At Morgan & Co Jewellery, every design begins with a story,  a moment, a person, or a sentiment that inspires something truly unique. The Cognac Zircon Floating Necklace is one of those pieces. Designed by Laura, founder of Morgan & Co Jewellery, this necklace holds deep personal meaning created for her daughter-in-law, who also happens to be Morgan & Co’s Head of Social Media and Creative Direction.

It was made as a birthday gift, but it became much more, a celebration of connection, creativity, and craftsmanship that reflects the heart of the Morgan & Co story.

The Stone: Earth’s Warm Glow

At the centre of this bespoke piece lies a Cognac Zircon, chosen for its rich, amber tones and brilliant sparkle. Zircon is one of the oldest gemstones on earth, found in gem rich regions such as Sri Lanka, Cambodia, and Australia’s Northern Territory.

This naturally occurring gem is admired for its fiery brilliance, its high refractive index gives it a diamond like sparkle, while the cognac hue brings warmth, depth, and individuality. It’s a stone that feels both earthy and luxurious, perfectly suited for someone whose creativity and warmth shine through everything she does.

The Setting: Crafted for Light and Longevity

The zircon rests in a beautifully refined boat style basket setting, hand crafted to allow maximum light to flow through the stone. Fine talon claws hold the gem securely in place, each one carefully tapered to protect the stone while enhancing the stone’s visibility.

This delicate balance of strength and elegance ensures that the zircon appears to float effortlessly, suspended on the chain, a hallmark of Morgan & Co’s design philosophy: refined minimalism with timeless structure.

The Chain: Italian Diamond-Cut Perfection

The stone is gracefully suspended from an Italian hand made diamond-cut yellow gold flat trace chain, a deliberate choice by Laura for both beauty and durability.

Unlike traditional trace chains, diamond-cut links are precision cut with facets that catch the light from every angle  giving the chain a subtle shimmer and enhancing the illusion that the stone floats on the neckline. This fine craftsmanship also improves the chain’s strength and flexibility, allowing it to sit beautifully against the skin without twisting or tangling.
