The Band

The band is probably the first element of the ring design that captures the essence of the chunky engagement ring design — the key to a chunky ring is a thick band. The band can be either smooth, brushed or hammered. Almost any of Morgan & Co’s ring profiles can be used in the bold design, some of our favourites are the flat profile, also known as The Cigar Band, the Bellini profile or a traditional half round profile. The thick band highlights the ring as a whole, making the ring look and feel luxurious and rich.

The Setting 

The next element to think about is the setting. A dramatic setting will highlight your diamond selection, usually we recommend a large stone to balance out the chunky band. If you opt for a rounded profile chunky band, such as a high dome or bellini band, an oval or pear cut diamond would work perfectly. If you opt for a square, or flat profile, band, you might opt for a diamond with sharp edges to compliment it, such as an emerald or radiant cut diamond. 

Bezel Set

A bezel setting holds the centre stone in place by a gold collar that wraps around the entire stone. The bezel setting creates a smooth protective edge around any diamond or precious gem stone. The bezel setting can be either partial, covering only a part of the stone or full, encircling the entire stone.

Looking after your chunky engagement ring does require a little attention due to its size and prominence, but with regular cleaning, careful handling, and routine check-ups, you can maintain its sparkle and beauty for a lifetime. We recommend by taking the following steps you ensure that your bold chunky statement piece remains as stunning and meaningful as the day you first wore it.

Avoid harsh chemicals —
Remove your rings before cleaning the house with bleach or ammonia, or any harsh chemicals. Avoid wearing it in chlorinated pools, using hand sanitisers as such chemicals can damage or discolour the metal.

Regular Cleaning—
We offer our clients free lifetime ultrasonic cleaning for their beautiful rings. Just drop them off, stay and have a coffee or tea on us while you wait.
Six monthly check up

Chunky rings, especially ones with large or multiple settings are more prone to wear and tear. We offer free ring inspections at any time, however we do recommend six monthly inspections for peace of mind.

Storage when not wearing your ring —
Chunky rings have a double the surface area of their finer counterparts. They can scratch if not stored properly. When you are not wearing your ring, store it in its original box it came in or a soft lined fabric pouch. Never store your ring together with other pieces of jewellery in the same package. The metals rubbing together will damage the jewellery.
