Others shop together before the proposal.

Some choose a stunt ring.

Others already own the diamond but design the setting afterwards.

The beauty of a custom engagement ring is that there isn't a one-size-fits-all approach.

The most important thing is creating an experience that feels right for both of you.

The Best of Both Worlds

If you're worried that asking for her opinion will ruin the surprise, a stunt ring offers the best of both worlds.

You still get the unforgettable moment of getting down on one knee.

She still gets the excitement of being completely surprised.

And afterwards, she gets the opportunity to help design the engagement ring she'll treasure for a lifetime.

After all, she's the one who'll be wearing it every day. It should feel like an extension of her style, fit comfortably on her hand, and be something she falls in love with every time she looks at it.

Thinking About Proposing?

If you're planning a proposal and aren't quite sure which engagement ring style to choose, we'd love to help.

At Morgan & Co, our stunt ring option allows you to keep the proposal a complete surprise while ensuring your partner has the final say in designing her forever ring.

Visit our Buderim studio on the Sunshine Coast, and we'll help you create a proposal that's every bit as memorable as the engagement ring that follows.

With Love,
