Engagement Ring Trends vs Timeless Designs
When it comes to choosing an engagement ring, one of the biggest questions couples often ask is:
“Will this style still look beautiful in 20 years?”
At Morgan & Co, we believe there is no “right” or “wrong” answer when it comes to engagement ring design choices. Some people are drawn to classic, timeless designs that will never date, while others fall in love with modern trends that feel exciting, fashion-forward and reflective of who they are right now.
The truth is, your engagement ring should feel like you.

Trends Come and Go, But That Isn’t Always a Bad Thing
Over the years, engagement ring trends have constantly evolved. What was considered timeless decades ago was once a trend itself.
Right now, we are seeing a huge rise in:
-
East-to-west settings
-
Vintage-inspired designs
-
Old mine cut diamonds
-
Yellow gold settings
-
Chunkier bands
-
Unique claw details
Particularly within the world of Sunshine Coast engagement rings, couples are becoming far more confident in choosing rings that feel personal rather than simply traditional.
One of the most requested styles we are seeing is the east-to-west setting, where elongated diamonds such as oval, marquise or emerald cuts are set horizontally across the finger. It feels modern, fashion-forward and slightly unexpected while still remaining elegant.
We are also seeing a major resurgence of vintage-inspired styles and old mine cut diamonds. These diamonds have a softer, romantic feel compared to modern precision cuts and many clients love their individuality and character. No two old mine cut diamonds are exactly the same, which makes them feel incredibly special.

Timeless Doesn’t Have to Mean “Safe”
Classic solitaire engagement rings have stood the test of time for a reason. They are elegant, refined and versatile. A beautifully crafted solitaire in platinum or yellow gold will almost always look sophisticated decades later.
However, timeless should not mean boring.
Sometimes people choose a ring based purely on practicality or fear of “dating” their design, rather than choosing what they genuinely love. We always encourage our clients to think carefully about that.
If you absolutely love a particular trend or design style, that emotional connection matters.
Jewellery is personal. Your ring represents your relationship, your memories and a chapter of your life. It should make you excited every time you look down at your hand.
Quality & Craftsmanship Matter More Than Trends
One thing we always say to our clients is this:
The long-term quality of your engagement ring is far more important than whether the style itself is currently trending.
A well-crafted ring with thoughtful design, strong structure and quality craftsmanship will stand the test of time regardless of whether it is modern or classic.
At Morgan & Co, we place enormous importance on:
-
Gold weight
-
Structural integrity
-
Stone security
-
Wearability
-
Longevity
-
Wedding band fit
-
Craftsmanship quality
Trends may change, but a beautifully made ring will always feel luxurious and wearable.
Unfortunately, many trend-driven rings online are made very lightly or without enough consideration for durability. A ring can be visually beautiful while still not being designed well structurally.
That is why craftsmanship should always come first.

Metal Colours: Trend or Timeless?
Metal colour trends also evolve over time.
Yellow gold has become incredibly popular again in recent years, especially paired with vintage-inspired engagement rings and old mine cut diamonds. It feels warm, romantic and slightly nostalgic.
White gold and platinum, on the other hand, tend to feel more classic and understated.
Rose gold had a huge moment over the last decade and while it may not be as dominant now, many people still absolutely love its softness and femininity.
Again, there is no wrong choice.
Your jewellery should reflect your personal style, skin tone, wardrobe and aesthetic, not simply what is currently trending on social media.
You Can Always Re-Set Your Diamond
One of the biggest misconceptions around engagement rings is that the design is permanent forever.
In reality, diamonds can often be reset into a completely different design later on.
This is something we remind clients of often when they feel torn between choosing something trendy versus something timeless.
If in 10 or 15 years your style changes, your diamond can potentially be redesigned into:
-
A different setting
-
A different metal colour
-
A more classic design
-
A completely modern redesign
The sentimental value remains, while the style can evolve with you.
Sometimes people place so much pressure on choosing the “perfect forever design” that they forget they are allowed to simply enjoy what they love right now.

Live For Now vs Playing It Safe
There is definitely a balance between:
-
choosing something fashion-forward you adore
and
-
considering long-term practicality and wearability.
But often, the most beautiful engagement rings are the ones chosen with emotion rather than fear.
If you love east-to-west settings, vintage details, old mine cut diamonds or bold yellow gold - embrace it.
If you love a timeless solitaire because it feels elegant and enduring - that is equally beautiful.
The best engagement ring is not the trendiest or the most classic.
It is the one that feels like your story.
At Morgan & Co, we guide our clients through this process carefully, helping them create engagement rings that feel personal, meaningful and beautifully crafted to last for generations, whether they lean timeless, modern or somewhere in between.

Do Lab Diamonds Hold Their Value? The Truth
This is one of the most common questions I’m asked — and it’s an important one.
“Do lab-grown diamonds hold their value?”
The honest answer is: it depends on what you believe the value of an engagement ring truly is.
Engagement Rings Are Not Financial Investments
First, it’s important to say this clearly: engagement rings are not financial investments.
They are an investment in love, commitment, and a shared future — not something most people ever intend to sell.
In reality:
-
Very few people want a second-hand engagement ring
-
Emotional and sentimental value far outweighs resale value
-
Rings are chosen for meaning, not liquidity
If resale value is the main concern, jewellery of any kind is rarely the right place to invest money.
Why Lab-Grown Diamonds Don’t Hold Monetary Value
Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, optically, and structurally identical to natural diamonds — but they are manufactured.
Because they can be:
-
Produced in unlimited quantities
-
Created more efficiently as technology improves
-
Made at decreasing costs over time
Their market value continues to decline. This doesn’t make lab-grown diamonds inferior or “less real.” They are still genuine diamonds — but they don’t behave like a finite asset.
In practical terms:
-
Lab-grown diamonds cost significantly less upfront
-
Their resale value is typically lower than the purchase price
-
Prices will likely continue to soften as supply increases
For many clients, this trade-off is completely acceptable — especially when budget, size, or ethical considerations are a priority.
Natural Diamonds and Long-Term Value Retention
Natural diamonds are different.
They are:
-
Finite
-
Formed over billions of years
-
Extracted from the earth in limited supply
Because of this scarcity, natural diamonds tend to retain their value more consistently over time.
While no engagement ring should be purchased with profit in mind, natural diamonds historically:
-
Hold value more steadily
-
Are less impacted by rapid price declines
-
Have a long-established global resale market
For some clients, this sense of permanence and stability matters. For others, it doesn’t — and both perspectives are valid.
At Morgan & Co, We Work With Both — Without Bias
At Morgan & Co, we work with both certified lab-grown and natural diamonds, and we don’t have a preference.
Our role isn’t to tell you what to choose — it’s to help you understand your options.
Every client values different things:
-
Budget
-
Size
-
Ethics
-
Rarity
-
Longevity
-
Emotional meaning
We take the time to learn what’s important to you, then provide clear, honest information so you can make a decision that feels right — not pressured.
Education Comes First
We believe the best decisions are informed ones.
That means:
-
Explaining the differences clearly
-
Being transparent about pricing and value
-
Discussing long-term considerations honestly
-
Never pushing one option over another
Whether you choose lab-grown or natural, your ring is designed and crafted with the same care, quality, and attention to detail.
Emotional Value Will Always Matter Most
Regardless of diamond type, the true value of an engagement ring lies in:
-
The moment it’s given
-
The story it represents
-
The life it becomes part of
Most people will never sell their engagement ring — and if they do, they often realise that resale value is secondary to the memories attached to it.
Choosing What’s Right for You
If:
-
You want maximum size for your budget → lab-grown may be ideal
-
You value rarity and long-term value stability → natural may feel right
Neither choice is better — they’re simply different.
Our job is to guide you through both, answer your questions honestly, and ensure you feel confident in your decision.
The Bottom Line
-
Engagement rings are not financial investments
-
Lab-grown diamonds generally do not hold monetary value long-term
-
Natural diamonds tend to retain value more consistently due to scarcity
-
Emotional value will always outweigh resale value
-
At Morgan & Co, we support both options without bias
Your engagement ring should reflect your values, your priorities, and your story — not trends or assumptions.
That’s the truth.

Why Engagement Ring Prices Vary So Much: What You’re Really Paying For
One of the most common questions I’m asked is: “Why do engagement ring prices vary so much?”
You can walk into one store and see a ring for a few thousand dollars, then visit another and see something that looks similar for significantly more. On the surface, it can feel confusing — even frustrating.
The truth is, engagement rings aren’t priced arbitrarily. The difference almost always comes down to materials, craftsmanship, longevity, and accountability. Here’s what you’re actually paying for.

The Rising Price of Gold (And Why It Matters)
Gold is one of the biggest contributors to the cost of an engagement ring — and it’s something many people don’t realise has changed dramatically.
The price of gold has increased substantially over recent years and continues to fluctuate at historic highs. Jewellery is priced by gold weight, not just appearance. Two rings may look similar from above, but their weight — and therefore cost — can be very different.
At Morgan & Co, our rings are made with the thickness and width required to last your lifetime — and generations beyond. That means:
-
Substantial band thickness
-
Properly supported claws
-
Enough gold to hold and protect your diamond long-term
A thin, low-quality ring will weigh far less — and cost less upfront — but it often comes at a much higher cost later.
Thin Rings Cost Less — Until They Don’t
We see this all the time.
Rings that are too thin or lightweight may look beautiful initially, but over time they are far more likely to:
-
Bend or warp
-
Wear through at the base
-
Lose claws
-
Drop diamonds
Repairs like re-tipping claws, rebuilding bands, or replacing lost stones add up quickly. In many cases, clients end up spending more over time than if the ring had been made properly from the beginning.
Jewellery is “cheap” for a reason. And in jewellery, you truly get what you pay for.

You’re Paying for a Lifetime Warranty — and People Who Stand Behind It
When you choose Morgan & Co, you’re not just buying a ring. You’re investing in ongoing care and accountability.
We offer a lifetime warranty, and that warranty is backed by:
-
The same co-owners
-
The same studio
-
The same commitment to your piece
You’re not dealing with a transient sales assistant or a rotating staff member at a chain store. You’re dealing directly with us — the people who designed and crafted your ring — and we’re here for the long haul.
That peace of mind has value.
Australian Made vs Bulk-Made Overseas Settings
Another major difference in price comes down to where and how your ring is made.
At Morgan & Co, our rings are Australian made, crafted with intention and precision. Many lower-priced rings are:
-
Mass-produced overseas
-
Made to generic specifications
-
Designed to be cost-efficient, not long-lasting
Bulk-made settings can keep prices down, but they often compromise on gold weight, structural integrity, and finish.
Custom, Australian-made jewellery costs more because it costs more to make — but the difference is felt in durability, comfort, and longevity.

Time, Care, and Turnaround
We also believe your time matters.
At Morgan & Co, your ring sizing is completed within 10 days, not 6+ weeks like many chain stores. That’s because we:
-
Control our process
-
Work closely with our makers
-
Prioritise quality without unnecessary delays
Speed without compromising craftsmanship is part of the value.
A Luxury Experience — Without Inflated Pricing
Luxury doesn’t have to mean inaccessible.
With Morgan & Co, you receive:
-
A highly personalised experience
-
Thoughtful guidance and education
-
Exceptional craftsmanship
-
A ring designed to last a lifetime
All for a reasonable, transparent price — not inflated by branding or mass retail overheads.

The Bottom Line
Engagement ring prices vary because rings are not created equal.
You’re not just paying for:
-
A diamond
-
A metal
You’re paying for:
-
Gold weight and rising material costs
-
Structural integrity and longevity
-
Skilled craftsmanship
-
Local, Australian production
-
Ongoing care and accountability
-
A lifetime warranty
-
Peace of mind
At Morgan & Co, our goal has never been to be the cheapest — it’s to create rings that stand the test of time, both physically and emotionally.
Because this isn’t just jewellery. It’s something you’ll wear every day, for the rest of your life.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does gold weight matter so much in an engagement ring?
Gold is priced by weight, not just appearance. A ring that’s made thicker and more substantial uses significantly more gold than a thin band — even if they look similar at first glance. That extra gold provides strength, durability, and longevity, which is essential for a ring you’ll wear every day for the rest of your life.
Why are thinner rings cheaper?
Thin rings require less gold and are faster to produce, which lowers the upfront cost. However, they’re far more prone to bending, wearing through, losing claws, and dropping stones. Over time, repair costs can easily exceed the initial savings.
Is a lifetime warranty really necessary?
For something worn daily, absolutely. Engagement rings endure constant wear — knocks, pressure, and gradual metal loss. A lifetime warranty means your ring is cared for long after purchase, by the same people who created it, not a rotating sales team.
Why does Australian-made jewellery cost more?
Australian-made jewellery reflects:
-
Higher labour standards
-
Skilled craftsmanship
-
Better quality control
-
Proper gold weight and construction
Mass-produced overseas settings are designed for volume and cost efficiency, not longevity.
Why do chain stores take so long for resizing?
Most chain stores send rings away to centralised workshops, often offshore. At Morgan & Co, we work closely with our makers, allowing ring sizing to be completed within 10 days, not 6+ weeks.
Can you make a ring to suit my budget?
Yes. At Morgan & Co, we work to your price point while maintaining structural integrity and quality. We’ll guide you on where it makes sense to adjust — and where it doesn’t — so you’re investing wisely, not cutting corners that cost more later.
Why do some rings look similar but cost so much less?
What you don’t see matters most:
-
Gold thickness and weight
-
Internal structure
-
Claw strength
-
Manufacturing quality
Jewellery can look beautiful in a display but fail over time if it’s not made properly.
Is Morgan & Co considered luxury?
Yes — in experience, craftsmanship, and longevity — but without inflated pricing. You receive a highly personalised, transparent process and a ring designed to last generations, at a fair and considered price.

How to Choose the Perfect Engagement Ring in 2026
An engagement ring is one of the most meaningful purchases you’ll make . It symbolises your love, commitment and the journey ahead. It’s not just about sparkle, it’s about selecting something your partner will cherish every day, that reflects their style and personality, and that sits comfortably within your budget.
Here at Morgan & Co Jewellery, Buderim, we want to guide you through the process step by step so you buy confidently, feel great about your decision, and create a moment to remember.

1. Understand the Budget (and Forget the “Two-Months Salary” Rule)
Before you get caught up in shapes and settings, let’s talk about the budget. Many outdated guides still suggest spending two or three months’ salary on an engagement ring but that’s simply a marketing myth.
What to focus on instead:
-
Decide what you can comfortably afford without unnecessary financial pressure.
-
There is no right amount of money to spend. Gold prices are at an all time high, this is something that may affect your budget decision.
-
Consider this purchase in the context of your whole wedding and life ahead what other costs might you want to keep in mind?
-
Remember: value comes from choosing smartly, not just spending more. Quality, craftsmanship, and service matter.
-
Talk openly (if you’re comfortable) with your partner about budget or set expectations together. We see many couples choose the ring together rather than a surprise. This alleviates budget pressures when both parties are on the same page.

Get a Clear Picture of Your Partner’s Style and Lifestyle
The best ring isn’t just the “biggest” or “sparkliest” , it's the one that suits the person who will wear it every day.
-
Consider how your partner’s life are they active, hands on with their work, always outdoors? Rings with high settings can snag or be less practical.
-
Look at their existing jewellery. Do they favour yellow gold, white gold/ platinum, rose gold? Do they tend to wear bold or subtle jewellery?
-
Note her ring finger: her hand size, finger shape, how jewellery sits all of these affect how a ring will look and feel daily.
-
Talk to her best friend or family (if you're keeping it a surprise) to get insight into what they like or dislike.
Bring in images of your partner’s favourite jewellery styles or maybe they have saved Pinterest photos of engagement ring designs they love. Morgan & Co Jewellery, Buderim can help match your partner’s taste and lifestyle to a design that will look amazing and wear well.
Morgan Co will teach you the Basics: The 4 C’s
When you’re buying a ring with a diamond (or major gemstone) centrepiece, you’ll encounter the four fundamental factors: Cut, Colour, Clarity, Carat known as the “4 C’s”.
Here’s our simplified breakdown:
-
Cut: This is arguably the most important factor. A well cut stone will reflect light beautifully and deliver sparkle. A poor cut mucks up brilliance even if the carat looks large.
-
Colour: For diamonds, you’ll see a scale from colourless (D) to light yellow/brown. The less colour, the rarer (and generally more expensive) the stone.
-
Clarity: Inclusions (tiny internal flaws) and blemishes affect how the stone appears. Most are invisible to the naked eye at certain grades. At Morgan Co we make sure our stones are perfect, If we would not wear it we will not sell it.
-
Carat: Simply the weight of the stone. Bigger can be beautiful but size alone doesn’t guarantee brilliance or value. We make sure that the weight of the stone is in the spread, the top of the diamond and not in the base.
Extra considerations:
-
Shape: Round, oval, emerald, pear, etc. The shape affects style and how big the stone looks.
-
Setting & metal: The setting (solitaire, halo, three stone, bezel, etc.) plus the band metal (yellow gold, white gold, platinum, rose gold) all influence the feel, durability and appearance.
-
Lifestyle fit: For example, If your partner uses their hands a lot they might prefer a lower profile setting to avoid snagging.
-
Ethical / alternative options: Lab grown diamonds, recycled metals, vintage or heirloom stones are gaining popularity.

4. Choosing Style That Lasts But Still Feels Right Now
Since you’re buying something to wear every day for years, it’s wise to pick a design that has both timeless appeal and personal resonance.
Timeless vs trendy
-
A classic solitaire in platinum or yellow gold is always in style.
-
Trends can be fun but if they distract from wearability or timelessness, they might date quickly.
Personal touch
If you want something unique, you might consider:
-
Incorporating family stones or heirloom pieces.
-
Designing the ring with a bespoke jeweller, like Morgan Co you can choose metal, stones, setting and dimensions of the band width and depth, claw style that holds the stone.
Practical Wear
-
Think about how the ring will look beside the wedding band (later) — does the style work with a stacking band?
-
Consider comfort: finger size can change with weather/humidity, relevant since we live on the Sunshine Coast and ring width affects the comfort of the band between the fingers
-
Choose a setting that is durable enough for everyday wear.

Sizing, Service & Aftercare
-
Morgan & Co ensures the ring size is correct, you don’t want the moment spoiled by a ring that's too tight or loose when you propose. Morgan & Co offer a free resize if the ring does not fit perfectly.
-
We offer after-care: cleaning, polishing, inspections free of charge and a lifetime warranty on setting and band.
-
Insurance: For a ring you’ll wear daily, protection against loss, theft or damage is wise. Here at Morgan Co we recommend Q report for all jewellery and watch insurance.
-
Certification: For diamonds especially, Morgan & Co only source diamonds from recognised grading reporters; Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and International Genealogical Institute (IGI). This gives assurance of quality.
Shopping Smartly: Locally vs Online
As a Sunshine Coast based jeweller, you have advantages: you can see rings in person, feel their weight, inspect the craftsmanship. This cannot be achieved if you buy online.
Things to consider
-
Compare like for like: same metal, same carat, same clarity.
-
Be cautious of deals that seem too good, transparency of certification, return policies, craftsmanship matter.
-
Ask about resizing, warranty, aftercare. How can after care be achieved if you buy online?
-
Consider ethical sourcing if this matters to you: recycled materials, lab grown stones, or vintage options.
-
What looks great on the net, never is in real life (most often)

Recap: What to Prioritise
Here’s a quick checklist:
-
Budget: known and comfortable.
-
Partner’s style: their metal, shape preference, lifestyle.
-
Ring size: correct or easily adjustable.
-
Stone quality: understand the 4 C’s and pick what matters most to you.
-
Setting & metal: appropriate for daily wear, durable, fits personal taste.
-
Certification & service: grading report, jeweller warranty, aftercare, resizing.
-
Ethical/alternative options (if that’s important to you): lab grown, vintage, recycled.
Conclusion
Choosing an engagement ring should be a joyful process one filled with excitement, love and thoughtfulness. With the right knowledge and with the help from Morgan Co Jewellery the right jeweller, you will end up with a ring that’s not only beautiful but meaningful, comfortable, and made to last for a lifetime.

The Biggest Engagement Ring Mistakes (and How Morgan & Co Can Help You Avoid Them)
When love is in the air and a proposal is on the horizon, the excitement of choosing an engagement ring can quickly turn into overwhelm. In the rush to “get it right,” many men make one massive mistake: they purchase a ring without first consulting a trusted, bespoke jeweller like Morgan & Co.
Below, we break down why skipping an expert consultation so often leads to disappointment — and how you can avoid it.

Prioritising the “4 Cs” Over Personal Style & Lifestyle
Most big‑box jewellers teach you to focus on colour, clarity, carat, and cut. While those metrics matter, they don’t tell the whole story.
-
Design harmony: An oval centre stone with a cathedral setting may be flawless on paper, yet overpower your partner’s delicate fingers.
-
Future maintenance: Certain settings demand more upkeep (think frequent tightening or rhodium plating) than others.
Morgan & Co’s difference
Our consultations begin with your story, daily routines, aesthetic preferences, future plans then translate that into a design that looks spectacular and lives comfortably on your partner’s hand for decades.

You Miss Out on Custom Design Opportunities
Walk in retailers typically offer off the shelf designs or minor tweaks (e.g., swap rose for yellow gold). That limits creativity and often forces you to settle for “close enough.”
Morgan & Co’s difference
From CAD renders and diamond sourcing to micro adjustments that guarantee a wedding band sits flush with the engagement ring, we engineer every detail. You leave with a one of a kind heirloom with personal meaning, not a catalogue compromise.
You Overlook Long‑Term Value & Ethical Sourcing
Chain stores can obscure diamond provenance or promote inflated “sale” pricing. Couples end up paying more for stones of poorer quality, uncertified, or certified by a less reputable company.
Morgan & Co’s difference
We’re transparent about our supply chain, offering both ethically mined and certified lab‑grown diamonds. Plus, our in house diamond sources negotiate directly with cutters, meaning you keep the margin the middlemen usually takes.

Forget About After Sales Care
Repairs, resizing, and cleaning aren’t glamorous topics but they make or break your ring down the road. Retail outlets often outsource these services or charge premium service fees, or worse, send your ring overseas for resizing which takes weeks, sometimes months, to get back.
Morgan & Co’s difference
Every bespoke piece comes with complimentary inspections and in studio cleaning for life, priority repair turnaround, and upgrade options if your style evolves. Resizing takes as little as 10 working days. We’re in it for the long haul, just like your marriage.
Not Knowing to Leave Enough Clearance for the Dream Wedding Band
A gorgeous engagement ring can turn into a design headache if its setting sits too low to accommodate a wedding band underneath.
-
The common scenario: You fall in love with a low set halo or hidden halo style. Months later, when you go to stack the perfect diamond band for your wedding, you discover it won’t sit flush leaving an awkward gap or forcing you to redesign the ring due to rubbing.
-
Future stacking woes: Many couples plan for anniversary or eternity bands down the track. Insufficient clearance on the engagement ring limits all those possibilities.
-
Extra cost & heartache: Resetting, adding a “ring spacer,” or re‑mounting the centre stone after the fact is far pricier than designing for band clearance from the start.
Morgan & Co’s difference
During your consultation, if you plan to have a larger style wedding band in the future, we draw up and CAD the entire bridal stack engagement ring, wedding band, and any planned future bands so you can see how the pieces nest together. We adjust seat height, under gallery curves, and shoulder angles to ensure a seamless fit and comfortable wear, now and 30 years from now. If you aren't sure what you would like as a future wedding band, we would recommend leaving enough room under your engagement ring setting for a standard diamond wedding band.

You Assume a Top Colour & Clarity Grade Guarantees Sparkle
It’s a shockingly common disappointment: you splurge on a D‑colour, VVS2 diamond, yet once it’s set, the stone looks dull. How can a “perfect” diamond lack fire?
-
Cut quality trumps everything. Even a D/VVS2 stone will appear lifeless if its proportions, angles, or polish are off.
-
Light performance isn’t on the grading report. Lab certificates rarely show how efficiently a stone returns light. Two diamonds with identical grades can look worlds apart in person.
-
Undisclosed issues. Milky or “cloudy” growth structures, fluorescence that negatively impacts appearance.
-
Misleading lighting. Retail jewellers often display diamonds under high intensity or niche spectrum lights that mask poor brilliance until you step outside.
Morgan & Co’s difference
We hand select diamonds for optical performance first and reject stones that look “sleepy,” no matter how amazing the certificate reads. We allow our clients to view their stone in natural light and if we source a diamond from overseas that we aren't 100% happy with, we will return it for a better stone free of charge. Our promise to you is that you and your partner leave completely happy with your engagement ring and we will not sell a diamond that our team wouldn't proudly wear ourselves.
The Bottom Line
The biggest mistake isn’t choosing the wrong diamond shape or metal, it's making the decision without expert, personalised guidance. Morgan & Co’s private studio consultations transform an intimidating purchase into a memorable experience.

The Top Two Questions Men Ask Before Buying an Engagement Ring
Question 1: What Size Engagement Ring Should I Get without spoiling the surprise?
One of the most common and slightly nerve wracking questions we hear from soon-to-be proposers is:
“What size ring should I get for my partner?”
If you're planning a surprise proposal, it's completely normal to feel unsure — especially when you want everything to be perfect. But don't stress! At Morgan & Co Jewellery, we’re here to make the process easy, thoughtful, and totally discreet.

How can I find my girlfriend’s ring size without her knowing?
There are a few clever (and subtle) ways to do this:
1. Borrow a Ring She Already Wears
If she wears a ring on her left ring finger, even better — but most wear on the right hand or middle fingers. Sneak one out and bring it to us or trace the inner/outer edge on paper. We can usually estimate the size from that.
2. Ask Her Friends or Family
Her best friend, sister, or mum might already know or be able to find out casually. Just make sure they can be trusted to keep the secret.
3. Compare Hands
Hold hands and casually compare finger size. If your pinky is the same size as her ring finger, we can estimate from yours.
4. Use a Ring Sizer While She Sleeps
There are printable ring sizers online, Morgan & Co offers a free plastic ring sizer you can use by gently trying it while she’s asleep. Tricky, but some brave partners have pulled it off!

What’s the average ring size for women?
In Australia, the average women's ring size is around size L to N. If you have no way to guess or check, starting at a size M is often a safe bet.
Here at Morgan & Co Jewellery we have a knack of being able to judge ring size just by looking at a picture of your partner. Not a hundred percent accrue measure but a good starting point.
We always recommend erring slightly larger rather than smaller, it’s easier to size down a ring than to resize it up, especially if there are diamonds on the band.
Plus we want the ring to go on her finger when you get down on your knee and pop the quest. There is nothing more disappointing when the ring will not go on her finger.
Can an engagement ring be resized?
At Morgan & Co, we design our rings with resizing in mind. We understand that when you’re proposing, you don’t always have the exact size, and that’s okay. After the proposal, we can resize the ring to fit perfectly.
A few notes:
-
Rings with full pavé or intricate side details or long engraving inside the band may have resizing limits.
-
We offer a complimentary first resize after you propose.
-
It’s best to wait until after the proposal before doing major resizing. Living on the Sunshine Coast we find that our girls fingers will never measure the same in winter and summer. For this reason we suggest that your partner wears the ring for a period of time to gauge how the ring feels in all temperatures.
-
Resizing does not cause any structural damage to the ring. We use laser to meticulously resize so there are no adverse issues.
Our Advice?
Don’t let the fear of not knowing the size stop you from creating the ring she’ll love forever.
At Morgan & Co, we’ll guide you every step of the way from clever ring size tricks to designing a custom piece that fits your story and your budget. Whether you’re going all out or keeping it classic, we’ll make sure the final fit is just right.

Question 2: What size diamond should I choose for my partner's engagement ring?
When you're choosing an engagement ring, one of the biggest decisions is:
"What size diamond should I get?"
There’s no one size fits all answer, but there is a right size for your partner, their style, and your budget.
Let’s walk you through what actually matters, and how Morgan & Co helps you get it just right.
1. Carat Size vs Diamond Appearance
The size of a diamond is measured in carats but bigger isn't always better.
Carat is just one part of the equation. A well-cut 0.80ct diamond can look brighter and larger than a poorly cut 1.00ct stone. No one wants a stone that has all the diamond weight in the tail of the stone, we want to see all that beautiful diamond on the top, creating a large spread.

2. The Most Popular Diamond Size
In Australia, the most commonly chosen sizes for engagement rings are:
-
0.80ct – 1.00ct: Classic, elegant, and timeless
-
1.00ct – 1.50ct: Striking and luxurious, without being “too much”
-
1.50ct- plus: For those who want maximum wow factor (or want to build a statement ring)
But remember a beautiful 0.80ct in the right setting can look amazing. It’s all about proportion, finger size, and design.
3. What Size Will Your Partner Love?
Here’s what to consider when choosing diamond size for your partner:
Style Preferences:
Do they love bold jewellery? Or are they more understated? If they wear fine, dainty pieces, a 1.30ct might feel overwhelming — whereas a 0.80ct oval or pear could feel perfect.
Finger Size:
Smaller fingers often make diamonds appear larger. A 0.80ct on a size J, or smaller, finger can look very substantial.
Setting Style:
Certain settings like halos or fine bands can make a diamond appear larger without increasing carat weight.
Your Budget:
We work with all budgets and often recommend slightly smaller carat weights with higher cut quality. You’ll get sparkle, elegance, and value all at once.

Lab-Grown Diamonds: Bigger Size, Smaller Price
If size is a priority and your budget is fixed, lab-grown diamonds are an incredible option. Ethically made and chemically identical to mined diamonds, you can often get a 30 to 50% larger stone for the same price.
We’ll show you both lab and natural options so you can decide what feels right.
Still Unsure, well that's what we are here for?
At Morgan & Co Jewellery in Buderim, we take the guesswork out of diamond shopping. We’ll talk you through size, shape, and sparkle and help you find a stone that makes her eyes light up.
Book a private consultation and let’s create a ring she’ll love forever and in the size that’s perfect for her.

Winter Proposal Ideas on the Sunshine Coast
When you picture a romantic proposal, your mind might immediately conjure images of spring blossoms or balmy summer evenings. However, here on the Sunshine Coast, winter offers a unique charm that makes it one of the most underrated and truly magical times of year to pop the question. While we might not have snow-dusted landscapes, our winters bring something equally enchanting: the golden light of late afternoon, crisp, invigorating evenings, and an overall quieter, more intimate energy. It’s a season that invites slowing down, deeper connection, and moments that feel uniquely yours.
If you’re dreaming of asking that life-changing question, consider embracing the serene beauty of a Sunshine Coast winter. At Morgan & Co, we believe the best proposals are those that reflect your beautiful connection, and winter provides the perfect canvas for just that. Here are our favourite local, relaxed, and intentionally unforgettable winter proposal ideas, designed to create a memory you'll cherish forever.

1. A Golden Hour Picnic in the Hinterland: Where Light Meets Love
The cooler winter weather on the Sunshine Coast offers the perfect excuse to layer up in cosy knits and truly slow down, savouring each moment. Imagine packing a gourmet picnic basket filled with your favourite treats, bringing a curated playlist on a portable speaker, and venturing into the breathtaking Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
Iconic spots like Gerrards, Montville Lookout, the tranquil Mapleton Falls, or the panoramic One Tree Hill in Maleny (always remember to check for public access, as this is a private property with limited availability) transform into idyllic, semi-private sanctuaries in winter. With fewer crowds, you’ll find it’s easier to create a moment that feels exclusively yours. The soft, ethereal golden light that bathes the landscape around 4:30 PM AEST (our glorious "golden hour") isn't just beautiful for the soul; it also creates the most incredible, dream-like backdrop for those all-important proposal photos. This natural light truly elevates the magic of the moment.
Pro-Tip: To truly elevate the experience and make it entirely stress-free, consider pre-booking a local picnic stylist. They can handle everything from the blankets and cushions to the delectable food and elegant setup. Alternatively, engaging a local photographer to discreetly capture the moment will ensure you have stunning, professional images of your proposal without having to worry about a thing.

2. Cosy Cabin Weekender: Your Private Engagement Moon Begins
There’s something inherently romantic about a winter weekend escape to a luxury cabin. It’s an effortless kind of romance, inviting connection without trying too hard. Picture this: a crackling fire pit under a canopy of stars, a bottle of fine local wine, breathtaking mountain views, and the blissful absence of phone reception. It’s a chance to truly disconnect from the world and reconnect with each other.
The Sunshine Coast Hinterland is home to some truly enchanting retreats perfect for a memorable proposal. Look into exquisite options such as:
- Scandi at Maleny: Known for its minimalist design and stunning vistas.
- The Bower in Wootha: Offering rustic charm combined with modern comforts.
- Glasshouse Views Cabin: Providing unparalleled views of the iconic Glass House Mountains.
You could choose to propose over a quiet, intimate morning coffee on the deck, as the world awakens around you. Or, perhaps, under a blanket of twinkling stars by the fire pit, sharing a bottle of red wine, letting the quiet magic of the night do its work. The absolute best part of this idea? You’re already on your mini engagement-moon, allowing you to bask in the joy and excitement of your new chapter immediately.

3. Sunrise Proposal on the Sand: A Dawn of New Beginnings
One of the undeniable beauties of Sunshine Coast winters is the gift of stunning, crisp sunrises accompanied by remarkably empty beaches. If you and your partner are early risers (or are willing to be for one incredibly special day), proposing as the sun paints the sky with vibrant hues over the ocean is an unforgettable experience.
Imagine the serene stillness of the coastline as the first rays of light kiss the water, creating a dazzling sparkle that perfectly complements the diamond in your hand. Ideal spots for such a magical moment include:
- The scenic Moffat Beach headland in Caloundra, offering sweeping views.
- Along the pristine walking tracks of Noosa National Park, where secluded coves await.
- The elevated vantage point of Point Arkwright at Coolum, providing a spectacular panoramic sunrise.
To make the moment even more cherished, bring along a thermos of your favourite hot coffee and a selection of freshly baked croissants. Sharing this simple yet profound experience as the world wakes up around you will cement it as a memory neither of you will ever forget – the perfect start to your forever.

4. Private Chef at Home: Intimacy Redefined
Looking for a proposal idea that feels completely unexpected, yet remains deeply intimate and personal? Consider hiring a local private chef to prepare a gourmet meal right in the comfort of your own home or a luxurious Airbnb. This transforms a familiar setting into an extraordinary culinary experience.
Set the scene: light candles to create a warm, inviting glow, and cue your favourite playlist to fill the space with meaningful melodies. Let the evening unfold leisurely, enjoying exquisite food and conversation. And then, as dessert arrives — so does the ring. This option is particularly meaningful if your partner is a homebody, cherishing cosy nights in, or if you've already shared countless special moments within the home you’ve lovingly built together. It adds a layer of shared history and comfort to the profound significance of the proposal.
5. A Winter Wine Tour with a Twist: Savour the Moment
Take a delightful day off together and venture inland for a sophisticated wine-tasting experience amidst the rolling vineyards of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Explore charming local establishments like Flame Hill Vineyard, Dingo Creek Vineyard, or Clouds Vineyard.
Consider booking a private tasting or a leisurely lunch to ensure an intimate and relaxed atmosphere. Let the slow, unhurried pace of the day naturally lead into the proposal moment. Many of these beautiful venues are incredibly accommodating and will even help you coordinate the perfect setup for the proposal — simply reach out to them in advance to discuss your vision. The combination of exquisite wines, stunning scenery, and shared moments of discovery will make the proposal truly unforgettable.

Bonus Ideas for a Sunshine Coast Winter Proposal:
- Your Favourite Café: Propose at your go-to Sunshine Coast café. Imagine: after your usual Saturday morning coffee ritual, but with something a little extra sparkling in your pocket. It’s familiar, comfortable, and utterly personal.
- Sunset Sailing Experience: Book a private or shared sunset sailing experience from Mooloolaba. The winter skies on the Sunshine Coast are often remarkably clear, yielding the most incredible, vibrant sunsets that paint the horizon in fiery hues – a truly breathtaking backdrop.
- Custom Ring Reveal: For couples who choose to design the ring together (a growing trend!), plan a surprise proposal when the custom piece is finally ready. The anticipation of the bespoke ring combined with the surprise of the actual proposal makes for a doubly delightful moment.
A Final Word: It's All About Intention
At Morgan & Co, we've had the immense privilege of designing hundreds of unique engagement rings for local couples right here on the Sunshine Coast. Through every consultation and creation, one profound truth consistently emerges: the most meaningful proposals aren't about the perfect grand gesture or the biggest surprise. Instead, they are deeply rooted in the intention behind the moment and the genuine connection between two people.
Winter on the Sunshine Coast provides a truly unique opportunity to slow down, to truly take your time, and to propose in a way that feels utterly authentic and deeply personal to your relationship. It allows for a quieter, more reflective celebration of your love story.
And if you’re not sure where to even begin with the ring that will mark this incredible milestone? That’s precisely where we come in.

What is the most sought after diamond cut for 2025?
As diamond shape trends come and go in the world of engagement rings on the Sunshine Coast the Oval cut still reigns supreme. Modern yet timeless, elegant yet bold, the oval cut offers the perfect balance between style and symbolism.
If the oval-shaped diamond has captured your heart, here’s why the oval is here to stay in 2025.
Before we discover more about what makes Oval diamonds popular, lets take a look at —
The History of the Oval Engagement Ring : Where It All Began
It's always interesting to know the background of where and how a stone became popular. The oval diamond cut as we know it was created in 1957 by a master diamond cutter named Lazare Kaplan. Building on the classic round brilliant cut, Kaplan designed the oval shape to retain the sparkle and brilliance of a round diamond—while giving it a longer, more unique silhouette.
His innovation wasn’t just about aesthetics. The oval shape cleverly elongated the diamond’s appearance, making it seem larger than its carat weight. It also had a flattering effect on the finger, something brides and designers quickly fell in love with.

Vintage Roots, Modern Appeal
Although the modern oval cut was perfected in the 20th century, elongated diamond styles date back centuries. Antique versions of oval and marquise shapes were favoured in Georgian and Victorian jewellery, often surrounded by ornate settings and handcrafted metalwork.
In the 1980s and 1990s, oval engagement rings had a quiet presence, often seen in family heirlooms or bespoke commissions. But the real resurgence began in the 2010s and has grown steadily ever since thanks to celebrities, custom jewellery makers, and a generation craving classic elegance with a modern twist.
Why the Oval is Loved Today
Fast forward to 2025, and the oval cut is a top choice for modern couples. Here’s why:
Elegant & Elongating: Its stretched shape flatters the hand and draws the eye.
Bigger Look for Less: Ovals appear larger than round diamonds of the same carat.
Endlessly Versatile: From minimalist solitaires to hidden halos and vintage settings, the oval plays beautifully with many styles.
Uniquely You: Slight variations in length-to-width ratio allow for personalised proportions—making each ring subtly unique.

Iconic Oval Engagement Rings
Some of the world’s most admired engagement rings have featured oval diamonds:
Princess Diana / Kate Middleton’s sapphire is an iconic oval (though it’s a blue sapphire, not a diamond!).
Blake Lively wears a stunning blush-toned oval diamond set in rose gold.
Hailey Bieber’s oval solitaire sparked a major trend in minimalist settings.
These rings helped place the oval cut firmly in the spotlight, loved for its understated drama and effortless sophistication.
Why the Oval Cut Diamond is leading in 2025
1. It Looks Bigger Than It Is
The oval cut has a stretched shape, which gives the illusion of a larger stone compared to a round brilliant of the same carat weight. In 2025, our clients can get more visual impact without going up in carat size or price.
2. It's Universally Flattering
The elongated shape of an oval diamond makes fingers appear longer and slimmer—a flattering look for all hand shapes. Whether it's set in a sleek solitaire or surrounded by a hidden halo, the oval delivers a refined, feminine aesthetic that many brides are drawn to.
3. It’s Versatile and Modern
Ovals suit every style—from ultra-modern to vintage-inspired. Clients love pairing them with:
East-west settings (a rising 2025 trend)
Hidden halos or custom baskets
Chunky gold bands for a contemporary twist
At Morgan & Co Jewellery, Sunshine Coast leading bespoke engagement ring jeweller, we've seen oval stones in both lab-grown and natural diamonds flying out the door especially when paired with yellow gold.
4. Celebrities Love It So Do Millennials & Gen Z
From Hailey Bieber’s iconic oval diamond to Kourtney Kardashian’s minimalist setting, the oval cut has become the modern symbol of romance and understated luxury. It hits the sweet spot between timeless tradition and editorial edge and younger buyers are taking note.

Runner up Diamond Cuts for 2025
While the oval cut is leading the charge, here are a few other cuts growing in popularity that Morgan & Co Jewellery have noticed:
Emerald Cut: For lovers of clean lines and vintage glamour
Radiant Cut: Combines the brilliance of round with the shape of emerald
Pear Cut: Unique, elegant, and rising fast for non-traditional brides
Cushion Cut: A romantic favourite with soft, pillow-like edges
Choose What Speaks to You
Trends aside, the best diamond cut is the one that reflects your story and your partner’s personal style. The oval cut may be 2025’s favourite, but we always encourage our clients to choose based on meaning, not just marketing.
At Morgan & Co Jewellery, we specialise in helping you explore all your options from trending to timeless and designing a ring that feels like you.
A Modern Classic at Morgan & Co
At Morgan & Co, we love creating oval engagement rings that blend heritage craftsmanship with contemporary design. Whether you're drawn to clean lines, hidden details, or a custom setting that reflects your story, the oval cut offers a timeless canvas for your forever ring.

Pottery, Proposals, and the Perfect Ring: A Custom Engagement Ring Journey
Sometimes, the most beautiful beginnings blossom in the most unexpected places. For Monique and James, their love story began amidst the creative energy of a pottery class. From shared moments over spinning wheels to a heartfelt proposal during a glazing session, their journey is as unique and handcrafted as the art they create.
Today, we're delighted to share Monique's experience of finding 'the one' and the equally special journey of designing her engagement ring with our team at Morgan & Co, a process that proved even more meaningful than she could have imagined.

Q — How did you and your fiancé meet?
Monique — "I was teaching a pottery class and James came along as one of the students. We started chatting during the session and found we had a lot in common. The conversation just flowed, and we really enjoyed each other’s company."
Q — Tell us a little bit about your proposal.
Monique — "James booked into one of my pottery classes — bringing things full circle to where we first met. Just before the class started, we were glazing some pieces together when he proposed. It was such a thoughtful and meaningful moment, and it couldn’t have been more us."
Q — How did you feel when you saw your ring for the first time?
Monique — "I felt a bit emotional, to be honest. It was so beautiful, but more than that, it really meant something — it was a symbol of our relationship and everything we’ve shared. It felt really special to wear."
Q — Tell us about your ring and the journey of creating it.
Monique — "I wasn’t sure what I wanted at all — I’ve never been much of a jewellery person and had no idea where to start. But the team at Morgan & Co made the whole process really easy. They explained everything clearly and helped me figure out what suited me and what I actually liked. In the end, we went with a marquise diamond on a yellow gold band — something I might never have picked on my own, but I absolutely love it. It feels so personal and really suits me."
Q — How did you and your partner find the experience with Morgan & Co?
Monique — "We had such a great experience with Morgan & Co. Morgan and Laura were friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful. They made what could have been an overwhelming process feel really easy and enjoyable. We felt listened to and supported the whole way through, and the end result was something truly special."

Monique and James's story beautifully illustrates how the journey of creating a custom engagement ring can be just as significant as the sparkling symbol itself. For someone who initially felt unsure about jewellery, Monique's experience with Morgan & Co highlights the importance of guidance, understanding, and a collaborative approach in crafting a piece that truly resonates. Their story, born from a shared passion and culminating in a perfectly personal ring, is a testament to the power of connection – both in love and in creation. We were honoured to be a part of their story and wish them a lifetime of happiness together.
With Love,
Morgan & Laura x
Your Engagement Ring Shouldn’t Feel Trendy — It Should Feel Like You
The excitement of getting engaged is often intertwined with the sparkle of a brand-new ring. It's a symbol of love, a promise of forever, and a piece many envision wearing every single day. But what happens when the dazzling design you once adored starts to feel…off? Perhaps the trendy halo now feels overwhelming, or the once-coveted metal tone no longer aligns with your evolving style. You're not alone, and this feeling doesn't diminish the significance of your commitment. It simply means your personal style journey has taken a new direction, and your engagement ring should reflect that authentic you.

The Pitfalls of Chasing Fleeting Trends in Diamond Engagement Rings
The world of engagement rings is constantly evolving, with new trends emerging season after season. From the enduring popularity of diamond engagement rings with oval cuts to the allure of hidden halos, the sleekness of skinny bands, the ethical considerations of lab-grown stones, and the romantic charm of vintage settings – it's easy to get caught up in what's currently "in."
In the initial excitement, fuelled by social media feeds and glossy magazines, choosing a ring that aligns with the prevailing trends can feel like the perfect decision. Maybe the design looked stunning in carefully curated photos, or perhaps it was the style everyone in your circle was embracing.
But as time passes and your personal style matures, that once-loved ring can start to feel less like a reflection of your true self and more like a relic of a bygone trend. This realisation can be disheartening, especially considering the profound emotional weight an engagement ring carries.

It's Absolutely Okay for Your Style to Evolve (And for Your Ring to Follow)
Your engagement ring, much like your home décor, your personal wardrobe, and your overall aesthetic preferences, should be an extension of who you are. Just as these aspects of your life evolve and shift over time, so too can your taste in jewellery.
Acknowledging that your current diamond engagement ring no longer resonates with you isn't a sign of ingratitude; it's a testament to your personal growth and self-awareness. This significant piece of jewellery sits on your finger every single day, a constant reminder of your love story. It should evoke joy and confidence, not a subtle sense of disconnect.

Reimagining Your Symbol of Love: What Can You Do?
The beauty of jewellery lies in its potential for transformation. If your engagement ring no longer feels like "you," there are several empowering options to consider:
Redesign Your Custom Engagement Ring: Many couples on the Sunshine Coast and beyond are choosing to revisit their original custom engagement ring design years down the line. This could involve resetting your existing diamond into a new setting that better reflects your current style, completely redesigning the band for a more contemporary feel, or even embarking on a custom ring design journey to create an entirely new piece that speaks to who you are today. A skilled custom jeweller can guide you through this exciting process.
Enhance Your Existing Ring: Sometimes, a complete overhaul isn't necessary. The simple act of adding carefully chosen stacking bands or a custom designed wedding band can dramatically alter the overall look and feel of your engagement ring, breathing new life into the original piece without changing its core sentiment.
Refine and Personalise Your Treasure: You don't have to part ways with the ring that marked such a special moment. A consultation with a knowledgeable custom jeweller on the Sunshine Coast can help you explore subtle yet impactful modifications. This could involve adding meaningful engravings, updating the proportions of the setting, or integrating personal details that feel more authentically "you."
